Probably the most profound discovery of my childhood, beside the fact that you can make smores in the microwave, was that you could string together letters of the alphabet to make words. Then, you could take those words and manipulate them to form sentences, and those sentences could lead to magical places where unicorns were real, where the hero always win, and where love blooms eternal. I've had an ongoing love affair with the written word ever since.
