 Author has written 8 stories for Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts/バカとテストと召喚獣 , Fullmetal Alchemist, Pokémon, Hetalia - Axis Powers, Card Captor Sakura, Persona Series, RWBY, and Soul Eater. Introduction Writing fanfics and my own stories is good for me because it helps me practice my hand writing skills back when I was still a freshman in high school. I showed some to a dear friend of mine and it was Pokémon Special. I've written at least six of them so far, some are good while others are slightly bad, which I planned to correct them in the future. I decided to retire writing that fanfic so I can check other mangas and animes.
I write any kind of stories IF these things I've seen, from cartoons to anime, from books to mangas, that proved that it is satisfying and inspiring to write these stories. I specialize on thought provoking "what-ifs", AUs, spin-offs and expansion-types stories. And like most writers, I can easily have a condition called Writer's block, so be prepared for a long time of waiting. I am a self-styled critic. I am not the type of person who writes one-liners or puts up encouragement in their reviews. Rather, I'm very critical of other people's work. I will point out the mistakes when I post it on the Review section. Note that I only critique the story itself, not the author. To do so, I focused on the summary of the story first, followed by character characterization, the setting and the overall review to assist me in critiquing ones work. If the person who disagrees with my review without any reason or justification, then they are blind by their own ignorance. If they give up their writing just because one doesn't like the story and has made a critical review in it, sad to say that person deserves it and it's not my problem. As the saying goes, critiques are not always bright and encouraging; it's a way for them to compliment the writer, regardless. Admittedly, I do have moments where I make mistakes in my own stories or reviews. Thus, I make it a point of looking back my previous works and making sure I rectify my future writings then so I won't repeat it. Nothing is impossible. There are endless possibilities in this world. Be reasonable though. Everyone has a choice, whenever it's good or bad. Every decision you make has dire consequences. If you're doing nothing, you'll be better off being dead than being alive. Never underestimate one's abilities. If you're lost in inspiration, go outside and see the world around you. It's a good idea. There is no such thing as good or bad luck. It all depends on your actions you make. Eat healthy food and a good night's rest is a good idea to freshen your ideas and inspiration. Eating junk food and working all night is not a good idea. Life is hard in reality but overcoming its pain and hardships will only make you determined to do greatness. Words are like living things, they tend to intentionally (or unintentionally) praise or hurt the person. Lighten up! Do the forgive-and-forget act. Ignoring the ones that hurt a person either counts as forgivable or unforgivable in the eyes of an observer Everyone in this world has a purpose in life, no matter how insignificant their lives are. Life is worth living for and everyone has a purpose, no matter how insignificant it is Creating something so important to a few or the world is to establish a legacy that can be remember in their hearts or history itself. Fatalism is one of the diseases Humanity has suffered. Do not fall into misery; there will be a glimmer of hope amidst in the darkness of despair. Don't delve into the past, look forward into the future. A story with 1000, nonsensical reviews is worse than a story less than 10, highly critical ones. The favs, on the other hand, is a different story altogether.Principles of The Old Man Be a gentleman in an important event Never lose your temper in times of simplicity. Only when in times trouble and seriousness Be expressive with your words Deduce someone if the person is at first wrong or suspicious If you accept your decision, there is no turning back Sit in the ground and relax. Let your emotions drift like the wind Never argue a misunderstood person or you'll only worsen him. Comfort the person just by talking to him Look down to those who wrong you. Look up to those who inspire you Accept differences, regardless Always rely on allies when facing difficult situations when necessary Don't make first impressions when meeting someone for the first time. Learn first, assume later. Do not complain over trivial things. Complaining won't help solve anything in an instant. Do not get involve when there is trouble. Never make promises that are not meant to be. You are free to do whatever you want in what you believe in, just don't create too much trouble. Keep an open mind at best. Respect is to be earned, regardless of the cost. Information is everything.Love advice of The Old Man (There are many love advises in the internet but try to create your own advice. It could be better than mine) Know the person first before making a move. Learn his/her background, hobbies, dislikes, etc. Look at the person and tell yourself if you are truly compatible with that person. Ask yourself: is he/she beautiful/handsome? Is the person really understanding Once you get to know the person, check if "the bonds of love*" is stronger just to make sure(*"bonds of love" is just a metaphorical saying of mine. It means how strong their compatibilities are. If the bonds are stronger, it means there's a most likely chance that you'll get to have a relationship with that person. If not, it means just friends or associative-type relationship. Think of it as the Social Link System in the Persona series) It's alright to know the person as long as you don't stalk him/her or risked getting yourself threatened, used as a tool, or worse, viewed as a low life with no chance of being redeemable. Avoid jealousy among the suitors When you want to confess your love, use simple and small words to express your feelings to that person. If yes, be happy. If not, don't sink into the sea of depression Learn to accept rejection Be friendly to your crush but do not be too friendly to him/her too much or he/she thinks that you're weird Try talking with a topic that interests him/her Be brave and don't be a coward Avoid misunderstandings If your crush has someone he/she likes and not you, just accept it. If not, get their attention Warning! Never be a two timer or having more than one relationship, unless you plan to have a haremThe Old Man's Unofficial Rules of writing a Fanfiction Story Think of a good story to write, especially something you really like Know the basics of writing a story. This includes the plot, characters and setting Learn the essentials of grammar and composition. It is a must for every writer to know them and be competent about it. Researching the original story is key of writing a successful a fanfic. Determine the genre. Writing original characters are alright. However, never make them a Mary Sue (or Gary Stu), lest having a character with little to no relevance or quality in a story. Balance is key. Pick one POV only. Unless you're a skilled writer, multiple POVs drowns the immersion of the story.This confuses the reader as to who are the characters they're focusing. When writing the story, have someone edit it to see if you have any grammatical mistakes or it the paper looks boring to read. If you don't feel like letting others doing it, you can edit yourself; all you need is a careful eye to do so. Always be very imaginative in writing your stories. It may be a challenge and the process can be a bit tedious, especially if it involves some action scenes that must be worth describing, your readers will definitely enjoy it. Or suffer the Naruto Syndrome (see below) Be careful of writing info junk. According to a fellow writer named El Naples whom my associate George Winston had heard in FictionPress last 2012, info junk is describe as "when a writer uses several paragraphs to tell readers a large amount of information in one blow rather then weaving it into the story." Show but don't tell. Don't excessively put abstract words (ex. happy, sad). Do be descriptive. Don't give an introduction of a character on the first chapter. Do be subtle in describing them Be very concise with your writing. Come up with a catchy synopsis so that readers of the site can read it but never put up personal messages or tags in the synopsis. That would dilute value of interest when readers encounter your story. Readers care about the synopsis of the story, not some shoddy piece ofThe Old Man's Unofficial Rules of Reviewing a Story (Sort of) Read the story first before criticizing its content. Make your own summary of the story. Note the important aspects such as the plot, setting, characterization, dialogue, POVs, grammar & text and how consistent they are Find the positive and negative sides of the story. Expose them as much as possible, regardless of the author's feelings whether they like it or not. Be objective when writing down your impressions. Be critical. Be systematic when writing your critique. Know your own grammar. Do not allow yourself to bring out you personal references or biases. Relevant experiences are optional but not recommended. Give credit where credit's due. Praise the story if you think the story is well-written. One-liner appraisals (i.e good job or I like this story) are exempted. Never use the Review section to request chapters from the author. A simple PM from them is enough.Thoughts of the Old Man (AKA his rants on this site) Whenever I see someone posts chain mails or something in their profiles, I don't see why the need to post it in the first place. The Internet is such getting a bit unusual by the minute. Young people these days. ...But perhaps I'm not fun at all. Just saying What makes Yaoi and Yuri popular? Is it dramatic or romantic to the story? Fan-service? No apparent reason at all? Such stories related to such genres is beyond me. After reading certain mangas with said genre in the Internet, I started to take interest to it, but for specific reasons like romantic love, friendship or life or death situations. There's a limit to it, however. I refuse to watch or read explicit scenes for my elderly eyes to see Selfies are just a way the new generation calls picturing one self on random occasions. It is both amusing to the user and irritating to the third part member. What annoys me is that they post it in social media. I personally don't care that someone pictures his/herself on random occasions. The only exception to the octet rule are: vacation sites, meeting a famous person and certain objects of interest, like an historical artifact for example Advertisements online is the bane of the Internet; it disrupts everyday life when we open a site we like. One such example are the ads and commercials in Youtube that pops out nowhere. Even a click causes so much problems. However, in the light that these advertisements are beneficial, it can be useful At the end of the twentieth century, followed by the beginning of the twenty-first and beyond, the world has gotten much bigger, lazier, more corrupt and alienated with each other than ever. When I was reading Pokemon stories in the Game section here in Fanfiction.net one time, most of the stories there are filled with Alternate Universes or AUs for short involving some unknown region that is not canon to the games or the manga (the anime is already bad enough. Ash has been ten for twenty years now and does not share the same concept of the two). In my own opinion, most of them, even the summary itself, do not make sense. Watching educational videos in Youtube such as Vsauce, Minutephysics and CPG Grey are very interesting and makes me think about the world around me. Do I have the right to be satisfied with my stories I have written so far? Yes. Do I have the right to scrap some? Yes and a lot for a good reason. I like to write stories that have been egging me in my brain. The process of making the story is fairly simple: the characters and their personality, the setting and the plot. With a cup of coffee or tea, imagination, music and inspiration, I'm all set. The only problem of writing the story is a catchy title and a synopsis. I've noticed I haven't written a single story in nearly a year due to work and writing plots for my incoming stories. Nowadays, I am writing reviews on one of the most interesting and the most repulsive stories in Fanfiction.Net, praising and giving constructive criticisms. Their replies were, more or less, interesting. Some have accepted my criticisms and wished to improved their stories in the future. Others disagreed with me and accused me of insulting their style. Regarding the criticism part, some people couldn't handle it. If you're a writer, expect criticisms. If one person disagrees with my reviews without any justification, I'll have that person give him a crash course of how to write a story. Underneath the mountain of trash buries a rare gem. If you notice the lack of stories I've written for the past few months, I apologize. Lately, I'm studying Literature in order to become competent in writing stories and reviewing works of others.The Old Man's Thoughts and Criticisms on his Stories (in chronological order) In my own opinion, every Fanfic writer should give their thoughts and feedback on their stories. This will be their stepping stone in improving their own stories in the future. Truth be told, when looking back at the previous stories, there's this vibe whenever I reread them. Chances are, it could be: 1.) Cringe worth due to plot holes and 2.) Needs improvement. There was a reason why I stopped writing some stories that were incomplete. 1. Baka and Test: Love, Misery, and Hope Looking back, this is the first story I've written here in Fanfiction.Net. When I've first wrote this story, I've finished watching the two seasons of the anime (especially the second season). Because of the anime, I felt the urge to write a story about not just the lovable idiot and the tsundere but their friends as well. The writing is basic for a beginner at that time; the grammar was simple. There was, however, some errors in the writing such as the line and the overemphasis on describing the environment and the thoughts of the characters. There was no clear focus on who the characters were and there was a tendency that I would suddenly shift from one character to another in one chapter. The dialogues of the characters were a bit out of place because of the words I used was different than the anime. The most noteworthy part in the story was how fast I published the chapter. With brief proofreading on the final draft, I would immediately publish the chapter while the iron is still hot. There were times I would miss or overlook something such as the aforementioned line in chapter one. Enough reminiscing the past, this is basically a ship fest overall. It was a typical romance story and it heavily focuses on the previously mentioned couple. It makes me think I'm reenacting the plot with a bunch of sock puppets with a raspy voice; cheesy and a bit childish, if I say so myself. The story was descent and sufficient, nonetheless. 2. Soul Eater Brotherhood This story takes place while I was writing alongside with Baka and Test: Love, Misery, and Love. The inspiration of this story came about when I overheard two people talking about Soul Eater and FMA. It got me thinking: why not combined the two and make a crossover? Brilliant, right? Same as Baka and Test, the writing was basic for me at the time since it followed the same patterned previously. Admittedly, there are grammatical errors here and there. The characters, on the other hand, is a different story. Lately, I noticed that Ed has becoming somewhat OP in the story. It makes sense since the guy has tons of experience fighting the most powerful being in FMA and has left the country two years later prior to the events of Soul Eater Brotherhood, as I previously mentioned in the first chapter. This makes him rather knowledgable and nearly handles any situation, in my opinion. The cast of Soul Eater, Al and his Chimera goons still retained their personality though. There are questions still lingering in the story, however. Questions such as:
Overall, the story is again descent. The main tone of the story was purely comedy with a sense of adventure along the way. However, I later realized that I was overwhelmed with the number of characters I added. It was like buying a lot of merchandise and I have no clue what I will do with them later. Might as well make a redux of a story 3. Sweet Love and Bitter Defeat I consider this story a precursor before I joined Fanfiction.Net. It was inspired when Pokemon Platinum was released back in 2011 and I caught two ralts, one female and one male, during my run, later evolving into Gardevoir and Gallade respectively. I love the concept so much that I decided to write a story about them. I wrote the story that is focused on a fairy tale romance take with a sense of adventure. In addition, I experimented on writing action scenes when two characters fight would together. It was challenging as I had to put out a lot imagination into writing it. The characters here have a role to play; Gale is the hero, Red is the heroine, Rio is the partner, Bunny is the best friend and so forth and so on. It makes the story flow somewhat naturally but, at the same time, makes it susceptible to predictability, meaning the reader might know what will happens next. The story, as a whole, is not bad. It focuses primarily on the romance of the two Pokemon and their struggles against evil. The problem, again, is how the story makes it predictable; the reader can already guess what will happen next later in the story. 4. HetaliaxNyotalia: Two Worlds Collide 5.
