Sassticca has been a slave in old Aquila's villa for many years. She thought nothing would bring light and laughter into the place, until the Master's nephew, the crippled centurion Marcus Flavius, arrived. Marcus is a recently-hired actor in Shakespeare's company, The Lord Chamberlain's Men. During that era, women's roles were played by men, and young girls were often played by the apprentice boys.
