I'll finish it eventually. (16/3/2015) Heartless - I'm so sorry I'll finish it sometime (13/3/2016) I Am Not My Father - please don't read this. It's trash. I was fifteen when I wrote it. It's inexcusable trash and I have too much sentimental attachment to delete it but not enough to force myself to edit it. Don't Panic - also trash, but slightly more tolerable trash. Any and all one shots lurking at the bottom - the works shown here are a demonstration and encapsulation of a simpler time when I was literally a child. While I take responsibility for the mistakes therein, I would appreciate not being harassed over them since they are very old stories and I have only kept them up out of misplaced nostalgia and laziness. Book Recommendations: - The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova: about a history of vampires in Europe, as told through three layers, all intricately plotted out and wonderfully executed. - The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: about a travelling circus helmed by two magicians who are occupied with a life-long competition to best each other. Romance ensues. - The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: about the Trojan War and the years leading up to it as told by Patroclus, Achilles' best friend. Deeply tragic and wonderfully written. - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Burrows: an epistolary novel about the island of Guernsey immediately after WWII. Beautifully written and a beautiful story. - Gunpowder and Cinnamon by Eli Brown: about a chef who gets kidnapped by pirates. Amazingly well written. - Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon: I can actually count the number of books that have had plot twists that made me exclaim, outloud, "What the FUCK?!" because this is it. This is the only book. Warning: is deeply fucked up. But fantastic. Also it's sequels, The Angel's Game and Prisoner of Heaven. - The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness: about magic and vampires and history and everything I love. There's another book called "A Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic" which is okay, except for the strong parallels to Pride and Prejudice, but there's a review on the cover of that book that says, "Hermione Granger the Grad School Years" and that is utter horseshit because that review belongs to the All Souls Trilogy, or at least it should. Book one is A Discovery of Witches and it's delightful. - Everything Christopher Moore Has Ever Written by Christopher Moore? Not really a book title, but I particularly recommend Lamb, Fool and it's sequel The Serpent of Venice, Dirty Job, Bloodsucking Fiends, You Suck, Bite Me, and really pretty much everything. That's all. He's one of my favourite authors. - The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman: freak shows at turn of the century Coney Island, photographers, immigrants, mermaids? - The Hourglass Factory by Lucy Ribchester: corsets, sufragettes, and lady journalists in 1912 London involved in a plot to blow up Westminster Palace. |
