I have always written fanfiction in my head (don't we all fill in that missing scene, rewrite those few lines, think about the what-if?) but only recently did I begin to write them down again (since grade school which was a long, long time ago). My inspiration was the short-changed feeling I got from the abrupt end of Merlin which I believe failed to deliver on the basic premise of the series. Recently, I've written a few for HP because while Rowling created a fantastic world and changed - or enlarged - what fantasy can be, the stories are black-and-white children's stories and I wanted to explore some depth, particularly from Death Eater and Slytherin perspectives.

I stick mainly to canon characters in canon-typical situations and try to keep them in-character. While I am not a fan of fairy-tale happily-ever-after endings, I do like to think that Merlin (and Arthur) could have fulfilled destiny given the chance. I also tend to veer toward the legends.

Briefly:

Season 6 - truest to canon, even to nearly the end of S5, including the canon magic reveal. Basically Diamond of the Day full length so that we see a more gradual reset of Merlin and Arthur's relationship and the fulfillment of destiny. Also the first Merlin story I wrote.

Season 4 "His Father's Son" - a caught-in-the-act magic reveal except rather than saving everyone Merlin is caught doing something Arthur would never understand: rescuing a dragon. This puts them immediately at cross-purposes while each of them tries to be true to his own father's legacy while they re-establish their friendship and then work through to the fulfillment of Arthur's (and Merlin's) destiny.

Season 5 - everything I wish we would have seen! Arthur is not an idiot, Merlin gets a little romance, the boys have to work to realize the Golden Age. The end, when it comes, is after Arthur's long and peaceful reign.

Season 3 "No Other Way" - more of S1 and S2 Morgana who hated/loved/feared Uther but thought better of Arthur, who cared about others with magic, who had been Gwen's close friend, who was reckless but not simplistically evil. Furthest from canon of the full-length fics and also heavy Mergana ship.

Post-Season 4 "Destiny's Path" - Smarting from his uncle's betrayal and Morgana's enmity, Arthur reacts badly to Merlin's revelations. Merlin faces the reality that keeping the truth from Arthur too long may have destroyed his destiny to return magic to Camelot. Morgana recovers from her most recent defeat and realizes she has failed to help her kin.

WAMH one-shot - a magic reveal at the Cauldron of Arianrhod.

WTLOR one-shot - tragic and dark. Mergana.

"Choices" - modern AU, not reincarnation, no magic. Romance, corporate/family drama.

"Beginning Again" - Morgana's POV on the end of "His Father's Son" S4 AU. Mergana ship.

"Born of War" (prequel) - the near extinction of dragons and dragonlords and a new beginning.

Doctor Who - Battle at Camlaan - a sequel to Battlefield (7th Doctor) or prequel, depending on your perspective.

Star Wars - Final Tour one-shot.

Harry Potter - Reconciliation - The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters (post-war). Book canon compliant but not black and white.

Harry Potter - The Monster That You See - backstory for Fenrir Greyback. The root of all evil is pain and trauma. We are each of us the hero of our own story. Book canon compliant but varies from the official version of Greyback's encounter with Lyall Lupin.

Harry Potter - Beds Are Burning - canon events from a Slytherin perspective.
