![]() Author has written 46 stories for Supernatural, StarTrek: Deep Space Nine, StarTrek: The Next Generation, X-Men: The Movie, Mass Effect, Covington Cross, Bates Motel, Lost, X-Force, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Deadpool, Captain America, Thor, Children of the Whales/クジラの子らは砂上に歌う, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Here's the status of my stories as of 1st December 2017: Stories regularly updated: • We Were Soldiers — Captain America (TFA/WWII-era) — (updates Sundays) Stories updated at my whim • And Then I Saw Red — Captain America (post-TWS) A heartfelt message to readers of my DS9 fic, Restoration: It's been a while since my last update of this story, and I still haven't fully recovered from the loss of all my chapter notes during a hard-drive crash. I recently went back and re-read what I've written so far, and whilst I honestly appreciate every positive comment and claims that the story is of a comparable quality to some of the novelisations, I frankly am disappointed with some aspects of my own writing, and in particular have come to dislike my OC protagonist, Gin. I truly believe her creation was an error in judgement; I thought it would be fun to explore the restoration of Cardassia through the eyes of a Federation observer, but now I believe it would've been better to show it from the Cardassian POV entirely. Gin's presence feels alien, her morals feel preachy, and many aspects of her personality feel forced. In hindsight, I wish I'd kept her out of the story. I wouldn't go so far as to call her a Mary-Sue, but she's the most Mary-Sueish character I ever have (and ever will, promise!) write. There are aspects of the story I still love, including the relationships between Telor and his father, Merak, and how the Cardassians interact, the politics and the struggles which are external as well as internal—plus, Nilka! Not to mention DS9 crew cameos. However, I don't believe in erasing what I've written or re-writing what I already have. What's done is done. Now I need to figure out how I want to move forward, I need to try to downplay Gin's role in the story (sorry, if you're a fan of her!) and to try to re-evaluate how I want to portray Cardassia's restoration. So, please bear with me while I murder my darling, as the saying goes. I can also be found on Interwebs (theurbanspaceman dot net) and Twitter (@MrUrbanSpaceman) About me: I write fanfiction, original fiction of both novel-length and short form, and (occasionally) poetry (badly). Examples on my website above. I do Things in my spare time, and fit my writing around my hobbies and work. I used to have a review-back policy, but I've now abandoned this due to lack of time. I have little to no interest in reading romance, and don't read stories which butcher a good bromance by turning it into a romance (for example, mShep/Garrus, Dean/Castiel, Steve/Bucky, etc.) I enjoy reading stories which are unique and original, especially if they are centred around supporting characters instead of MCs. |
