You can also find me on AO3, though I prefer to use FFN. Outside of posting garbage fanfiction on the internet, my hobbies include video games, the study of history, swimming (for recreation, I'm definitely not an athlete), memes, and trying to entertain people. A decent amount of people IRL have told me I'm a funny person, and I do have a love for writing comedy crackfics, but I'll leave it up to you to decide whether I'm funny or just plain cancerous. When it comes to fanfiction, I produce much more than I consume. I'm more of a lurker than an active, vocal participant in the fandoms that I write for. Most of the time, I simply dump whatever I've written and then go back to doing something else. I've had a passion for telling stories since I was a young lad, and considering how I have no artistic bone in my body, I resorted to telling my tales through words, not pictures. My favorite author is Harry Turtledove. I was hooked on him the moment I finished How Few Remain. In particular, I love his Southern Victory/Timeline 191 and Hellenic Traders series. Through Darkest Europe is also a good read I'd recommend, but I feel like it heavily oversimplifies Christian and Islamic theology to reverse their relative positions in the modern world. Still, I enjoyed it. Outside of Turtledove, I also enjoy J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Of their works, I've read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia series, The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, and The Pilgrim's Regress. I tried reading A Song of Ice and Fire, but despite the allure of dynastic and political conflict, I simply couldn't find any enjoyment out of it. Is it a well-written series? I think so; I just didn't like it. I unironically love and defend the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Granted, I grew up with it, so rose-tinted glasses are almost certainly strapped tight around my head. But I enjoyed the politics, I enjoyed the worldbuilding. I like how the Old Republic Jedi were so concerned about emotion leading to the dark side that they cut themselves off from it, and, consequentially, they set up their own downfall. Ian McDiarmid really sold me on Chancellor Palpatine. I liked the banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I thought that Maul, Dooku, and Grievous made fun (if not thematically very deep) villains. Despite loving the prequel trilogy (and the originals, of course), I strongly dislike the sequel trilogy. The writing feels subpar (especially with unsubtle yet uninspiring political commentary lazily thrown in), the characters underdeveloped and uninteresting, and the overall project a soulless cash grab. A reasonable person can make the argument that the same is true of the prequel trilogy, but regardless of the validity of that argument, I still feel like the prequels had passion put into them. I felt like Lucas put genuine effort and soul into what he made, even if public perception was generally negative. I mean, I don't even like Rogue One if I'm being perfectly honest. The visuals are pretty, I'll give them that. I have a diverse interest in games. As a pseudo-intellectual armchair historian, it makes sense that I play a lot of Paradox grand strategy games. My favorites are Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV. I enjoy Mount&Blade: Warband, Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, the COD Zombies franchise (I can't be bothered to keep up with the convoluted full story, though), Elite: Dangerous, Pokemon, Fallout: New Vegas, The Elder Scrolls, Saints Row, Far Cry, and Garry's Mod. Of course, I love Doki Doki Literature Club. Feel free to PM me if you have a question or want to chat. You should know, however, that I tend not to respond right away. Don't overthink it and assume I'm mad at you; I just have a bad track record in regards to getting back to people. |
