Many of my stories deal with child abuse, however what we must always remember is that Child abuse and neglect is a crime and can do irreprable harm. Child abuse is vile and suspected abuse should always be reported. Children are the future and it is our responsibility to ensure their safety.

All children have the right to be protected from violence, exploitation and abuse. Yet, millions of children worldwide from all socio-economic backgrounds, across all ages, religions and cultures suffer violence, exploitation and abuse every day and Millions more are at risk. - UNICEF

Definitions of child abuse vary from culture to culture. Unfortunately, cultural rationalizations for harmful behaviour toward children may be accepted, all too readily, as proof that the treatment accorded children is neither abusive nor harmful. For instance, the work contribution of children in the everyday lives of families and in society should be recognized and encouraged as long as it also contributes to the child's own development. In contrast to this, exploitation of children in the labour market may deprive them of their childhood and of educational opportunities and even endanger their present and future health – World Medical Association

To report child abuse, contact your regional Child Protection office as soon as possible. Remember anyone can report suspected child abuse and it is better to report and be wrong then to not and be right.
