"Ah, right," she smiled, her finger wagging at him. "The Chauffeur who ran off with the Earl's daughter." Her pleasant demeanor didn't change at all, her eyes dancing, but Tom couldn't measure her authenticity. As much as he hated it, at least the Dowager gave no scruples about her objections. Martha Levinson left him confused.

What if 'God knows it's enough that I can kiss you' meant more? What if it meant they had given in once before, and had struggled to refrain from doing so again? That both the Lady and her Chauffeur had been fighting temptation?

Bransonfic written in response to Batwings79's 2012 Downton Abbey St. Paddy's Day Challenge. A heart-to-heart talk between Tom and Sybil ends in tears...or at least with him seeking comfort by precisely the wrong means, and in precisely the wrong company. NOW COMPLETE.
