Author has written 6 stories for Harry Potter. Welcome all. Today I will be interviewing myself. Q: Hi Clarity Texas. Thank you for being here today. Tell us a little about yourself. A: Thanks for having me! I am a teacher that has fun writing during the summers. I am married and have two cats and a dog (all named after Harry Potter characters). Last May I had a baby, hence the delay with posting (baby is not named after a Harry Potter character). I also love to draw, paint, play The Sims, and play the flute. I am an introvert that likes hanging around people. And that is the enigma of my personality. Q: What were you like in school? A: I was always good at English. My mother was a journalist so writing and speaking correctly come fairly naturally. My mother is to blame for my book obsession. She used to read chapter books to me before bedtime when I was growing up. I was fairly quiet in school, usually the tallest girl in class. I had different cliques of friends but never considered myself popular. I was the girl reading or doodling during class. I was also in band from 6th grade through college. College...now that's another story. Q: What are you ambitions for your writing career? A: For the time being, I want to write for fun. I love seeing reviews and seeing how many people read my works. I think that is the best thing about this site. Later in life I want to write novels. Young Adult is definitely my favorite genre. Everything is possible and it's quickly changing every day. Q: Which writers inspire you? A: J.K. Rowling is one of my favorites. I write exclusively Harry Potter fan fiction. I feel like I really understand her characters well. I also have enjoyed C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Gaskell, Rick Rioridan, Suzanne Collins, Mary Kay Andrews, Arthur Golden, Veronica Roth, Jane Austen, and Lord Alfred Tennyson. That's just the tip of the iceberg really. But I think they are mostly responsible for my writing style. Q: How much research do you do? A: When I am writing, I usually have nine other tabs open as well. I really hate reading something and seeing something completely inaccurate. It ruins the work for me. I hate to cause anyone else this same problem, so I try to keep everything as accurate as possible. There's hardly a time where I'm not using Harry Potter Wikki and google. Q: Where do your ideas come from? A: Mostly my own personal experiences or things I have seen other people do. Sometimes I will start off on an experience and ask myself, "What if..." and follow that rabbit trail. Q: Do you get writer's block? A: Yes! I usually put my laptop down and do a menial task or chore. By the time I come back to it, I've usually solved my problem. Q: What is your favorite Harry Potter quote? A: "You'd think people had better things to gossip about," said Ginny as she sat on the common room floor, leaning against Harry’s legs and reading the Daily Prophet. "Three Dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a Hippogriff tattooed across your chest." Ron and Hermione both roared with laughter. Harry ignored them. - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince |
