I am an almost lifelong devotee of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. I have a leeetle tendency to be obsessive about fictional characters, who I enjoy most when they have the ability to take on a life of their own. I'm overjoyed when other people develop my favourites without crushing their personalities underfoot, and if they can include literary talent and gripping plotlines - fabulous.

My favourite stories tend to be those that allow Sherlock Holmes to actually do some detecting, rather than those merely exploring aspects of the various characters in isolation - although these can be fun if done well. Flowing dialogue breathes life into any situation. In my naughtier moods, I love a bit of sex and romance, slash or het, (love is love and lust is lust, after all), but I prefer to read a good yarn! And sex and romance involving your favourite characters is only really fun if you can recognise them. My favourite author of all on this site writes bona-fide whodunnits and detective novels, and has not allowed a peep of romance to un-purify her work, and, although part of me wishes she would, I find her restraint and absolute adherence to canon massively impressive.

"I feel I have a couple of novels in me which have been dying to escape for ages, and Sherlock Holmes is asking to be let out first. I'm now captivated by writing - there is no way my first big fat epic Hecate House is not going to get finished - I'm addicted to it, and my plot is all mapped out - but it's very easy to get sidetracked into writing other stories, and the more I write, the more I want to write. I'm rediscovering the imagination I thought was buried under layers of adult stuff, like work, and loving it! All I need now is an audience!"

I have finally finished Hecate House today! I can now draw myself up to my full height and say "I have completed a novel, y'know.")

I'm a not exactly a technophile - I can manage ctrl-alt-dlt well enough, and drive a computer OK, but I'm not sure what's in its engine, and I'm always the last person to discover things like Facebook and downloading digital music. Fan fiction was a bit of a revelation to me a couple of years ago, and I have to admit, I'm not really sure how all the stuff like forums work exactly. I just put my stories on the computer and get really excited when you guys read them - if anyone has any tips on how I can get more out of these sites, I'd be so grateful! Many thanks to those of you who've already suggested sites I'd enjoy.

I'd also be pitifully appreciative of anyone reviewing my stories, and will reply to any questions about them - thanks so much to all of you who already have. Finally, if anyone ever wanted to do me the unthinkable honour of borrowing any of my characters, I'd be speechless with delight, even if you did things with them I wouldn't!
