Story Themes and 'Backstage' Thoughts-I decided to give an insight into some of my little brainchildren. Also, I'm going to be blunt, so, you do not have to read these. Please read the piece before reading the theme on it though, it makes more sense that way. Just Desserts(Frozen) Yes, this basically is my "There, I fixed it!" rant. I personally view Frozen as a beautiful story that borders on creative genius. Yes, the pacing may be off kilter and many people I spoke with, including myself, were unsatisfied with the ending and with Hans' blindsiding betrayal. However, I find the film so beautifully earnest and sincere, and somehow in one two-minute scene where Hans reveals his nature, they tapped into a raw facet of the human condition that subtly wrenches at the core of our views on romantic affection and heartache, no matter which end we're on. Every single person I've talked to about the film, that scene comes up in conversation within the first three minutes. The problem with the film is they never mend the wound that that scene tears open, and many people I've talked to have left the film with a certain amount of anxiety or melancholy, or at least something to say. Basically, from what I've gathered, Hans' heartbreaking claim on Anna being "easy" and that no one will truly love her is refuted with the likes of Kristoff, and her understanding of what love IS is also rectified by the end of the film. But what about Elsa? Hans' claim that implies no one approaches her because they "can't get anywhere" with her is not addressed, and the viable only reason her kingdom has welcomed her back is because she learns how to keep the "monster", aka herself, under control, not necessarily because they actually accept her. Additionally, the audience distrusts Hans at the beginning, but then the rest of the film builds him up as the good guy, from handing out blankets and taking care of the people to going out to look for Anna himself (almost twice!) when he could've just gotten a search party to do it. Not to mention he could've just let the sisters die earlier in the film if he hadn't done anything to begin with. Then just turning around and revealing him as the bad guy? I don't think so. The whole idea left me feeling like there should be more to the movie, as if there was a missing ten minutes somewhere. UPDATE: I just read an article where some of the Disney execs wanted to put some more foreshadowing about Hans' betrayal earlier on in the film, but the story folks refused to budge. They wanted it like this on purpose. Now the question is...why? (http:///disney/frozen-story-head-paul-briggs-talks-about-truth-in-storytelling-92787. html) All in all, writing this little piece made me feel better about the film itself and I wanted to write something that really appreciates both Elsa and Hans as characters without throwing either of them under the bus (and maybe let some goodies for the soul seep in there too). To See Through the True Eyes(Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's) While driving with friends one day, someone I know was stricken heavily with feelings of worthlessness and inferiority in comparison to her friends and others. This was about the time that Bruno and Sherry were introduced in the Japanese version of 5D's. Feeling so much like she imagined Aki would feel, she wouldn't listen to anyone about what was true. That is, until One Man decided to blow her mind himself. Thus, the allegory of it all is placed into fanfiction, and still holds a very personal connection with me. Reality-Tinted Goggles(Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's) This fanfiction was an allegory based on the sheer intensity of One Man's love for someone who feels like they're not worth it. Inspired by the song "How He Loves" by John Mark McMillan. Sound of a Wounded Ego(DN Angel) It was only after I finished writing this that I read back over it while listening to Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Soundtrack two, Disc 2- Personal History. The song puts a mood to it that gives it life I only heard in my head. Wild Roses(Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's) Someone I know was having a hard time feeling special and loved, as if everyone else was worth more than she was. She knew I was writing this fanfiction, and while out on a walk talking about it, the Lord said something very specific to her, which became the key line in the story. "There could be a billion wildflowers, but there's only one rose." Chicken Soup of Nibelheim(Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core) While playing Crisis Core, my heart really went out to Cloud when I understood exactly why he wouldn't face Tifa. Thus, this idea happened while I was smashing monsters and watching Tifa carry Cloud back to Nibelheim. Anywho, I wrote the beginning and had the idea for the end before the "climax quotes" came to me. It wasn't until long after the "climax quotes" came that I got hit with why they came. At the time, there was a lot of oppressive outside influences trying to keep me from accomplishing anything. That's when the Lord shifted those quotes to speak to me and blew me away. Guess that's what I get for accepting what other people thought as my own definition. Status: Chapter Fanfictions and Poll Winners will take top priority in the order of release.
