It was begun over the summer as a "What if" separation concept. Now very AU.

AU. 9 years ago Kate Beckett left New York and her father. Longing to find happiness again she returns to New York, and winds up in bed with author Rick Castle. The two of them get far more than they bargained for. Starting a family with a stranger is a challenge, it's even harder for Kate who is still trying to pick up the pieces of herself after her mother's death.

The baby cries, heartbreaking wails coming through the monitor on the bedside table, the noise-level lights flashing red in the darkness of their bedroom.

Set about two years into the future (hypothetical season 10), apperception is having a full understanding of an event because of the conditions that inspire it. A story roughly prompted by tumblr's one-writer-girl: "Beckett tries to win them back."

She lives between New York and Washington DC, Richard Castle and their three children have remained in New York City. As before, DC brings new and greater challenges. A story of angst. The unanswered question is, can they survive?
