After a messy break up Caroline Forbes decides to take up a job in small town Texas not expecting to cross paths with arrogant cattle ranch owner Niklaus Mikaelson. Although on closer reflection she realises there's much more to him than meets the eye.

Caroline's father is the alpha of a large pack and though she grew up knowing she would always be stuck in Mystic Falls with her pack, she rebelled as much as she could, wanting a normal life, especially the going away to college part.
