Author has written 60 stories for StarTrek: The Original Series, Slayers, Gundam Wing/AC, Saiyuki, and Harry Potter.

So I write stuff. Sometimes, when I can face the net, I post it.

Anyone who likes to be able to give anonymous and hassle-free thumbs up when they feel like it (or wants to be able to read a work all on one page, or wants to look at whatever pictures there are more easily) can find all my fics I can still stand at AO3.

I like the doc manager tool here and ffnet has better visibility, but AO3 has its act together, that's all I'm saying.

Current series info: the truth is what I see it is

Gryffindor isn't what Slytherin sees in it, and the reverse is way more true than that. Lily doesn't know she looks different depending where you're standing, the Black cousins know perfectly well how they come across but can't be arsed to care, and Severus isn't exactly who anyone thinks he is—least of all himself.

chronology

1. Album of the SangReal: this is the Prince. She is no damsel. (complete)
2. Grey in the Dark: it's a chocolate-scented wandshop in the Sherwood, and there's a scarecrow at the door. (complete)
3 & 4 (companion pieces; concurrent):
About the Swot: twenty things Slytherin knows about that rantypants brewery swot with the nose, and one thing Gryffindor never will. (complete—now with readable sentences!)
A Key Called Promise: Slytherin finds itself lumbered with a shouty little troll. It is somewhat at a loss. (fully written, now posting)
5. The Wicket Gate (working title): fifth year, man. Fun times. (fully written, forthcoming)
6. Valley of the Shadow: the war. (in progress, forthcoming)

Subjectiverse DVD Bonus Extras: current chapter: A chapter so sneaky you could put laces in it and call it a trainer.

7(?). Twas Brillig (on the shores of Lethe): OotP. This series began as the backstory for TB; I think it will stay that way...

Art (links usually go to the illustrated chapter pages on A03)

A Key Called Promise

ch 1: I'm not going to have to lead you by the hand all year, am I?
ch 2: O alas! Our lurve was just not meant to be!
— Blackmail and LIES (and bed-head)
ch 3: It's your birthday?
— Evan would have liked to join Reg under the table, but it would be so undignified...
ch 4: Severus pulls a Hermione (but with less class)
ch 5: It's a good thing, honestly.
ch 6: "What," Severus demanded crossly.
ch 7: Comparatively few Quidditch jocks are obsessed with chiaroscuro. (Wilkes is just in it to mess with Snape)
— Evan wouldn't understand Severus's UST-angst if someone explained it to him.
ch 8: "I'm going to win. I suggest you do the same.
— "Blacks and their control issues. Is it trying to hug or strangle me?"
— Why Evan doesn't want Severus playing Quidditch for points (aka: The Kamikaze Bitch)

The Wicket Gate

ch 1: Guess what YOUR MUM did!
— Just easy
— Heartless (unaccountably did not go over well with square, homophobic, working-poor Tobias)
ch 2: Friends! Schoolmates! Drunk people! Lend me a bottle!
ch 3: Spell after spell on cushion after cushion
— Excuse me, I don't wish to be impolite... (probably worksafe out of context?)
ch 4: o/ STOOOORYTIME! :DDDD
ch 5: Hagrid is a nice old bird
— Proto-Professor Snape wants popcorn (and will not intervene till he gets some, bwahahaha)
ch 6: It's possible to be vulnerable to good things (NWS)
— Minerva so did not sign up for this (except she totally did).
ch 7: Severus isn't allowed to name anything ever again.
ch 8: ...And then went back to his book.
— In a sort of tingling daze (shirtlessness)
ch 9: "As a halfbreed, I feel a bond."
— It didn't do to start a cursing war with one's roommates (dammit).
ch 10: OWL post-mortems (in his bony lap)
— "It is completely and utterly your fault." :D
ch 11: Better to have James Potter pissing out, eh? (Proto-Professor Snape DOES NOT APPROVE.)
ch 12: Lone Artist In A Cold Dark Cave Drawing Extinct Mamminals (cue tiny violin)
— Brewer At Work, Savaged By Air Mail
— Some letters
ch 13: Platform 9 3/4
Brand New Key

Valley of the Shadow

ch 65: Toby wants a pint.

Twas Brillig (links as above)
ch 2: Arthur & Spaz
ch 11: the kamikaze bitch (personal favorite)
ch 13: Albus's hoard

ch 16: Ev and Sev
ch 20: Universally Abusive
ch 21: I can haz bellbottoms?!?

Nightfall's guide to getting your concrit taken seriously. I'm not eighty, I just read that way.

FIRST: Reviews, as a feature, were created to be comments on the story, either to guide the author about reader response to the story or to help prospective readers make a decision about whether to read. Nitpicking the notes without even mentioning the story completely misses the point.

And, incidentally, makes me CRAZY, because you are completely ignoring the work of love I have obsessed over and researched to a degree my schoolwork envies and poured hours and sometimes years into in favor of whatever my fevered brain smacked me with all-unplanned in the last two minutes before post after the umpteenth final edit because ritalin plus anxiety equals chatty. IE: it does not make me kindly disposed to you, impressed with your judgment, thoughtfulness, or understanding, or inclined to give weight to anything you say.

OK. Now, re reviews for a STORY:

1. Be polite and respectful if you can't be friendly. I will not reward rudeness by answering it, unless to refer you to this guide so as to help you express your concerns in a way that will get you listened to.

1a. It is in fact rude to criticize or even correct a total stranger in the same casual or sarcastic manner one could appropriately use with a close friend. Yes, even on the internet. Refraining from vulgar abuse is a good first step, but baseline isn't everything.

1b. In marriage and high school, a ratio of five positive strokes to one negative one is needed to preserve the relationship or keep the kid from zoning out in despair (Gottman, 1994). I don't ask that much, but if you have nothing positive or helpful to say, how do I know anything I do could possibly please you?

2. To assume may make an ass of you and me, but if you're doing the assuming, that's all u.

2a. My writing can be involved, but I try to use the words I mean and not use ones I don't. Even if you think something was implied, if I didn't say it, I didn't say it. Check and make sure I'm doing what you think I am before pointing fingers. Especially if you were reading after 11pm! ;) Read like Slytherins, guys! This is a Slytherin story!

(Whichever. They all are. Especially the Saiyuki.)

2b. If you put words in my mouth, you are reacting to your issues, not something I did. Since your reaction therefore has little-to-nothing to do with me, I will not involve myself in it by replying. Deal with yourself yourself, or get support from a therapist or someone who knows you.

(2bi: And seriously, not sarcasm, good luck with that. Being upset feels painful to me, which is why I am not interested in drama, so yes, really, I hope you can resolve whatever was underlying what upset you there. Good luck with working out whatever was going on in your head you just projected onto me. I'm not buying in if I can help it, but I wish you well.)

2c. If you ask for a coke in some parts of the American South you might get a Sprite. If you ask for a lemonade in Australia you might get a coca-cola. If you ask for a pop 'round my way you're just as likely to get a packet of pop rocks as a soda, but you can bank on getting a funny look first. If you say you're going to wash your hands in China, a good friend would ask if you'd brought toilet paper.

So do consider the possibility that a word that strikes you as being ill-used is wrong in your area or subculture and not everywhere, and that sometimes they have connotations besides the obvious or exclusive ones you're thinking of or wish they did. Consider also the difference between raising a concern and laying down a law, whether or not it applies outside your jurisdiction. 'Kay? Wait, don't answer that. Let me rephrase. Got it? Wicked awesome.

In sum: ignorant, misspoke, fundamentally disagrees with you, and disagrees with you on the granular lexical semantics are four different concepts, should be treated differently, and until you know what you're dealing with, see 2.

3. If you have no ffnet account, I will take the fact that you knew I couldn't reply to you without making a public statement into account when deciding whether to either retain your review or make some public response to it.

3a: You may think a dismissive, condescending, or one-downing remark or anon-tag is clever or ironic—and hey, maybe it is. But practically speaking it just weakens any valid point you might have by making me feel like dismissing you back, possibly before I've even heard everything you have to say. As it happens, I have this power! :DDDD

3b. Leaving me a review full of negativity and also your email address is about the most pointless exercise ever. I have better things to do with my time than engage in a conversation that starts that way, or with someone who's picking a fight with me. No, 3 and 3b are not incompatible, they are in lockstep. See 1 and 2bi.

Severus Snape, while fierce, isn't actually all that good at defending himself. But it's just plain suicide, however slow, to go after a child in his care.
