OK, I am not comparing myself to Jane Austen, but writing these Twilight fanfics has been the modern-day equivalent of hiding your fountain-pen chicken scratch under the sofa cushion every time anyone enters the room. I am constantly having to make sure I close documents, clear recent items, and bury them deep in the folders of my laptop, because if my husband ever came across any of this shit he would MOCK me for the rest of our lives. He already thinks I'm way too old to have actually read the Twilight books, which I thought was true as well until last fall (2010!) when (after listening to me complain that it was impossible to have a good romance set in modern times because there were no longer any obstacles to sex) a filmmaker friend of mine recommended I watch the movie and, well, it was a slippery slope from there as we all know. I was gobsmacked by the first movie and the books, I think Stephenie Meyer is some sort of mystic channeler of the female collective unconscious, and I have been awed by the amount of talent and hilarity I've come across on these fanfic boards.
