Author has written 2 stories for Naruto. Alright, be prepared cuz my profile page will be filled with my most CURRENT obsession!! And the winner is...!! EYESHIELD 21!!! (though I would prefer saying 'Eyeshield Nii Ju Ichi!' instead!) Okay, first and foremost, I declare Eyeshield 21 to be the most COMPLETE manga EVEEEERR!! From its never-ending humor to its amazing gameplays! Trust me, not knowing ES21 is like not knowing Slam Dunk! It may sound like I'm bragging but it's just THAT good, okay! It some way, my friends and I have deemed ES21 quite similar to KHR. (Actually its the other way round...) But the weakling-turned-hero thing was discovered like when? Half a century ago? Although the fact that the name of the character, Sena and Tsuna, the signature number, 21 and 27, the psychotic gunmen, Hiruma and Reborn, you know it just can't be ignored so easily!! (ignoring previous statement) My favorite character has to be... HIRUMA in first place, SENA in second place and SHIN in third place!! WHY?? YOICHI HIRUMA (1st) - He is.. The devil in so many ways, that I just can't deny it.. He has a book, not just any book but his Threat Handbook consisiting of lists of blackmails that are meant for (honestly speaking) everyone in the ENTIRE manga!! He is not a physically strong player but his mind works better than a computer and crazier than a mad genius. He is the EPITOME of humor in the series. He is feared for his blackmails and guns. Yes, guns. He carries them around everwhere. Hiruma kicks his team mate's ass when they do a good job and shoots them around the field when they win. Although he may look, sound and act like a devil, Hiruma has a kind heart and a strong built-in trust with his team mates. During the half-end of the manga, Hiruma didn't even need to make his command visible for everyone to understand his next move. His presence alone is enough to lift the spirits of his team albeit placing a curse on the opposing team. There are plenty of hits between him and Mamori but it was never fully stated or confirmed. When he got his right arm broken, I honestly thought it was over... But then he still, even for just a few minutes, he came back and brought the team back together. He may be devilish but this quarterback is the glue that sticks the Deimon Devil Bats together and besides, Sena wouldn't be Eyeshield 21 without him! KOBAYAKAWA SENA (2nd) - He is.. FAST!! And I mean, DAMN FAST! Okay, let's talk about personality. Sena is the typical main character of a shounen manga. The typical weakling-turned-hero type. But what I like about Sena is that he, like everyone else, wants to win, and he actually does something about it and accepts the fact that he's not 'there' yet. He tried giving up but it just doesn't work. And when all seemed lost, (take note that this happens a lot in ES21), that's the time when he defys the odds. But even so, the mangaka is fair and they don't always win. Sena is responsible when the the situation calls for it. The best example would be when he took over the quarterback position which was previously owned by Hiruma but he got his right arm broken by Gaou. During the short time Sena was a quarterback, he somehow 'replaced' Hiruma well enough for me to consider him as Hiruma Junior. Yes, I know that sounds sooooooo wrong! But Hiruma himself admitted in the last chapter of the manga, that Sena was no half-baked opponent. As the main character, it is exceptionally entertaining to watch him mature throughout the series. And Sena would sometimes say some really cool stuff and make himself look really firm but usually it backfires with him denying himself almost immediately... But when he doesn't, that's the time you learn to really love him. Lastly, when it comes to speed, you would only feel the wind and ask yourself, "Did Kobayakawa Sena just pass by?" SEIJURO SHIN (3rd) - He is.. SUPER COOL!! Yes, I'm skipping the fact that Shin is completely clueless (useless) when it comes to ANY type of technology. It even became a pun... Never mind that, Shin is not the cool, quiet typical guy who cares only about himself like Rukawa from Slam Dunk, Kanda from D.Gray-Man, Hibari from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Shin is genuinely quiet and only has mind set on getting stronger and meeting stronger opponents instead of being busy fighting for himself. Shin is honest and even too frank at times... But that makes his character somewhat original especially when he portrays different kinds of emotion. He shows anger, bluntness, happiness and even excitement at one time. His main purpose in the manga is as the absolute rival of Kobayakawa Sena. It took only one match to determind their rivalry and that was enough to keep both of them moving forward. Shin will almost forever be Sena's idol even though he has met countless stronger opponents and vice versa. Shin also seems to be the only one who can tell all of Sena's moves, tactics and even his evolving strength. Not to mention his weird eyesight that recognizes people with their muscles instead of with their faces... Favourite chapter goes to...!!! 304th DOWN - Finale . I mean, who wouldn't like this chapter? It started off with the seemingly-impossible 60 yard kick by Musashi and ended with Sena being thrown into the air by every ace of their previous opponents with the Christmas Bowl trophy in hand. This chapter was full of suspense during the first read and it still has that effect on me... It is also heartwarming because it portrayed everyone's thoughts and dreams. Then when the ball passed the goal post, you can't help but feel the adrenaline as well! It was really touching when everyone from the bleachers jumped down to celebrate the victory. You could see Banba comforting Kurita, Tetsuma high fiving Yukimitsu, half naked Mizumachi jumping the Ha-Ha Brothers, and Riku ruffling Sena's hair. Of course, my favorite chapter has to have humor in it! And that's where the devil comes in. After Sena and Yamato shook hands, you could see Hiruma shooting his bazooka towards the Ha-Ha brothers I think in the background, then he pointed it to where Yamato and Sena was and the next panel showed him releasing a shot at them; specifically Yamato though... The next page showed Yamato not even faltering but his hair was in such a mess, it took me about 5 minutes just to recover from laughing at his hairdo! Then as previously mentioned, the aces tossed Sena in the air with the trophy. Not surprisingly it was Shin who dragged him in for the first toss! l adored this chapter so much that I wouldn't have mind if it just ended here! But the real ending was cool too! Favourite chapter cover goes too..!!! 211th DOWN - Presentation of Anger . The cover shows the Best Eleven and to be honest I fell in love the moment I saw it.. No other cover could match this one! The one reason why I love this cover is because of everyone's facial expression! Sena is smiling cutely in the bottom with Monta's arm around his neck. There's also Hiruma with his crazy gun and he seems to be a tag team with Mizumachi. Agon is annoyed and is karate chopping Hiruma's head! Then we have Kakei with a cute blush on his face! Half of the people in the picture is actually pointing their forefinger upwards to the side! So adorable!! OVERALL REVIEW - Let's see... It took me about 2 and a half days to finish reading 333 chapters. Another 5 days of watching all 146 episodes. A total of about 7 days worth of American football in my head and nothing else. Well, that pretty much sums my obsession towards Eyeshield 21! If you ever have some free time, try looking it up cuz it's worth it! The one thing that kept this manganime in my head for so long would be because of its Hiruma- I MEANT humour! HUMOUR!!! Tee-hee! Look out for next month's obsession!! |
