Author has written 68 stories for Valdemar universe, Crow, CSI, Due South, Good Omens, Torchwood, and Doctor Who. etcetera-cat writes things. Sometimes these things make sense, sometimes they have to be hit with a variety of large objects before they resemble coherent prose. The easiest way to find out just why etcetera-cat is procrastinating instead of posting is to visit her Dreamwidth, her LiveJournal, email her on etceterathecat@, or drop her a PM on this very site. etcetera-cat also archives on Archive of Our Own, her profile is here. etcetera-cat updates (and, in fact, writes, especially in Valdemar) primarily because Jaelle and Cat McDougall tell her to, and also because they do cruel and unusual things like show her pictures that make her crack-addled imagination sit up and stare, then bound off into the wilderness to get Teva stuck in a tree. Or something equally ridiculous. If asked to describe herself using only three words, etcetera-cat would have to pick 'addled', 'colourful' and 'erratic', although she'd like for 'indecisive' to also be shoehorned in there so she can change her mind in five minutes. In Which etcetera-cat Gets All Explain-y About Things Valdemaran: In my head (and on my website), I've always had a time line in place, along which my stories are placed, located, and sometimes just jammed in and hammered on until they fit. I'm subtle like that. At any rate, I figured that I should maybe get around to putting some kind of explanation of the time line up here. For the sake of keeping things brief, this is going to be a bit whistle-stop and not so much with the pretty: Guardian is the earliest story, and takes place just after the Founding. Then we jump ahead to-- Shadow Dreams and Key Signature, which are my two flirts with LHM canon. Bundled into this time period (hello, Karsite Wars, you are convenient for plot) are Courier Run, Furious Angel and the two Battle Lines stories (Cough and Routine). Now there's a sort of handwave-y stretch of time into which-- Carved and Nothing Immortal slot. Next up, we have the reign of King Arden and Queen Lessa, which means-- Grass is Greener and the assorted things that have spawned from it. To date, and in order: Etiquette, Eavesdropping, Herbology, Swamped, Field Trip, A Forest, the 'five things' story The Birds and the Bees (and Some of Their Friends), Ocular, The Life Aquatic and Out to Pasture. Sidling in here, in the reign of King Theran is Sense, and also sneaking around (decidedly out of Valdemar and in the Pelagirs) is (the currently abandoned) Can't Catch Me. Queen Selenay's reign (circa the Arrows and Winds trilogies) is where you'll find (in order) Dancing Winds, Twist, Feathers of Fire, (Heart)Stoned, Roulette, How Did it..? and Come to This?, Standing on the Edge of Nowhere, Time is Running Out and Ice Water. Queen Selenay's reign (circa and post the Storms and Owls trilogies) is the home of Dusty Trails, Natural Selection, Shifting to Silver, Flipside and White as Snow. And then, since the canon time line was indecent enough to stop, I punted into the future. By about one hundred years (as you do). This is where you can find Sound and Fury and Serendipity. Some thirty years after this, you have Why We Don't Try and Dye Our Companions Green and the A Day in the Life stories, in order: Sparkle, Jingle, Slide, A Question of Style and Fish Out of Water, which is set some fifteen years after the rest of the arc and is the direct lead in (and inspiration for) A Hyperbola of Reality. The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed a certain similarity in names (and delightful personality traits) amongst all the century-post-canon stories and this is where I confirm that, yes, you're right: they are all the same characters. I couldn't resist playing with them some more. Also, yes; Dadero pops up pretty much everywhere. He's my personal fourth-Monarch's-Own-Companion-who's-never-named. For reasons primarily to do with me being dizzy (and not yet getting around to some serious editing), Veran--the Grass is Greener Groveborn--should actually be called Dadero. At some point, I'll amend that. Additionally (and slantways) to all this, I also spent time cavorting in the AU universes of Senashenta (I can't help myself; they're so pretty and interesting), which is where Echoes, Forever and No Tomorrow rightly belong. |
