IN SHORT: SOME CALL ME TIM [For best results, imagine the following text being read aloud by Stephen Fry.] Some Call Me Tim (known by many names, but only by said Monty Python reference on this website) is a young lass who considers herself a professional in oddness, lollygagging and general tomfoolery. The way to her heart is no doubt through her stomach, and her attention can be easily attracted using British television or the color purple. Trees are her favorite; she hugs them often. There are many a fandom which she holds dear, the most precious being the Ace Attorney series, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Death Note, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Futurama, and The Hunger Games. Many of her friends and companions believe that she would be happiest if married to a book. Music often inspires her, but none so powerfully as Alternative Rock, Jazz, Classical, and Indie (a list of favorite bands shall be provided upon request). Writing, reading, and romping about with her nerd herd are among her preferred pastimes. She is not at all a sports fan, but fencing is her exception. Irony, puns, and correct grammar are much approved of; use them often. A favorite piece of fanart of the lady in question (which, no matter how hard she wishes, she did not create) can be found in the upper left corner of the webpage you are currently viewing with your very own set of eyeballs. Finally, reviewing her works will earn you her undying affection, and possibly a fruit basket or platter of Internet cookies as a much deserved thank you. Your time spent reading this is much appreciated, and your time spent reading and/or reviewing the stories located at the bottom of the page would be even more so (remember the food and love awaiting you if you do). Thank you, good night, and browse safely. C: A THEORY After being on FanFiction for quite a while now, I've gotten to thinking: what makes the popular stories as popular as they are? And you know what? I think I've figured it out (in part, at least). Here are the features that I believe will make for a popular story. Andgo: - It doesn't always have to be eloquently written. If it's funny, intriguing, or romantic enough (basically if the idea is good enough), readers are gonna like it. - Fics with multiple chapters are always well viewed/reviewed, because it leaves the reader in suspense, so they're more likely to comment on it and subscribe. - People love it when there's an opportunity for suggestions; like with clusters of one-shots. It makes it more likely for a story to receive feedback. NEWS My New Year's Resolution is to set aside a little time at the end of each week to write, because I've found that stocking up all my ideas and trying to write them all over a break or long weekend stresses me out and then nothing fun gets done; I just sit there going "oh God it's gonna suck, it's all gonna suck, why did I ever do this to myself." *buries head in the sand* Anyway! You don't care about that. The more important news is that I (finally) have an account on AO3, where I'll also be posting stories. So if you prefer that interface or you want to be able to read one of my stories right away instead of days after I upload them (cough, darling you're driving me crazy), then you can go there! Link is here, so knock yourselves out. |
