Author has written 155 stories for Batman, Nightwing, DC Superheroes, Robin, Teen Titans, Will of the Empress, Protector of the Small Quartet, Dark is Rising Sequence, Chronicles of Narnia, Birds Of Prey, Circle of Magic, Justice League, Facts of Life, Daredevil, Once Upon a Time, Daredevil, Dungeons and Dragons, Ella Enchanted, Spider-Man, Anne of Green Gables series, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Series Of Unfortunate Events, Animaniacs, Wonder Woman, Peanuts, Secret Garden, Muppet Show, and Jessica Jones. Born Montreal, Canada. Currently living in Toronto. Dreaming in Gotham, Tortall, Emelan, the NYC and San Francisco of the Marvel Comics Universe, and now Storybrooke. With occasional forays into smaller fandoms. Not much else to say. I majored in English Lit, and my musical tastes run to Broadway showtunes and New Country. These influences COULD sneak into my writing, now and then. I've taken courses in editing and am happy to beta for anyone who asks. Please point out any errors in my own material--honestly, sometimes editing your own work feels like performing surgery on your own child. It's best left to others. Folks who used to hang out on the old DC message boards, you may already know me. Over there, I went by "dragonbat". I use that name over on A03. I also call myself estherdragonbat, dragonbat2006, and kinneret on various other lists. Any of you who might have helped me with my continuity research and who I did not acknowledge in an Author Note, Thank-You! Merci! Gracias! Todah! Spaceeba! Danke! Anonymous reviewers: if you have a question you'd like answered, you need to tell me how I can respond. I don't like doing it in author notes, especially if you're asking about an old completed fic. Please, either sign in or give me an email address. (The site won't let you type it out properly, but if you put something like: ReviewerName at gmail dot com, I'll be able to figure it out.) By the way, I'm now working as a freelance editor, in addition to beta-reading here. For anyone looking to publish original fiction (or non-fic) who wants to hire me, please PM and we can discuss. Note: for any work intended for commercial/for-profit publication, a fee will be involved. Fanfic betas are, of course, always free. Currently, I'm news and managing editor for Indyfest Magazine. For anybody turning professional and going the self-published or small press/indy route, if you'd like to be interviewed or promote your work, drop me a PM. As part of my course work in Technical Communication I wrote a "best practices" manual for fanfiction. The manual is currently posted on my Dreamwidth and Livejournal accounts (dragonbat2006 for both) under the tags "fanfiction manual" and "playing in someone else's sandbox." Feel free to check it out, but remember that I'm giving suggestions only, not rules set in stone. Finally, I'm working on an original novel. It's mostly set at a school in Ontario and I'm consciously trying to include a diverse cast of characters. One is Ojibwe from Sault Ste. Marie, ON. I am terrified both of accidentally playing into stereotypes, and of going to the opposite extreme: stating that she's Native, but then writing her as though there is no way in which her culture informs her outlook. If you think that you can help me make her authentic, please PM! (And if you'd like to read what I've got so far, on the understanding that it's only a first draft and will probably change a lot before it ever goes out to a publisher, friend me on Livejournal or Dreamwidth. Then visit my journal and click on the "Hero in my Life" tag. I've got it set up so that only people on my friends list can access it.) |
