Author has written 17 stories for X-Men: The Movie, Naruto, and Assassin's Creed. (This profile contains a mini bio about me, an explanation of the "Portal" series, and some summaries of current works/things I want to write.) - The PORTAL opens - Age: Apparently, I am an adult, now. D= Make it stop. Location: Earth. Possibly Konoha. Or Spira/Zanarkand. Or Mizuho Village of Tethe'alla. Just outside of Mossflower woods. In a world with a reddening moon. At the other side of the Gate. Sitting in an Animus. OOoo... Writing status: (August 2, '11) Currently, I'm working on finishing my Assassin's Creed fics. While the game endings fill me with rage, and the canon pairings are all screwed up, just like the games, those worlds have a lot of room for free play. 8D I finally have a vacation, so I'm gonna finish up what I've started... Ruroni and I are writing down ideas for the 6th Portal fic, so we'll keep you posted about that. As for "Fall Semester" and "Sakura and Ino's Story", don't worry; I haven't forgotten about them! I have both completely plotted out, and I just need to write it all down. I've been trying to work on original stuff, too, so that's been taking up some of my time...check out my DeviantArt account (username also "Esperwen") if you want to see that. But, right now, I have found a new love/muse/place to daydream: Assassin's Creed. So...I'll keep you posted if anything changes. My personal army: Aburame Shino (Naruto) is my main man to protect me. Kratos Aurion and Regal Bryant of 'Tales of Symphonia' (a video game), Auron (of Final Fantasy X), Tsume (of Wolf's Rain), Scar (of Full Metal Alchemist) and Takashi Morinozuka (of Ouran Highschool Host Club) are my sentinels. Kiba and Gaara (Naruto), Soi Fon, Yoroichi (Bleach), Train Heartnet ( Black Cat), Tama-chan and Saya (Bamboo Blade) are my foot soldiers. NOBODY may overcome me, now! Also, being a woman, Ezio (Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood) will probably be willing to rescue me, should I need it. And then there is Altair. (O_O) A stoic, Arab man from Assassin's Creed has stolen my heart. Oh. My. Goodness. If I can't have him on my team, I'll give up. Likes: Random people in sunglasses/hoodies, chocolate, the colour blue, ninja, samurai...And warmth. And my awesome cargo pants of D00M, which are sadly starting to fall apart...and optimistic, rose-tinted stuff. I don't like Mary Sues. OC is ok. Mary Sue is not. I love original characters. I really do. A well-rounded, made up and added character is what I think to be a sign of a good writer; it's hard to make realistic personalities. But if it's something crack induced like, "And then Jane came in and spirited Sasuke away into a world made of cotton candy", as much as I like cotton candy, stories like that do not go over well with me. Honestly, it's just ridiculous. Try to make your character make sense, or at least provide an explanation of how you got there...I know I try. I loathe the poorly beta-ed and un-edited work that gets posted sometimes. Please, if you write, take the time to edit your creation. I understand that the writer may be an excellent storyteller, but if your spelling is below the Grade 2 level, that's just irritating. So please. Edit or get a beta (editor). It really bugs me when people use their low writing experience for pity. I get that it's your first fic. Ok. We've all been there and have all made up plots that don't really develop, or plots that develop too suddenly. But don't use it as an excuse to get mad at flamers, and don't put in your plot summary, "This is only my first/second/fifth fic, so be nice!" People should be nice anyway; if they're not, they got issues. But neither should you have a fit if someone gives you a harsh or stern review. Sometimes reviews sound unkind unintentionally, when what the author really meant was to give you some writing advice for improvement. The same with some flamers; if the flame is more than just, "This story sucks!", then chances are there's some advice that you can take. So read between the angry lines and stop looking for false praise. Even experienced authors write sucky stories; either it's just a blip or phase they're going through, they haven't been editing, or they haven't been paying attention to advice. If anything, take flames as a challenge. I also don't like anonymous reviews. If you're happy with the work, leave your name. If you hate the work and decide to flame, at least be brave about it. Anonymous is a fun word to mess around with (for example: A ninny mouse. Uh...nonna muss? A no-name moose. etc...), but it's irritating when seen on a review. At least give me a face to visualize yelling at me; criticism without a name is just complaining and not constructive. An anonymous review is a comment with no honour behind it. ...sorry, had a samurai moment. Yes, I know it was cheesy. The "Portal" series are Ruroni and I's personal creation. Most of my OC fanfics are part of the Portal series. They are not necessarily crossovers; you do not need to read the Naruto fanfics in order to understand the Assassin's Creed fics. All it means is that some of my co-writer and I's original characters are recurring. The idea of "Portal" is nothing like that one game with the physics and the portals and the cake lies. =P Basically, Portal hinges on the idea that there are an infinite number of possible realities in the universe. Every decision you make alters your reality. Example, today, you went the usual route to school, and nothing interesting happened; in another reality, you made a detour, and got into a freak environmental accident that gave you superpowers. Something that we think is fiction in this world is completely possible in another world. For instance, in this world, when people 'discovered' America, the Natives there befriended them/were stamped out by them. In an alternate reality, the Natives won, and America is a significantly less crowded place. The thing with the characters in Portal, is they can find entry points into the other realities. The portals can be buildings, doorways, paintings, bus rides...our OCs find these portals and gain entry into the world of Naruto, or Bleach, etc. Admittedly, I drew heavily from Narnia and CLAMP's Tsubasa for my concepts. When our characters enter these alternate realities, they 'take over' the life of the version of themselves that existed in that world. For example, one character we have is Phil. In this world, he is an average high school student with no idea what he's doing with his life. In Naruto's reality, his name is Firu, and he is a fairly accomplished ninja, there. When Phil first crossed into the world of ninjas, he melded with Firu's body and mind, taking over that life and assimilating his memories. Now, Firu and Phil are one and the same; the two realities have melded together and can no longer be separated. Phil is still Phil, but now he has two lives to live, and only one body to do it. The 'other Phils' in other realities remain unaffected. Once a life has been assimilated, any knowledge that person had is now your own, but physical capabilities (unless consciously transferred) are restricted to that life's reality. Phil can now speak, read and write fluent Japanese, but he can't do backflips or chakra-based ninja techniques during high school hours. Our most main characters are two girls, Michelle Salanga and Denise Tomas. They were the first in their group of friends to find a portal into another world. Together, they agreed to live their alternate lives cautiously, taking care not to disturb any storylines for that reality. Example: in the world of Naruto, they would not prevent any deaths that were already written out by Masashi Kishimoto. They also would not help relationships between characters improve or deteriorate any faster or slower than what is canon. Portal-users would act mainly as observers, living as secondary characters on the sidelines. Over time, they were joined by more of their friends, and visited more worlds. While portal-users originated in our reality, extended exposure can cause characters from other worlds to become portal-users, as well. Sometimes, the manga characters follow you back home, and portals manifest in their home worlds. In order to return to your home world, you must die. If it was your predestined time to die in that particular reality, you can never return to it (you died!). If the only reason you died was to pass between worlds, re-entering the portal will return you to where you were last alive. If someone saw you die and disappear, time in both worlds will pass equally, until you go back (e.g. two days will pass in both worlds). If you died in private, you will reappear as if nothing had happened, and no time passed (read The Chronicles of Narnia, people). Depending on which world you entered, time in this reality may or may not pass. Some portals have a ratio of one hour in this world being equivalent to one day in that world. Sometimes, our reality freezes. You might spend months in another reality, and find that only a few seconds passed here. It is possible that time in this reality can move faster, too. Finally, some things never change between realities. Every character has a main purpose, or essence about them, which is reflected in all of their lives. Their names are usually similar, or mean the same thing. And relationships between characters tend to recur between universes; e.g. your so-called "brother from another mother" might actually be your brother in another world. Commonalities with main characters: Michelle/Michiko - Healer Denise/Deniizu - Exceptional fighting ability Pauline/Pooriin - Charisma/social ability Kyle/Kiba - Brave warrior, affinity to dogs Isaac/Itachi - Cold warrior, loner. Current Works: (By the way, if I say I want a beta, I would like for you to message me if you're interested.) For 'Assassin's Creed': Portal: ??? = "Alternate realities exist. Most people only know about one of the lives they're living, but my friends and I are different. We've seen our lives in other universes. You might think that it's just some cool video game. But to two of my friends, it was another life." (Assassin's Creed, plotted out, top priority) Portal: ??? = Denise experiences the AC universe for the first time, accidentally bringing Michelle with her in the process. (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, second priority) For 'Naruto': About the Portal series: I have to put the series onto hiatus, because I've come to the point where I'm just writing for the sake of writing, and with complete disregard to quality. I need to work on my other projects (like 'The Ultimate Fairy Tale' and 'Last Three Genin'), now that I finished posting 'Portal: Newcomers'. I also need to give the Portal series more thought, because as one of my reviewers has pointed out, the series is going downhill. So, don't expect me to post a seventh portal until...well, until my other projects are done. But this doesn't mean you say goodbye to Michiko, Deniizu, Korii, Pooriin, Inel or Firu, and I'm hoping I get the chance to mention Monoka, Emi, Ezu, Ruko and Senpuu Tsume some time soon. I have a fic in mind...but I'm going to hold off until I can finish the other fics. So. Just so you guys know. The Ultimate Fairy Tale = All of our favourite kunoichi are in the fairy tale world; let's see how their lives are! Will be parodies to actual fairy tales, though only implied; try to guess what they are; the fairy tales will be mixed up. I'm putting in Michiko and Pooriin, but not Deniizu, because I can't figure out a fairy tale that's fitting for DeniizuXItachi. I'm putting the genre as Fantasy and General, because there will be in the fantasy world with fluffy romance, but also humour, and action, with adventure, and I guess some minor mystery...it's going to cover a lot of genres. At this point, I'm beginning to understand that the story is ridiculously long; because of this, I'm going to chop it up into some nice, bite-sized pieces. And by 'bite-sized pieces', I mean like the size of slices that pizza has. There will be a pseudo fairytale for each kunoichi and her love, the order is first Tenten, then Sakura and Ino (not as a pairing. Their stories are just so closely intertwined that I can't separate them), then AsumaXKurenai, PooriinXKiba and minor KakashiXAnko share a fic, then Hinata gets her story, and then I will finally stop holding back and post a story for Michiko and Temari. The reason Temari seems to get so little screentime (I know it's not called screentime because it's a fanfic. But work with me), is because her fairytale is really simple, and you don't want a fic based on Shikamaru walking around and looking for her, now do you? And the order of the stories is set like this because although they all have a lot of overlap, the endings of their stories occur at different times. Moving on...since the fairytales supposedly all happen at the same time, each warrior princess' story will focus solely on her. I'll try to make it so that you don't have to read them in any particular order (you might not like all my pairings and want to skip a few...), but this also means that I'll have to be really careful not to put in too many spoilers, too obvious foreshadowing, etc. So...keep an eye out for these! (Naruto, top priority) The Ultimate FairyTale: Sakura and Ino's Story = Everyone has fairytale dreams, even a princess and her psychic twin sister. But will they win their prince only after a long, whirlwind adventure? Or is love somewhere very, very close by? AU Not yuri or shoujo-ai! -The Ultimate FairyTale is a paralleled series- (Naruto, hiatus) Konoha Central High - Fall Semester = AU In a world where jutsu are superpowers, three teens transfer to Konoha City, a metropolis where crime runs rampant. They choose to help their new home by using their own powers, but find out there's competition. Yes, I DO dare to do a high school fic! ...eventually. Akatsuki and sensei are teachers/school staff, while the ninja are the students; they still have certain jutsu, only in this universe, they're called superpowers. Essentially, Michiko, Deniizu and Pooriin move into a town with poor law enforcement, and want to help out the town. But that was already the job of Konoha High's special gang, led by Shino, Gaara, and Kiba. And instead of banning together to become an ultimate force, these two teams vy against one another for the most glory. I'm thinking of making this a trilogy! (Naruto, written the same time as "The Ultimate Fairytale", hiatus) Untitled, maybe 'Healing' or 'After Ambush' or 'Love in War' = The Konoha Twelve (plus Team 13 and Co.) are now around eighteen years old, during a time of war. A surprise attack on Konoha has left them all in pain. All my favourite pairings in one convenient fanfic! The genre will be Angst/Romance; let's see if I can pull it off... It's basically a chapter per pairing, about how each couple is dealing with the war. I only end up writing it when I have the right mood, so what could have been a job that took place over a week, is now taking forever to finish (excuse me for not being emo lately...). I'll keep you posted. (Naruto, already plotted out, iffy priority) Last Three Genin = Naruto is still out travelling in the world with Jiraiya; it is the fourth chuunin exam that anyone in the Konoha Dozen has taken, and Tenten and Hinata hope it is their last. Grouped with Michiko, these last three genin can not wait to become intermediate ninja. This is still in the works. Give this some time, because chuunin exams are hard for me to plan, somehow. And I think the way I'm going right now, it's too short. Posted I will keep you. (Naruto, low priority) Portal: Sensei = All of chuunin Team 13 have been caught and returned after going AWOL for 3 months. They won't explain where or why they went, so as punishment, Tsunade assigns them all a 3-man cell to teach! I think this will be better than 'Separate'. (Naruto, planning it out, 3rd priority) For 'Bleach': Portal: ??? = I've got a special request from a friend, and she's been waiting for this for months! So, I'm going to be focusing on this one, too. Uhm...Hitsugaaya-taichou's in it! (??? priority) Other: Stuff That Should be Drawn = One of these days, I'm going to write down and post all the little scenes that I can see in fanart or...what're little fan comic/manga things called? Doujinshi? Get back to me on that. But, yeah. One of these days those scenes will be posted, and I will want someone to draw and them post them on deviantart or something! Why? ...just because some things are cute or funny, but better drawn than read. I might start posting this in my DeviantArt account. Tips for beta-ing and editing your own work: 1) Use Microsoft Word or OpenOffice or something with SpellCheck. A GrammarCheck would be useful too, in some cases. If you can only update chapters with WordPad or something, that's ok; just highlight and copy your chapters from one file, and then paste your chapters into the uploadable file. Then save, and you're good to go! And if you don't have SpellCheck, do the elementary school thing and look up words that you're not sure about in the dictionary. 2) Wait at least a few hours after finishing before reading over your work. How long? Um...two hours? Six? Whatever works best for you; I always have to wait overnight. It doesn't matter if you're in a rush; if you're writing's sloppy, you're going to lose a few important readers anyway if you upload poor work. Trust me, I speak from experience. Waiting a little while before editing helps, because that way, you're not caught up in the writing moment and you're more likely to see what needs to be changed. 3) Print it out! This is my favourite way to edit and it seriously works; when you have a hardcopy of what you wrote, it's easier to look at and see all the problems! And then you can use pencil or pen to write in additional scenes or speech, and you can also see whether or not you're rushing your plot or repeating yourself. The only downside, is that printing requires the expensive commodity we call ink. Why is ink so expensive? And you might end up killing trees, which is bad. One way to work around this is to print multiple pages per sheet of paper, but once you put more than four pages per paper, it gets kind of cramped, and it still requires a lot of ink. Not as much as with conventional printing, but ink is still ink. 4) I probably should have put this first: read. Most likely, you already know that when you read real book, you see proper grammar, proper puntuation, good spelling (usually), typically there would be good plot and interesting formatting of text, etc., etc. So, you would naturally pick up ways to improve your own writing, both in content and form. But of course, we can't forget... 5) Just keep writing. Every author out there says that this is key to improving, and it's true; how can you learn or improve if you don't do something? It's like ninja training, only with ink and graphite, instead of kunai and scrolls. You work with your tools every day, and no matter how bad things seem at first, you have to improve, even if it's just a little. Yeah, I just referred to ninjas right there. Keep writing, and your grammar, spelling and plot naturally improves. |
