11/18/2010 - As many people have pointed out, it's been a while since I updated. I had some real life type issues crop up, true, but the simple act of getting some distance between myself and the content of the last three books has been very helpful with finding my direction again. I know there are a lot of people who loved the Harry Potter series in its entirety, but I think it took a hard right turn into weirdness beginning with Order of the Phoenix and the simple fact is I just didn't enjoy the latter part of the series as much as the earlier books.

It's hard to write fanfic when you start to fall out of love with that you were formerly entranced with. Realizations started as my way of trying to explain some things about the series to myself, so I was very careful to stay true to the story. This became increasingly difficult as time went on, and even though I didn't strictly have to, I had conditioned myself to incorporate story elements, even though the fic was AU and I was free to take it in any direction I liked. I'd read the books and knew what was "supposed" to happen.

This is as close as I've ever come to completing a story. Being so tantalizingly close to the end is the main reason I haven't just posted a quick story summary, or given in to fits of discouragement and pique and deleted my FFN and Yahoo accounts. Realizations has been a nontrivial logic problem for me and even though it isn't perfect, I've striven to keep it at least "reasonable."
