Reality can be confusing. It can tangle you up in knots of “What-You-Must-Do” and “Expectations” and “Day-to-Day-Life.” I’m not against Reality; I’m just saying we all need a way out. And there are brave men and women who take up their pens, dip them in creative ink, and create worlds beyond Reality. Worlds like Harry Potter's (J.K. Rowling), Tortall (Tamora Pierce), and Mortal Instruments (Cassandra Clare) that take us to places that are not Reality. Where our heroes deal with problems that are as real to them as that huge Calc test (that you didn’t study for) is real to you.

Instead of reality, I choose fan fiction.

Hello! I've written a lot of little drabbles over the years, but have only been publishing since August '09. I write my own stuff too, but those are still very much works in progress. I figured I should try my hand and see what people think of my writing style before I try for anything remotely major league.

My favorite genres are fantasy and historical fiction. Combinations of the two are always a win. I'm particular to detail, so it's not often I'm wrong with names or dates or events or places. I don't write explicit smut. Grammar and spelling are very important to me.

I write for (but am not limited to) Harry Potter, Twilight, Mortal Instruments, & Tamora Pierce.

Harry Potter series: This is probably my all-time very favorite book series ever. I am obsessed, probably in an unhealthy way. I love the characters, the plotline, the dialogue, the themes... I grew up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione and when the series ended, it felt like I was losing my best friend. It doesn’t help that I am hopelessly in love with Ron Weasley. I ship Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Ron/Myself, James/Lilly. But I dabble in Draco/Hermione, Harry/Luna, Harry/Hermione.

The Twilight series: Okay, I hate Twilight. All right, maybe not hate-hate. Just mildly passively aggressive resentment. Y'know, the kind where you'll be polite because your mother is watching you and the other person hasn't actually done anything to you personally, so there's no real excuse to slap 'em smartly across the face. I think that, overall, Twilight is a truly creative and unique idea, but I think it got dragged out too long and made a much bigger deal than it should have been. Also, I hate Bella Swan. I think she gives girls another reason to be clingy, boy-obsessed bimbos that stay in abusive relationships simply because the object of their affections said that he loved her. He also said he was leaving, sweetie, and he didn't want you - which is the lie and which is the truth? While it is common that girls can be clumsy (I too am dangerously clumsy), clumsiness is now a cliché girl characteristic - is it now attractive that a girl cannot do anything on her own, but most depend on a boy to walk three feet? On the other hand, I like Jacob Black. Stephenie managed to create some real characters that can be believed, while adding flat, one-dimensional characters that sucked the life from the story (pun completely intended). Characters like Jake, Charlie Swan, Alice and Emmett Cullen, Seth and Leah Clearwater kept the series alive, in spite of the best efforts of Bella and Edward - in my humble opinion. I write because it's fun to try to keep in character and because I love Jake. If Edward would crack some jokes, maybe I'd like him more. I ship Bella/Edward, simply because I feel like they can just go sit in the corner and do their dramatic, traumatic romance thing away from everyone else.

Mortal Instruments Trilogy: I love this series mostly because I think Cassie Clare managed to capture the angsty-love right—because it was served as a side dish, rather than the main course. I love her dialogue especially. I ship Jace/Clary, with a heaping platter of Simon. Maybe it's just my personal preference, but while Jace is hot and suave and sarcastic, I gravitate towards Simon, who is sweet and dorky and funny. I get him.

Tamora Pierce: I kowtow to the second goddess of my fiction universe (J.K. Rowling being the first). They co-reign, I assure you, simply because there's no comparison. Tammy created her own world and did so beautifully and believably, while J.K. interwove Harry's world with the world of her readers seamlessly. But back to Tammy: I didn't really like the Circle of Magic stuff, but I am in love with her Tortallan universe. I read Protector of the Small first, and fell in love with Neal. I wish Kel/Neal could work, but I know they don’t (maybe that’s why I love them?), so I ship Kel/Dom. I also loathe Cleon, which is odd considering my penchant for redheads. For Song of the Lioness, I want to be Alanna. I ship Alanna/George, Jon/Thayet, Buri/Raoul – I loathe Jon and Alanna together. I loathe Jon and Alanna on the same intense level as I love Faithful, who is my favorite Tammy character to write, with his delicious feline snarky-ness. In The Immortals, I ship Daine/Numair (even with the creepy 14-year age difference), while wistfully dream that Daine had had a fling with Evin Larse. With the Trickster series, I think that Aly and Nawat are adorable, but would love to write an Aly/Taybur. In The Provost’s Dog series, I am still rooting for Rosto the Piper. I know Beka's with Farmer, who I liked, but I want Rosto, dammit.

NCIS: My all-time favorite TV show EVER. If you don’t like it, you deserve much more than a Gibbs-smack to the back of the head. You don't even deserve a Gibbs staredown (I'm just kidding, you can like whatever shows you want; I'm just intensely passionate about this show and have gotten my roommate hooked on the USA Network marathons). For couples, I am 100% behind Tony and Ziva (Tiva? Zony?) . I don’t want Abby or McGee to date anyone, but just have little jealous spats over each other (McGab? McAbby? Abgee? Tabby? Tibby? Timby?). Gibbs is Gibbs – he can flirt with anyone he wants, but I know his heart is with Shannon and Jenny.

Glee: So I used to love Glee. Kurt, Quinn, and Sue were my favorites. But when season two came around, I just got fed-up with the cliché and contrived drama, despite the inclusion of the wonderful Darren Criss (I’m a huge fan of Team StarKid). Don’t get me wrong, I think they are all wonderful performers. I’ll listen to their songs, but I’m not really keeping up anymore.

Shakespeare: I have to pay an ode to the Bard. He’s truly a literary genius. He may have not been the originator of the plotlines, but who else could have compiled them together with such language? I am a nerd when it comes to his plays (okay, I'm a nerd in general, but whatever). Hamlet is my favorite, followed by Macbeth and Much Ado about Nothing. As the Reduced Shakespeare Company notes, his trajedies are much funnier than his comedies.

My In-Progress Story Updates:

So... I really haven't updated anything in a while, and have only produced little one-shot ficlets. I am super busy, I am super lazy, I am superly writer's-blocked, and I am super sorry! I've decided that I am going to concentrate on finishing my bigger fics. Once I finish them, I will begin to churn out the remaining chapters. I have chosen an order for which I shall finish my stories in. I don't know how long it will take, but I am determined to finish them.

3. HALFER: My closest-to-being-done fic.

I may yank The Other Weasley off the list, even off of this site. It needs some major doctoring.
