qwerty chapter 1 . 8/13/2016 This is heartbreaking and beautiful. Thank you for writing. |
JustGail chapter 1 . 9/21/2014 I I have no words. |
alwaysmarauders chapter 1 . 6/27/2014 Oh my god, this was such a great concept and you chose a great character to use for it. I loved seeing the snipits of each sin and I thought you wrote Regulus wonderfully. I really loved the greed part, and ugh, the lust part was so great to read. You are a really talented writer. |
Lara1221 chapter 1 . 6/27/2014 Okay, that was amazing, you are amazing, and I love you and yeah. Regulus is just an altogether awesome character, and I love even his bad parts. I cannot thing of one single thing about this that wasn't perfect. Seriously, it all was. I like how you brought in all our favs- lily, snape, Sirius, but kept the focus on him. Because he is in fact incredible. And so in fact are you. What else to say? |
DobbyRocksSocks chapter 1 . 6/27/2014 This is really interesting and I enjoyed the sectioning you did through it. It made it flow really well, and stops the reader from being buried. I think Envy was probably my favourite section, but really, I enjoyed them all. Regulus is such an intriguing character to me, and I love the story you gave him. |
The Dreaming Hare chapter 1 . 6/27/2014 This was amazing. Regulus is an intriguing character, and I think that you really did him justice here. I loved that something his mother told him as a child had such an impact on him that it stayed with him his entire life - sometimes it can be the most insignificant thing, but it really shaped the man he became. The 'sin sections' were very well done, and I loved them all. It was a very unconventional way to showcase Regulus' upbringing, but I think that's why it worked so well! The moment when R realized that V underestimated them, and the last line of that section were gold. His end was tragic, but I felt so relieved for him to finally be free as well. |
autumn midnights chapter 1 . 6/26/2014 This is such an unusual, creative way to tell a story - using the seven sins to illustrate these important moments in a character's life. It was so refreshing to read something as original as this, and I also loved the way you inverted the idea of the seven sins - how this was about Regulus's journey to doing something /good/, but you used stereotypically 'evil' things to present this journey. Your characterization of Regulus was also outstanding, and I really like how the seeds of discontent were there even before Voldemort used Kreacher - Regulus's reluctance to kill, his date with Lily, his jealousy over Sirius's freedom. I really like how it's Barty that ends up killing the man for Regulus, also - I like the idea of there being some interaction between them, since they were the youngest two DEs (that we know of) at the time. The description of the memories that arose when Regulus drank the potion was excellent, also - even though he was only nineteen, Regulus did have a lot of dark memories that the potion could torment him with, and you showed that so well. This fic was awesome, as usual! |
Ralinde chapter 1 . 6/23/2014 Interesting concept, to tell Regulus' story through the seven sins. You've made him believable and have given him a backstory. For me, the part that stood out the most, was 'lust'. I don't know why, perhaps it was because his interactions with Lily crosses borders, not only those between Gryffndor and Slytherin, but aso thosebetween Pureblood and 'Mudblood' and I think this is a turning point in the way he thinks about his parents' ideals. I have one critiscism and that is that I would've liked to see a bit more showing and a bit less telling. |
AHighAndLonesomeSound chapter 1 . 6/23/2014 This is absolutely excellent. You chose a really powerful way of telling Regulus' story, and then didn't go for any cheap emotional shots. You made me care about him, and I love the little nods to canon like Regulus seeing Hufflepuff's cup and the diary. Brilliant stuff! |
deletes chapter 1 . 6/13/2014 AHHHHH! WOW! I LOVE IT! Sorry for all that capitalisation, but really, not sorry, because I can not contain my excitement! This is brilliant. Your Regulus is different from how I've read him before, but really is perfect, nevertheless. Structuring the story around the seven sins was an amazing idea, and so effective. Sometimes, list type structures can feel clunky or disconnected, but here, it only enhanced the flow. I can completely believe that this came to you effortlessly, because it read so easily. I thought the repetition of "good boy" which you started off in "Pride" was fantastic, and when you modified it to "man" at the end, you tied it all together beautifully. "Lust" was intriguing! I've never thought of Lily and Regulus interacting, but with them both being in the Slugclub, it makes sense. I was amused that Regulus wasn't /trying/ to flirt, but he was just naturally charming in spite of himself, haha. I loved that he had this niggling feeling that despite being a Mudblood, Lily was more worthy than the Pureblood girls he knew. His conflict over that was wonderful. "Envy" was so powerful. I love the ending line, about the smoke coming off the tapestry, and Regulus being jealous of Sirius' freedom. "Sloth" made me squee, not least of all because Barty/Reg is a major ship of mine, hehe. But oh gosh, him just not being able to kill the man and thinking of Lily and Sirius felt so right for him. "Greed" was one of the best Voldemort/Death Eater scenes I've ever read. It was seriously as good as canon (better than canon, actually, but shhh, that's heresy :P). I loved how Regulus worked out that the objects were Horocruxes. Voldemort being all arrogant and flaunting them, but still being suspicious of Regulus, was spot on. "Wraith" was fantastic. Often, I've been a bit skeptical about Regulus changing his tune just because Voldemort tortured Kreacher, but you showed how everything had led up to this moment, the last straw, and it worked. The ending, about his choices, was brilliant. Because his character, imo, is all about making a tough choice, to do the right thing. *happy sigh* "Gluttony" was an outstanding finish, that really did justice to the whole fic. All those terrible memories, dragged on by the reprise of "more" - ah, it gave me chills. Best, best version I've ever read of that scene. You should be so proud of yourself for this story. It's one of the most compelling oneshots I've ever read. :D |
MissWitchx chapter 1 . 6/7/2014 Oh, wow, the incorporation of the seven deadly sins in this was so original! I love the subtle transition between each one; of how each snippet becomes darker and more serious in some way, and how your interpretation becomes more original (personally I think the way you used 'gluttony' was excellent), and the turning point in 'greed' was written beautifully. I love the characterization and overall I loved this story. |
MissingMommy chapter 1 . 5/19/2014 This caught my eye because I really adore when people explore Regulus. And this definitely delivered. I wasn't expecting this when I thought of the seven deadly sins. Usually writers tend to take them more literally, but some of these were more subtle. I liked that. Envy was my favorite scene. The idea that prideful!Regulus is envious of the freedom that Sirius has is remarkable. But I think the idea that Regulus wants control of his own life is even better. He's a "good boy" so he doesn't get to control his own life. He does what's expected of good children, and he obeys. So to be envious of Sirius means that a part of him doesn't want to be a "good boy" any longer, and I like that. The fact that Regulus carries a handkerchief is awesome. I feel like it's something that he would do. The scene with Lily just shows that Regulus isn't that much different from Sirius. Blood status doesn't really matter all the much to Regulus, like Sirius. The only major difference is that Regulus obeys and Sirius doesn't. Clever!Regulus is fantastic. I love how he started to recognize what Voldemort was doing. That was the beginning of the end, for him. He just didn't really know it yet. I kind of have the feeling that Voldemort heard what Regulus practically screamed at him - in his head. It would make sense as to why he picked Kreacher. I like the mention of Barty in Sloth. And I enjoyed how Regulus didn't want to kill. So Barty did it for him. I think you captured Barty very well here. And I think that you captured the post first-kill Barty wonderfully. He does seem the type to enjoy killing. Overall, this was a fantastic piece. Great job! |
The Crownless Queen chapter 1 . 5/11/2014 Dear god, this was amazing. I loved your characterization of Regulus in this, and I really found the idea of using the 7 deadly sins to do it. I completely understand not being to resist Regulus. Somehow, he's just one of those characters you know next to nothing about but really, really want to write ;) (I kind of hate you for making me think of RegulusLily, because now my brain is stuck on it... It was absolutely gorgeous though, and perhaps my favorite part ;) ) Thanks for this, I really enjoyed it :) Nice work :) |
