Reviews for Doctor Who: Parallax - Ghosts That We Knew
Godiva9 chapter 8 . 7/29/2014
A really loved this "episode"! The Daleks always freak me out, but they are by far my favorite bad buys.. er creatures... uh...things. I also enjoyed the emotional aspects between the Doctor and Rose, great Job! : )
Guest chapter 8 . 7/18/2014

TiaKisu chapter 8 . 4/3/2014
Oh, what a great ending to this ep. Finally she’s told him almost everything and thus this Doctor knows about the Bad Wolf and where the weird readings come from that he always got scanning her. Why do I have the feeling though that “no more looking into the Time Vortex” is going to work just as little as “no wanderin’ off”? He has no idea what will happen if she’d do it again, he suspects it would tear her apart but he already thought it should have burned her mind when she did it the first time. So who’s to say it would really destroy her and not just change her? Anyway, that’s a matter for another ep, or no ep at all – depending on what you have in store for us. :)

As for this final chapter: It was a wonderful closure. After the rush of adrenaline you put us through before this one is calming and conciliating. I adored how the Doctor was determined to live up to his title despite believing that Rose was dead. He thought she’d died for the man she saw him to be and that was his way of honouring her. Aw, and when he suddenly found her standing there, so very much alive - you described that moment beautifully.

I must say I, too, am sad that Jake died. I liked him but he did what he had to do. Rose with the canon was their only hope of stopping the Dalek, and he honestly cared for the valiant blonde. He was a good man indeed.
And as sad as it all is, it’s also fascinating in a way. Now the Doctor and Rose are connected in a way they have never been before because now they both know what it feels like. This was a war of sorts and Rose had to experience the loss of friends and colleagues, had to learn what survivor’s guilt feels like. She was always so very empathetic, but I could imagine this makes her understand the Doctor on a whole new level.
And speaking of him: I loved how he set new rules for Rose. Him saying it’s together or not at all now and that he won’t ever leave her behind… ah, I melted a little inside at that. This version of the Doctor sure understood a thing or two and he’s willing to have a future with her. He even teaches her how to fly the TARDIS. That’s fantastic! Rose sure is gonna be awesome at that, bet she even flies her better than he does. Hah! I do hope though that for their sake their trip to Cardiff is going to be a little less dangerous. Those two deserve a little break now.

Ah and so Chamberlain was that head of police! I was wondering already if the two of them were connected and I see they are (well, turns out they’re one and the same person). Still, that doesn’t explain the second companion thing, so still there’s more to the story than just that. Can’t wait to find out what it’s all about.

Thank you for gifting us with such extremely amazing writing, and thanks for posting three days in a row. Not sure I would have survived it if there had been the regular breaks between those chapters.
Have a fab Thursday!

Additional: I agree with Blue Wolf – I think this is my head canon now. Screw Journey’s End, this is way better!
yahira chapter 8 . 4/3/2014
a fantastic, and heartbreaking, episode. your bio says your cousin got you hooked on doctor who. i think we all owe your cousin a fruit basket, for bringing you and your talent to us.
Vaylyn chapter 8 . 4/3/2014
Aw, I just want to hug your version of Nine. He's my favourite Doctor.
And yay! No cliffhanger today!
Will Rose ever let The Doctor know how she felt about her first Doctor? Maybe he already inferred?
And yes, your fic is definitely one of my drugs right now. :P Hopefully there are no nasty side effects.
LadyDunla chapter 8 . 4/2/2014
Good ending as always, and I really like Rose getting to learn how to fly the TARDIS. You'll never know when that might come in handy, what with all the tight spots they get themselves into. And have I by any chance mentioned before just how much this reads like it was the actual Doctor Who? Everyone is just so in character.
Great job once again. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Blue Stone Shining Wolf chapter 8 . 4/2/2014
I've just been listening to Les Miserables, so when Rose starts blaming herself and also the Doctor mentions "It's not your fault you lived" reminds me of the song Empty Chairs and Empty Tables "Oh my friends forgive me that I live and you are gone..."

Ah Chamberlain, lovely how you carried that from a previous episode.

Silly to mention, maybe, but I like the tiny details about picking the grass apart as she talks. It is so real and human to do that. The things we fiddle with when having those long conversations maybe just because our hands need to do something, maybe so we have somewhere for our eyes to go when the eye contact is too much. Anyway, ads realism.

Still curios what Jack is doing in the AU. I am so glad Rose has told him everything. Well, the facts at least - maybe not the feelings. I am sure the Doctor might be able to fill in the blanks. But now she can go forward.

RIP Jake. Sob. I like the Doctor's sentiments about Mickey too.

Land war in Asia! HA!-Of course not, that would be inconceivable! (And never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.)

Oh, Nine! I want to kiss you! Finally learning from the mistakes of your alter (and the most recent experience) not to trick Rose and leave her behind. And flying the Tardis too, to protect her from the heart of the Tardis, Wow.

And love the line about the insurance. :)

Nice footnote.

Yes, wow. Emotional episode, but I am left with such good feelings nonetheless. Nice lighthearted final words. If you had to do a mid-season split like the BBC, this would be the place. But don't.

Alt Nine knocks the socks off of TenToo. This is my new headcaon. Now I just need to imagine Journey's End multi-companion saga without Rose and Mickey (and Jackie who is not even needed anyway), and the original universe can continue as is.
Mauve Guest chapter 8 . 4/2/2014
How do you keep knocking out these out of this world, incredibly constructed, professional grade episodes? You rock and I am so glad you are sharing your talent with all of us. Talk about a role reversal of gigantic proportions. The Doctor trying to comfort Rose and assuage her of her guilt. I wonder who would come out the winner between Genghis Khan and Jackie. I am so darn glad that Rose unloaded her past to her current Doctor. They no longer have Rose past as an impenetrable barrier between them. The Doctor's warning about Rose not looking into the Vortex again was sobering. Yeah, Rose is getting her Learner's Permit. The Doctor and Rose in the TARDIS as it should be!

This heavy stuff but the operative word is "willingly":
"I know why you did it. It was the only thing you could do, but I promise you, Rose, I will never put you in a position to make that choice again," he said, searching her face, "And, Rose, I will never leave you behind. Not willingly. It's together, or not at all, from here. Do you trust me?"

Thank you for posting this wonderful tale.

lol land war in Asia. This was beautiful. A lovely, touching, and still funny ending. Loved it.
NabikiB chapter 8 . 4/2/2014
Eleven is the lucky one, cuz if Rose's new Ten ever figures out how to allow himself to punch Eleven in the mouth for repeatedly abandoning Rose...he will.
TiaKisu chapter 7 . 4/2/2014
I knew, or suspected at least. Was delirious enough though to think that Sir could, at times, also be used as a gender neutral pronoun. Guess that's just the kind of thing that happens when you review during lunch break, at work. My apologies for the slip-up.

Anyway, Dame Evil Genius, so on with the reviewing: A bonus chapter, what an unexpected treat! Loved this one just like I did the last. It was emotional, thrilling, horrifying, awesome and so sad.
It breaks my heart to read how this Doctor, too, has to go through believing that the Dalek killed Rose. He's so vulnerable there, trapped as he sort of is and left to listen how his greatest enemy extinguishes so many lives. I am so glad that the next update is already scheduled for today and hope dearly that it'll be the chapter in which he realizes she's still alive.

I must confess squealed a little when he started thinking about her as "his" Rose, and "his" brilliant, lionhearted girl. Nine always had a slightly possessive streak, but in a good way. And this version of him has finally reached that point as well where he starts to think of her as his little human. That's just so cute it would make me happy if the situation itself wasn't so awful.

He's so close to her though, and I can't wait for them to be reunited!

Oh and Rose, she was beyond brilliant. Standing her ground and defying that Dalek. Asking the creature whether it was afraid of the Big Bad Wolf was just so bad-ass though pretty much an insider. I have to mention it though... another companion? In Cardiff? Ow, you are gonna do this, right? You are going to bring this universe's Jack in because who else should be in that city? I can't wait for that to happen! It would be such an emotional encounter for Rose because those two were so much like siblings in the show. It's so weird though - how can Chamberlain know? Unless I just forgot, so far the Doctor never mentioned any other companion - not even during his internal "monologues" - so what's this about then? Also, how comes that man regards the Doctor to be his enemy? I can only suspect that in their personal future they'll end up in Chamberlain's past and do something he's not quite happy about. But I guess I'll just have to wait patiently for you to write and post that ep.

For now I'll count the hours till the next chapter comes online. Like another reviewer said - this is like watching the show, only that commercial breaks last hours/days instead of minutes which can be a bit like torture when all you want to do is binge-read this season. This said: go on, hurry up! ;)
LadyDunla chapter 7 . 4/2/2014
This certainly is a treat. The Dalek was properly scary, the kind of scary that almost makes me hear that voice in my head, and Rose handled the situation beautifully. I don't suppose the Bad Wolf means anything to anyone in that universe, but I do think it helped Rose in what she did. Plus she probably confused the Dalek with this.

Great job. Thanks so much for sharing!
Blue Stone Shining Wolf chapter 7 . 4/1/2014
This first part typed before reading
#1 It's Tuesday - so that's a bonus. Didn't expect that on.
#2 Do you have ANY idea the feeling of trepidation that is caused by reading a *personal to you* warning that this chapter might be unpleasant? I feel like I am going through one of those Halloween mazes knowing something scary is going to jump out and scare the life out of me. So yeah, thanks...

Now the play by play:
"I'm afraid the Doctor isn't in at the moment. You should have made an appointment." Golden. Love Doctor Who/physician related puns when done well.

Wow I could hear the Dalek voice. And that was scary. Apparently imagining them without the aid of TV is what gets one to hide behind that proverbial couch.

Nononononono stay out of Cardiff, Dalek scum.

Woot! Bad Wolf reference by Rose. Rose wins the well placed pun award for the night. Love a fighter who is also a snarky wordsmith! (This is also why Spiderman is my favorite superhero.)

**
So glad for the bonus post. Awesome.

I saw about the Netflix thing but did not actually watch it. The Mary Sue recapped some of the better geek-related ones today. I still stand that I am not that fond of the day.
