A close-to-canon short story that imagines what happened between the pages - and during the summer - at the end of 'Anne of the Island', taking place from the time of Gilbert's near-death and recovery to his second proposal to Anne... and perhaps a little beyond! It begins at 'A Book of Revelation' and will feature the perspectives of both Anne and Gilbert.

Essentially a S2 AU from 1915, based on what might have happened if Mary and Matthew had met on the train from London to Downton in 1916. After the death of Marilla, a broken Anne finds herself as the teacher at Four Winds, needing a new beginning. Gilbert has been the town's doctor since the death of his uncle, and finds himself now confronting his past and an Anne barely recognisable as the girl he once loved. Old feelings begin to resurface and the two of them must unravel the grief of the past to start again.

This is the story of what might have happened between the last two chapters of Anne of the Island, between A Book of Revelation and Love Takes up the Glass of Time. We know that Gilbert comes quite often to Green Gables after his recovery. But what exactly happened between him and Anne that gives him the courage to "try again."

FILM UNIVERSE AU: Anyone who knows me, knows I'm no fan of The Continuing Story, honestly good points are Megan Follows, Jonathan Crombie, Schuyler Grant and Greg Spottiswood... The few scenes Anne has with Gilbert are magical but I think thats the actors carrying the script... So here are a few ideas where I think maybe I may have preferred the story to go.

A filling in of the gap left by LMM in Anne of Windy Poplars, Year 2, Chapter 6. With a nod to both LMM's cannon and the excellent apocrypha on this site. My small first attempt at going Between the Lines. I refer you to Bertha Willis' original for a much more accomplished version. This is my first attempt at fan fic and my first attempt at fiction in about 25 years, so be gentle.

Their first meeting was not, in fact, their first meeting. A non-linear AU tale beginning in Series 1. The first story in a series that continues with We Shall Fight.

Anne Shirley has loved Gilbert Blythe all her life. Did he really need to catch the fever for her to realize it, or is there another scenario that would have brought he and Anne together?
