Author has written 4 stories for Inheritance Cycle, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Harry Potter, and Mortal Instruments. These are just a bunch of rules I made up after reading other people's work on this site. Mainly it's just a list of my pet-peeves. If you want you can copy and paste this in your profile and more people can see it. You can also add your own rules and make it even longer. Fanfiction Guidelines 1.) Try not to put such long authors notes BEFORE the chapter. if your clarifying something about the story before we read that's great, but if you're going on some long spiel about why it took you so long to update, or answering your reviewers. (If you want to reply to reviewers then PM them), or that this is your first story blah blah. No one really cares about all that they just want to read your story. If your going to do an A/N then save it ti'll the end. 2.) song/fics if you want to tell us how you think a song relates to a story then that's great put it in your profile. Don't post lyrics and some sentences in between and call it a story because it's not. Instead it's a confusing mixture of copyrighted material and someone's lame attempt at being poetic. 3.) Chapter length should be at least 1,000 words (not including A/N) 4.) Don't embed A/N throughout your story it's confusing, and distracting. Real published authors don't do that neither should you. If you want to clarify something put an asterisk next to it and explain it at the end of the chapter. 5.) Don't beg for reviews, or withhold a chapter for reviews that's just rude and unprofessional. Authors write because they love it not because they want the recognition. Real published authors don't do that neither should you. 6.) If your going to go to the trouble to favorite a story you might as well take the extra step to review and tell the author what it is about the story you liked. We authors put a lot of work into these and we'd like some feedback. 7.) If your going to go to the trouble to review don't just write one sentence, or even one word for example. "Awesome!" or "I love it!" professional, paid reviewers write entire essays of a response to someone else's work. I'm not asking for an essay but at least a paragraph saying what you liked, what you didn't, and what to fix. 8.) If you choose to abandon a story then delete it, don't just write DISCONTINUED on it. No one is going to read a discontinued story anyway so you might as well delete it. 9.) Disclaimers, it's fanfiction.net we know before we click on your story that you don't own copyrighted characters, and ideas so really it's unnecessary and annoying to write "disclaimer I don't own pjo" (or whatever) before every chapter. 10.) If your writing about characters that are a different nationality than you, then do research on their country and dialect. Don't just assume that people speak English (or whatever language) the same way everywhere. Words can have different meanings for example the word fag can mean both a cigarette or a derogatory remark about homosexuals depending on what country your in. Words are even spelled differently. 11) Don't make an entire chapter an authors note that's just unprofessional and disappointing to your followers. 12) USE SPELL-CHECK BEFORE POSTING!! seriously that should be a no-brainer 14) Don't put personal info in your summary like "I suck at summaries" first of all that is really unprofessional, and the potential reader will probably be thinking "if the summary sucks than the story must suck as well". So avoid anything personal in the summary like (but not limited to) "This is my first story please be nice." or "Please review." save personal stuff for the A/N 15) If you are going to the trouble to say "warning characters might be OOC" then create an OC don't make a character into something their not. Favorite Genres steam punk fantasy mystery historical fiction classics adventure/action non-fiction/history/science I love science (mainly physics and biology) so I'm very picky when it comes to science fiction as in the author has to obey all our scientific laws, principles, theories for me to take it seriously and enjoy it. Favorite Series/books- "The Leviathan series" by Scott Westerfeld "Percy Jackson and The Olympians" by Rick Riordan "The Inheritance Cycle" by Christopher Paolini "Harry Potter" by (Everyone knows who she is :D ) "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S Lewis "The Great Gatsby" F. Scott Fitzgerald "The infernal Devices series" by Cassandra Clare Anything by Mark Twain Anything by Robert Louis Stevenson "The Sherlock Holmes Novels" by Sir Arthur Conan doyle "The Robert Langdon Novels" by Dan Brown "The Adventures of Jacky Faber" by L.A. Meyer "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins (Only the first two, I didn't like Mockingjay) "Enders Game" "The Book Thief" I've read a lot of books these are just the ones off the top of my head My writing I ship canon I don't use OC's much if I do they're minor characters I try my best to keep away from OOCness I'm always up to suggestions so feel free to express your ideas to me I don't do slash (unless it's canon), smut, excessive gore, (My writing is usually rated K so go figure). |
