Margaret receives a letter from Mr Bell that throws her into despair. She is forced make a choice that wasn't meant to be hers, but the consequences are not hers alone to deal with.

Both Margaret's Mother and Father have passed away. Her Aunt is still in Italy and her Cousin in Greece. She is left all alone in Milton. How will Thornton rescue her, and will she inadvertantly rescue him in return?

What if Margaret Hale did look back at Mr. Thornton as she was about to leave Milton after the death of her parents? The story continues after Margaret visits the Thorntons to say goodbye and to give Mr. Thornton her father's book. Book and series based.

An alternate imagining of Mrs. Gaskell's story, assuming Margaret had been hurt more seriously on the day of the riot. Intertwines elements of both the book and the BBC series, but focuses less on angst and more on the relationship of John and Margaret. Distressed by her mother's death and afraid for her brother's life, Margaret Hale turns to prayer for comfort and guidance. The answer she receives will force her to swallow her pride and depend upon another. But will she be able to do so?

If Margaret had time to pick up those abandoned gloves, muse over what she said, and receive a few words of advice from Mr. Bell.

"Mr. Thornton has no complaints about his newly married life. He's waited for this so long, wanted Miss Hale so badly, and nearly dies from shock every time they can officiate the small, taken-for-granted moments of married life. He has no complaints. He has one complaint." Margaret has some Victorian Attitudes that need...adjusting. Good thing her husband is up to the task.

After Mr. Hale's passing, Margaret has to spend a week at the Thorntons while Mr. Bell arranges for her to move to London. She's uncomfortable at the idea of spending time with Mr. Thornton after everything that happened between them, and they soon find themselves in a compromising situation.

I always thought there should be a scene at the end of the miniseries where we actually saw things get resolved outright between Margaret and Mr. Thornton. I am expanding on this idea after a great beginning. Reviews are most welcome!

I recently watched North and South, and almost immediately I heard a song that made me think, what would happen if Margaret Hale had really wanted only to give John Thornton a business proposition? What if she really hadn't loved him? What if she had continued to live in Milton, but only to keep an eye on the property she now owned? This is my take on what might've happened.

During Mr. Thornton's proposal he realizes that there are other men who have tried to win Margaret's heart. As he is leaving the Hale home after a lesson with Mr. Hale, Mr. Thornton comes face to face with his competition. Or so he thinks.

New to Milton, Mr Hale encourages his daughter Margaret to develop a friendship with Fanny Thornton, his student's sister. He believes that the acquaintance will be beneficial to both ladies. John Thornton, the handsome Master of Marlborough Mills, also has high hopes for the relationship. But for reasons of his own...

Based on the TV mini-series, this story takes place after dinner but before the end of the evening. I always felt there was a scene missing that bridges the argument between Margaret and Mr. Thorton at the dinner party to him expressing is love for her after the riot the next day.

After Fanny's wedding, Margaret's feelings overwhelm her. As Bessie has already died, Margaret is forced to write things down in a journal. The title "Journey" refers as well to John's and Margaret's honeymoon as to their "journey" into life as a married couple. In accordance to the honymoon theme it's of course a bit on the "lemony" side, so ... enjoy! I wrote this two years ago when I discovered "North & South" in our local library; it's my first try in Fanfiction and I sure hope you'll like it.

There were many opportunities for Margaret Hale and John Thornton to discover their love for each other sooner than they did. At CHAPTER XL - OUT OF TUNE the happy ending was near... if Mr. Hale paid more attention to Margaret.

After Mr. Hale's death, Mr. Bell plans the funeral in Oxford. Margaret cannot bear not saying goodbye to her father, and must ask Mr. Thornton if he will allow her to accompany him to the funeral. Book Based for the most part.

-BBC version- Margaret Hale had thought about visiting Milton to propose her business plan, but she feared the fresh shame and pain seeing John Thornton would bring. After all, his passions for her were over. 6 years later, they meet again. Cue the drama.
