![]() Author has written 2 stories for Ninjago, and Lucky Luke. Hi there and welcome to my profile. My name is Moonlight and - obviously - I'm into fanfiction. I've been writing stories since my childhood, original fiction as well as fanfiction, but I only publish stories I deem worthy of publishing here on FFN. Although I'm currently publishing a Lucky Luke fanfiction, my current obsession is still Ninjago. Favorite Books: - The Hobbit / The Lord of the Rings / The Silmarillion - J.R.R. Tolkien Favorite Authors: Favorite Comics: Favorite Movies: Favorite TV Shows: Favorite Comedy Duo: Favorite Computer Games: Favorite Board Game: Favorite Role-Playing Game: Favorite Music / Bands: Hobbies & Interests: On the Ninjago Movie: As an avid fan of the TV-show Ninjago I was looking forward to the movie, but when it became clear that the story was basically set in an alternate universe and the characters were changed beyond recognition, I decided to not spend any money on it. It is sad to see that in an attempt to appeal to a broader audience, the essence of Ninjago - the very thing that made it special and stand out from other TV-shows - was thrown overboard in favor of elements believed to be more "popular". From what I can see, this strategy didn't pay, as the movie disappointed the long-time fans of the show while not attracting as many new viewers as expected. I can totally understand why the movie was meant to stand on its own, but there really was no need to deviate from the show in this fashion. It would have been much, much better if the movie had been a condensed (but in places expanded) version of the first part of the show (pilots, Seasons 1 and 2). This way the real story of Ninjago would have been made available to a broader public - to people who had been wondering what this show they kept hearing about was like, but who also didn't want to commit themselves to watching multiple seasons. It would have been an opportunity to flesh out the show's backstory, delve deeper into Ninjago's history and culture and last, but not least, answer some questions the show raised when seasons were being added. For example, the movie could have shed some light upon the circumstances of Misako's abandonment of Lloyd and her early relationship with Wu and Garmadon. It could have explained how Zane got his element, why Jay was abandoned by his birth parents, why and where to the Ultradragon disappeared, why the Tornado of Creation isn't used anymore and so on. This way the movie would have been interesting for new viewers as well as for long-time Ninjago fans, it would still have stood on its own, but it wouldn't have clashed with the continuity of the show. Unfortunately, the general public will associate the name "Ninjago" with the movie rather than with the show, so from now on, a fan of the original will always have to explain that the show they adore is light-years ahead of the movie regarding overall plot and writing. It really makes me sad and even angry that most people are likely to take the Ninjago Movie as the real thing instead of the show. What a pity that the producers' decisions weren't primarily motivated by the desire to tell a great story - the real story. |
