A guide to writing reviews. Hey, folks. As I'm getting back into writing, I'm noticing a lot of issues with readers neglecting to leave reviews on people's stories. I'm only writing this because I fall privy to it too, and I really don't want to be that person. I want to interact with you folks, and I want to talk to you guys about our fandoms. So if you happen upon my profile and you are also bad at communicating with the writers, here are some tips that might help you. 1.) Always be respectful. If you don't like the fic, or the pairing just isn't your taste, move along (idk why you clicked on it in the first place) or just don't mention it in your review, if you decide to leave a review. 2.) Help a fella out. Idk if you've seen my early stuff, but I was not the best story teller. I was just a hormonal teen, who wanted to write about my otps (and their kids). I wasn't the best writer is what I'm trying to say. But people who saw the potential in my work, suggested helpful tips to make my writing better. I still have a long way to go in writing, but I'm much better now thanks to those lovely people who were kind enough to give me advice. Example: Hey, nice story you have here. I see you're having trouble with your tenses. Make sure you stick to either past or present tense, it gets kinda confusing when you switch from one to another. Can't wait for the next chapter! 3.) List the best things about the work... and the things they might need work. Writers love to hear praise from their audience, but we also need to know what we need to work on. Example: I love how natural the dialogue is. When X said this to Y, I cackled!!! I think you need to work a little better on the setting, though. It was little confusing in the middle when Y grabbed the teapot. Were they in the kitchen? 4.) Be nice. Especially to those just starting out. Don't be a bully. This kind of goes with tip #1. We're all at different levels on here. Some people may be just starting out, some people may have already published several novels. But we're all here for one thing: to create fanfiction. Let's help people, not bring them down. I changed my name to Alonso King of Naples, which I named after my mannequin head, Alonso King of Naples, who was named after Alonso King of Naples in the Shakespeare story The Tempest. My previous username was getting old and it no longer reflected my personality. It was something I used back when I first started writing and reading fanfiction. I hope you guys stay and read and review my stuff. Come send me a message if you want to start a conversation about the fandoms we're in together or characters we both like. Thanks for all the dang diggity years on here. I love you. Alonso, King of Naples Originally, Firelordawesome. |
