Author has written 49 stories for Lewis, Inspector Morse, Stargate: SG-1, and Stargate: Atlantis. I'm a Morse and Lewis lover having come to them by way of the books and the odd Inspector Morse video that made its way through our local library. I'm new to writing for these characters and not completely comfortable trying to write something that sounds British, but I'm enjoying the challenge of it. I love stories that nail the characters and make the readers feel as though they are watching a scene or episode of the actual show; if the author can hammer in the ending with a satisfying 'umph', so much the better. And that is the kind of story I would like to able to write. I tend to write character pieces that explore a character's thoughts and feelings during episode scenes because I'm not that good with action and have never tried to write a mystery (though I practically teethed on Sherlock Holmes and Ellery Queen and if I could spend five minutes talking to any author in the world it would have been Dick Francis, the master of mystery writers). I'm a Christian and easily embarrassed, so I don't write anything that would shock my husband or I'd be ashamed for my older children to read. When the words are coming, I write hard and fast. My husband, children, house, and garden languish in neglect; sleep becomes something I used to do; and rather obvious, blatant typing errors and such get missed in the final proofing stage at 1:52 AM...I hope you won't hold them against me. I love hearing how others like my stories (and try to not get horribly bitter and depressed in hearing when they don't), but, in the end, I'm really writing for myself, for the satisfaction of knowing I've hit what I wanted to hit, I've managed to convey the pictures in my mind to the written word, and that, finally, I can get some sleep! I'm here for the fun of it--and because there are only so many times I can rewatch my Morse and Lewis DVD's, and 4 new episodes a year are just not enough! Just found out a couple of my old StarGate-SG1 stories have been nominated for the 2014 Sam & Jack Multimedia Awards...if anyone here's a fan and would like to check them out, you can find them at the Heliopolis site. They are The Standing Series (nominated for Best Drama) and Inside the Dragon's Egg (nominated for Best Angst) both written under the pen name of Offworlder. As the Heliopolis site is long defunct, and I've had a request for one of my old stories, I'll be posting a bit to the SG-1 board here soon. Sorry, Lewis followers, for the off-board notices you might receive. |
