Author has written 31 stories for NCIS, Toy Story, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Sense8. Jananae's Golden Rule of Fanfiction: Character ALWAYS comes first. More than the plot, more than the story being told, respect for the characters is the most important thing. If you can't make the reader care about the characters, they won't care about the story. Hello to all you readers out there, my name's Janine. I thought up my first fanfiction story, "A Mangled Reminder," while I was bored at work one night. On a whim, I wrote it up when I got off at midnight and posted it here the next morning. And so it goes. I only write when I have a strong idea come to me, so the pieces that I post will be pretty sporadic. Jananae's Recommendations: Of all my pieces, I consider "Our Night" and "At a Loss" to be my most well-written stories. To me, they communicate their respective messages the best among all my fics. Some preferences I have with fanfiction: I'd like to take this moment to create my own word and say that I don't like "uncanoness" in either the characters or the stories they're in. Obviously, I have no problems with creatively changing things as long as they're written well, but I like the movies and books that I watch and read because of the way the characters are portrayed and the stories are told. Why fix what's not broken? Instead, I like the fanfiction that simply expands the reader's knowledge of the already existing story. The best stories are about the smallest things that we may never see: A small gesture here, a little exchange there. That being said, I like to write my fanfiction in "plausible possibilities." That is, I write only what I think is probable within the canon of the situation and characters. |
