Writing is something you can't explain to someone.

They'll never understand why you have so many composition books.

They'll never get why you have a favorite pencil and a favorite pen.

They'll never understand you mourning a character you killed.

They don't get it.

Don't expect them to.

They will believe what they want to believe:

You're sadistic.

You're depressed.

Something happened to you.

People don't just write this stuff, this has to have happened to you.

All of it could be true.

Or none of it could be.

The truth is that everybody has a different reason for writing.

It's your therapy.

It's your thought process.

It's a hobby.

It's an addiction.

It's the one place you have power.

It's as close to magic as you'll ever get.

It's your hopes.

It's your wishes.

It's your dreams.

Don't try to explain yourself.

You don't have to do that.

Just keep writing.

Do what you love.

Love what you do.

And never doubt yourself.

Your ability to create emotion with words is magnificent and you should be proud.

Hone it.

Practice it.

Use it.

This is your language.

Speak it.

Love it.

Immerse yourself in it.

This is what we do.

We write.

And you don't need anybody's approval to do that.
