Fanfiction's Biggest Trauma: OC v.s. Mary-Sue or Gary-Stu

(Note:Gary Stu is a male Sue, not they're not as popular as our friend Mary but they're still out there)

Most avid readers of fanfiction know exactly what I'm talking about when I say it's the biggest trauma,in stories on Fanfiction.net and basically in all Fanfictions.

Now truthfully I don't mind OC characters, I mean come on look at my stories I write with basically OC's in every one. Now, I understand that some people do not like OC characters. I respect that, I understand; it's cool I totally get where you're coming from. But that doesn't mean you have to flame all OC writers, just because you've read a lot with Mary Sue. I mean, seriously you don't see us flaming you for NOT having Mary Sues. Anyway moving on, as we all know a Mary Sue is:

An original character that's basically 'perfect'.

That's flawless, or lacking of noteworthy flaws.

Who hogs the spotlight.

Who doesn't even in the slightest , possible way, whatsoever ,barely fit into the story, even with the authors plot.

Who nobody, except for the writer and everyone in the Fic, likes.

There's different degrees of horrible, Mary Sue Characters. From basically the writer putting her(him)self into the story, to a drama queen. No matter what the story is basically all Mary-Sue's are the same, BUT not all OC's are the same.

I think all OC writer's need to take the time while writing a fiction, to make sure that their OC has strong points and weak points. The perfect combination of both makes a beautiful story. Now, I'm not saying this to hurt anybody's feelings or flame anybody's stories. This is basically for three reasons: 1. For any beginning, or maybe avid OC fanfiction writers who just happen to stumble across my page. Just to help them out so that there writing skills can improve 2. For my, personal build up on Mary Sue's, it's like a rant in a way. 3. Just so the world can know where I stand on this Mary Sue issue.

For helpful purposes I've scouted out some good websites that can tell you about Mary Sue and give you tips on 'How Not To Write Them'. So just copy, and paste theses and you're all set!

I am sorry for any of my old readers, I have basically deleted ALL my old stories and only new ones remain. You have to understand that I was going absolutely nowhere with them and I don't think I was every going to go anywhere with them ever again.
