Attention awesome readers of "Off by a Single Degree"! I've decided to split the fic into multiple pieces because the length was starting to get ridiculous. It wasn't the original plan to make this into a series, but I should've realized it was inevitable once I reached 150,000 words and it was still only the middle of the summer before season one.

I was thinking about my plans for where this monstrosity of a fic will be going, and it seems like there are five distinct arcs. The first arc begins with Damon *not* compelling Elena to forget him and ends with him reversing that decision in a moment of irrational angry panic after their friendship has grown and they've both fallen in love. I love how that comes full circle. That arc is also about the gradual formation of Team Gilbert/Salvatore and Richard Lockwood's journey from mere abusive douchebag to actual supernatural villain. From the end of "Memento/Inception Double-Feature," the story has distinctly different goals to accomplish (but don't worry, shippy Damon/Elena goodness will still be one of them), so it made sense to pull the original 20th and 21st chapters of Part I into Part II.
