Reviews for Chiaroscuro
Rachelea chapter 1 . 3/28/2015
Aaah. As a (sort-of) artist who favors charcoal, I really liked this. Brings new meaning to the phrase "John was drawn into Sherlock's life" :D Okay, that pun was bad.
IsoldeAhlstrom chapter 1 . 1/5/2014
I don't get it. But, I like it. It's interesting. Did John just appear? Was he always there? Or did Sherlock cause him to appear? A very well-written story. Keep up the good work!
cary chapter 1 . 9/16/2013
and blessed be to you. i like your story.
Kat-lady04 chapter 1 . 11/3/2012
This is really interesting, but I've gotta know, what? Either Sherlock is delusional, amnesiac, or magic. I'm confused. But it was a good story!
HonorLove chapter 1 . 10/25/2012
Love the story. Well-done artistic stories are an absolute weakness of mine!

I can see coming at this from one of two ways:
1) Sherlock brought John to life through some sort of magic,
or
2) (and this is the one I'm going with) Sherlock tends not to see people as "real". He's all about his cases, his mysteries, which is why he draws them. Lestrade "pings on his radar" so to speak because he does have his moments of understanding/accept Sherlock, but when John pops up he manages to work his way inextricably into Sherlock's life...making John the first person Sherlock sees "in color".

That said, I'd love to see/read the prompt!
Kelgadis chapter 1 . 5/23/2012
So Aha but Sherlock? That's my interpretation. Take on John Watson! (I would _)

Anyway, cool story!

CogScript chapter 1 . 5/22/2012
I really do love reading artistic stories, and I would like to know what your original idea behind this story was, I'd be very grateful if you could message me to explain it to me.

I love the imagery this story invokes in my mind; Sherlock's sharp attentive eye sketching out accurate detailed drawings of his cases, and the idea of adding something in that 'wasn't already there' is such an artistic thing to do, letting the art speak for itself, but at the same time it's such an un-Sherlock thing to do, but the way you went about doing it made it seem very logical and gives the reader insight to his lonely character and state of mind.

Furthermore I think you chose Sherlock's medium very well; charcole, it would be like someone who is so bleached of colour and livelyhood to draw in monochrome.

Sorry if this has uselessly rambled on for a bit, this is the longest reveiw I've ever written, but then again it's a story I like very much so I guess that justifies it, eh?
InkySpectacles chapter 1 . 5/21/2012
That was an extremely interesting concept, and beautifully written too- surreal without seeming nonsensical. I‘d love to see the original prompt for this, though an idea for a sequel just popped into my head;

“John‘s therapist told him to write for a reason- he‘s not half bad at it. So, after a while, he begins to write about a flatmate with pale grey eyes and cure for a psychosomatic limp and a dramatic coat and a terrible habit of landing himself in a heap of trouble- the sort of flatmate the he would never want, but truely needs.“

I‘d love to hear what you think of it!
Hidden.Forever chapter 1 . 5/21/2012
Interesting. The way I see it, there are two ways to interpret your story : John is real (magic realism) and John is not real (imaginary friend). In my opinion, Sherlock is awfully lonely and creates the illusion of a friend to keep going. However, both are valid options (seriously, it's in the title). I wonder what the prompt was :P.

Speaking of the title, why does it show up as "Chiaroscuro" and "Chiaraoscuro" in different places? I don't speak Italian but I think only one is correct?
CowMow chapter 1 . 5/21/2012
Ha, really nice.

Okay, care to hear my theory? I think he deleted John in the first weeks of their friendship, but he couldn't really REALLY delete him, as John is too important.

Or he could just be doing drugs. Of course.
Akumaide chapter 1 . 5/21/2012
Oooh! How mysterious! Really well written as well, you succeeded very well in captivating me. You portray Sherlock well :)

The ending was lovely, I don't get at all what happened, but I liked that about it. Nice work.
