This was quite a good and descriptive piece of Penny's prelude, before she met the guys. Of course, I still think she should have broken Kurt's kneecaps with her bat but at lease she got to nail him where the sun doesn't shine. XD

I thought Kurt came later on? Was the TV-napper named Kurt as well? I like the idea of some insight into Penny pre-Sheldon/Len

I was really, really enjoying this- interested in your take on their break up, the emotional hurricane in the middle of the story, the way you actually portrayed Penny as a strong character amidst Kurt's crap- and I would have continued to enjoy it until you smashed it all with "If only Penny had a man, or men, to help her". I'm sorry, but if you're going to build up Penny as an independent character, a woman actually standing on her own two feet and leaving her cheating nobody of a boyfriend behind, why ruin it by ripping away her applaudable strength with a very anti-feminism line like that?

But hey. This was, apart from that, an interesting insight it to the what-might-have-been of pre-season one; I don't think I've ever seen such an in-depth look at Penny and Kurt's backstory like that.

I like how well it connects to the pilot. It seems a little weird to have penny cursing like that, but i guess on the show you(at least not yet)don't see penny get extremely mad. Did you know that the first pilot actually had a different lead female who had a very dark personality and treated the two guys badly. But the audience didn't like the way she treated them so the creators tried a different pilot. The producers said that Kaley Cuoco auditioned for the first penny, but she just wasn't that back to the review. I like how you made it where even though Kurt is tall and well built, he gets jealous if penny smiles at another guy. Sorry but one last off topic thing. Did you ever see the two and a half men episode with the actor who plays tbbt's kurt? Charlie tries to impress a girl by attempting to surf when he almost drowns and is rescued by a apparently gay lifeguard played by "kurt".

great story I've never thought about pre-season 1 or just how Penny got to 4b before very well done

This was rather different than usual, I've never really thought too much about pre-pilot Penny but the way you wrote the fallout between her and Kurt was perfectly in character. When you go back and watch the early episodes, its amazing how different Penny was then.

Breaking up with Kurt was one of the best things to ever happen to Penny, though at the time she would naturally have been devestated. Having anybody cheat on you would definitely be one of the worst feelings ever :(

I like the way you ended with a much brighter mood. Penny seeing Leonard and Sheldon for the first time and noticing just how different they are to Kurt and others like him. You've helped set up the building blocks for the pilot very nicely :D

I like how you handled the drama here. The way you introduce Penny at the beginning really sets the stage; it gives such a vivid mental-image of her mannerisms and characteristics. You had the warning for potential OOC-ness, but I never got that vibe at all. Her playful sexiness was really fun! I like her show of strength in the face of everything that went on, I thought that was a key part of her character (baseball bat! so perfect! Go slugger!) rather than just her bursting into tears and running away. Also, I liked your choice to have Kurt written as a guy that wouldn't hurt Penny, I think a lot of authors would have used the threat of physical violence against her to move the story along instead of standing on the cheating alone. I could definitely imagine this as a prologue to the series. Interesting piece to read. And I love how you introduced Doug here - it makes a part of me so happy that there was some ties to him before and that he wasn't just a random from off the street. Heh. :)

I just was watching the Pilot earlier today, so I could just image this fresh in my mind. Great job!

Wow, this fic was really intense, but I like how Penny totally kicked Kurt in the butt, and how you showed what a jerk he was. Also, I like how you included Doug, it made me smile for some reason. And, of course, I love the bright and hopeful ending where the story actually begins. Anyways, I really enjoyed reading this.
