Reviews for DragonAge: The Halla Reborn
tgail73 chapter 70 . 6/23/2019
I'm so glad to see this story finished. I used to be a regular reviewer, but real life circumstances prevented me from continuing. I'm so happy to get back to enjoying this brilliant story.

I enjoyed the very unique take on the game. The general plot was similar, but many of the details were vastly different. Very creative and well written.

Honestly, what really killed the story for me was the love triangle with Tabris. It was just so annoying. I was skipping large sections at a time to avoid reading it; unfortunately, it just became too much and I stopped reading after the landsmeet.
Eva Galana chapter 1 . 3/30/2016
To the idiot and obvious trolling guest reviewer - first: You obviously never played the game; Shianni is raped; second: I DO have a disclaimer. So deal with it. If you are such a coward as to not log in, you are a troll. Your review has nothing in it but obvious trolling. Deal with it. I doubt you are a victim. Except of the inability to comprehend the written word.

Omg this story has taken over my life these last few days but by god was it worth it! Absolutely brilliant loved it soooooo much though I will admit to wanting to smack Alistair more than once and wanting a very VERY painful end for Eamon. Cant say enough good things about this :D totally... Undeniably awesome! x
Shakespira chapter 83 . 3/22/2016
Congratulations on a wonderful, bittersweet and honest ending to such a deep and nuanced story. I enjoyed the journey tremendously.

That Roland died killing the archdemon didn't come as a surprise as he truly exemplified honor and sacrifice. This was a perfect ending for him for all that I had hope that in the end that he and Adela might have found a way to be together.

That Adela rode away from Alistair despite their love for each other was also a perfect 'ending' for their relationship. Some things are difficult to find once lost and trust is one of them. It takes a lot of work and time to sort itself out. There is a bit of hope in that ending, at least on his part, but he is still, in many ways, immature, for all the growth he went through in the story. I appreciate that they were not given a happily ever after ending as it would have gone against who these characters, as so wonderfully written by you, are.

The fighting, as always was tense and edgy from various points of view, bringing me right into Denerim and the battle for the archdemon. I like that not everyone survived, though I'm sad for poor Zev and also for Adela who lost an able, dedicated and loyal right hand in Roland.

Loved the Eamon subplot with the desire demon, it made perfect sense in the context of the story and was handled brilliantly.

I hope there is a sequel and that you continue writing.

Again, congratulations on a beautifully told tale.
Alpenwolf chapter 83 . 3/12/2016
R.I.P. Roland, may you be remembered as the one who killed the archdemon.

And that was a damn good idea with the desire demon, eamon and the others. Heck, I don't know how you made that up but I clearly like it. So yay for that and a yay for that bittersweet ending.
Wyl chapter 83 . 3/11/2016
An epic end to an epic story!

First, I like that you didn't take a "happily ever after" approach (not that I thought you would). You also wove in enough glimmers of hope for the ending not to feel unbalanced in the opposite direction.

Character death is always tricky because readers tend to have wildly different opinions about it, and it's more challenging in a situation like this where many of the characters potentially play roles in games/stories taking place after this one. I think the middle ground you took was probably the best option - have character deaths to illustrate that fighting legions of darkspawn and the archdemon isn't a one-sided glorious affair, while at the same time limiting them to the repurposed in-game NPCs rather than offing one or more of the in-game companions.

The fallout and consequences felt right for the characters involved. As you said, "sometimes that just isn't enough," and under the circumstances it only makes sense for Adela to shun Alistair's reconciliation attempts. Likewise, the remaining companions demonstrate a clear lack of respect for Alistair in their words and actions, and that's also fitting.

For Adela and Alistair specifically, I appreciate that you let Adela be *honest* in her assessment rather than cop out with (albeit legitimate) excuses. By that I mean she could've hidden behind the socio-political reality that despite Alistair's feelings for her, she's still an elf, he's still the king, and in Ferelden that means she could never officially be more than his mistress anyway. Given their prior relationship and short-lasting marriage, and her own position and responsibilities, even Alistair should be able to understand why Adela couldn't accept such an arrangement. But at this point in time none of those logistics mattered, so I was glad that Adela just told him the truth, that she simply didn't want to be with him now.

I thought you wrote the combat very well, incorporating the varying perspectives of the characters and strategy elements along with the hack and slash. I cringed at the mention of the ballista though -lol- I remember dying so many times trying to use that stupid thing (as the game strongly hints you should) before opting to just fight straight up.

Nice twist to bring about the conclusion of the Arl Eamon subplot. I really liked the idea of his villainy being prodded by a demon and being a further consequence of Loghain having him poisoned. Too many authors don't bother giving their antagonists any depth, so I wanted to make sure I complimented you for doing so.

Even if you never get around to a sequel of this, I do think you succeeded in having an ending that feels complete. Outstanding work on the story as a whole!
Legionary Prime chapter 83 . 3/6/2016
Its been a wild rise and its sad to see this story end but it ended on a very good note, knew there was something off about Eamon but wasn't expecting him to be controlled by that desire demon.

I hope things go well with your future writing endeavors
Shakespira chapter 82 . 2/12/2016
Yikes, a perilous place to leave Adela and crew! I await the next chapter eagerly.

As always you breathe life into a scene, building up the suspense with prose and putting us there at Fort Drakon with Adela and also at the city gates with Alistair. And Roland, who is a hero in so many ways, fighting his way through the darkspawn. There is an ominous undertone to his passage and yet I remain hopeful for him.

I have my secret hopes for how this all goes and my fear of how it will go, based mostly on subtle foreshadowing and shading. Regardless, I wait for the next chapter and thank you for posting this. I know how rough it is when the muse thumbs her nose at a writer.

Great chapter!
Kurt chapter 81 . 12/3/2015
This is an amazing story, I have read it quite thoroughly and highy enjoyed it. It made me inspired to finish the game as a city elf female myself, though I got to say it ended up not as gloom as your story seems to be going to :P

My question is however, will you be updating it any time? I can't help but notice that this jewel needs engraving in last few chapters. I'm really curious what will happen to Adela.
Alpenwolf chapter 81 . 7/6/2015
It has been a long time since the last chapter, which is a shame because this story has a good flow. Even though aeducan, brosca, amell, surana, mahariel and cousland were alive only tabris was a warden. The way you introduced them and sometimes took care of them was good, it didnt feel forced.

Ah, i wanna read the next chapter. When will it be due?
Alpenwolf chapter 74 . 7/5/2015
You know what would be epic? Isolde killing eamon or something... manipulative asshole
Alpenwolf chapter 73 . 7/5/2015
The more i see and read here, the more i believe that eamon himself is a mage of sorts ... at least i get that feeling ... there is something unnatural about him
Alpenwolf chapter 72 . 7/4/2015
I somewhat understand riordian but arawn would have just killed them all and never cared about being a warden.

And did cauthrien just kill anora as a revenge for arawns death or am i too fast in making her the culprit?
Alpenwolf chapter 69 . 7/4/2015
Maybe im somewhat heartless but seeing shianni here, after believing her being dead for a long time, i cant help myself but feel relieved.
