Beautifully written but so full of aching pain for both of them.
joeylub chapter 1 . 6/15/2010
Another lovely story. 'The ache deepened, the pain lessened.' and you wrote so that we could feel each and every ache and pain. Thank you!

Loved the insight into John's feelings. Must have been so hard to lose Elizabeth yet again. The series never really explored any of this so it's great to get a chance to read your take on it. If I remember correctly the only time they really got a chance to show how they felt about losing someone was when Carson died. Loved the poignancy of sentences like:

'He looked down at their joined hands, her smaller darker one intertwined with his, and the ache deepened, but the pain lessened. Some things simply were, some disappeared and some never began, and others were lost forever.' Just makes me more certain they should have at least finished the series together! At least we can make that happpen! Loving these pieces from the last series - looking forward to your next one.

Well done. It's interesting because at Fedcon in February, Joe and David talked about the fact that in the series, they didn't have the opportunity to show the emotions that the characters would have felt after losing someone close, not just once but several times. Thanks for addressing that emotion in this story.

Always nice to see the deeper side of John, the side we don't get to see as much of in the show. Even if it was bittersweet. ;)
LetyBaroque chapter 1 . 6/11/2010
A bittersweet, quiet, serene, moment. I like those instants between them. I like the way you show how the other presence is both soothing and painful for each other.

And some very beautiful, evocative, sentences:

"The temptation to dry them, to soothe her pain rose in him, but it was not his place to offer such comfort. To press a kiss to her temple, to her lips, and try to offer something warm in place of the cold, but it was not his to give."

and

"He pressed his palm to hers, sliding his fingers between hers to clasp her hand in his. It was more than he would have shared, but less than what his heart wished."
