You really had me believing that Dean was hunting Sam! I kept wondering if he was possessed, or spelled, or WHAT - and then it turns around to show Sam's the one hurt and Dean's trying to get to him. Wonderful ride, on top of the idea that Dean "if I didn't know you, I'd want to hunt you". But he does know Sam, so he doesn't. YES!

Great story. Had me going there for a little while.

Good story. I love dream sequences and this one of Sam's was scary because he was very much a part of the environment-the gravel, the injuries, the rust on the ladder-all those details made it so real! I've read another story based on the same thing Dean said, but it was an AU. I've thought about writing something along the same lines myself, but it'd lead to the reason the boys get the anti-possession tattoos. Not pretty.

Anyway, THANK YOU for writing this story! it was a treat!

Oh lordy I think you broke my heart (as well them Winchester boys) half way through this read... the nightmare hurting/hunting down Sam's inner psyche almost too painful to read at times. Then by the end you helped put a huge bandaid across my heart and help in the healing process that both boys needed. Lovely story telling, that I have been lucky to find.

Wow, moogs, that was written in character so well, I'm half convinced it really happened on the show. Nice work!

Poor Sammy, he was breaking my heart in that dream.

This was a great line: "His entire life had been – and still was – dedicated to protecting Sam." Love that the real-life Dean was able to break through and that it was his words Sam heard instead of mean dream-Dean's.

So glad they cleared the air, because I think you're absolutely right-Dean would never hunt Sam. He was just scared for him and trying to make him see reason.

Poor Sam, to be caught up in his worst nightmare. And poor Dean, to have his cautionary words come back to bite him in the butt like that.

Ah, now that's a perfect lead up to a bitch/jerk moment. I especially loved the last few paragraphs...pure awesome!

I can see this as a nightmare Sam could have. Sam has had to fear so many things in his life; things most civilians never encounter and the few that do usually don't live to tell about it. But with every encounter Sam has had he's always been able to count on Dean to watch his back. He looks at Dean as the best hunter ever. And since that fateful day that their dad said those words to Dean. Sam must have had in the very back of his mind a fear so great he keeps it well hidden. The what if it ever comes to that prophecy of the best hunter he knows having to hunt him. Surely that is the stuff of nightmares.

I have problems with the show sometimes, I just don't think they can put as much on Sam as they do without him cracking more. They played him as the emo sensitive one from the first season, and then kind of forgot about it. Angels not wanting him, Dean telling him how far from human, there is no way he wouldn't be more upset. Thanks for giving him this little release!
