the inscrutable one chapter 13 . 7/22/2009 Far be it from me to trip over the tumbleweed but I find myself hopelessly drawn to any tale that simply refuses to die. What one do? I pause to congratulate myself for finishing it and then you go and jump start it again. You are the literary equivalent of the RAC. Upon my return to this dear old banger I expected another dollop of knives, blood and swearing and at first was smugly happy to see more of the same. And yet, it was strangely different. The first difference is not the why and wherefore but the 'how'. For look YK, there is one missing... 'But stirring might just mean waking Yuugi, even though the mortal slept like…well, “like the dead” lost its impact when you considered just (insert 'how' here) little sleep Yami, who could reasonably categorise himself as dead, needed.' Most unlike you. So I have used my 'unforgiving red marker' but there is more to it than that. In my jaded opinion there is a tangible difference in how this latest chapter reads. Is it more restrained? More obviosly conscious of literary style? Less you perhaps? Too many question marks? (Whoops, that's me. Sorry!) However I am still delighted to see flashes of the old YK quirkiness emerge. Egyptology and Ribena are splendidly odd companions and - good lord! -even the dear old lithium has returned once more to the fray. You know, I just cant wait for the introduction of card gaming to the tale. Well, on second thoughts, perhaps I can; so let's get it over and done with YK! For as someone of merit once said... "Let’s hurry up and start already. We’re wasting precious moments of potential agony". |
LilyRosetheDreamer chapter 13 . 7/17/2009 This story is freaking awesome! It reminds of the Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction "In The End". And of the "Twilight" series. It has the same dream-like, formal quality to it. Great read. |
Kuroi Ruusu chapter 13 . 4/24/2009 Gyah! I think I pretty much hyperventilated when I saw this! That is one Friday spent thouroughly less depressed than normal, ignoring the fact that I have to be at work in a few hours... AMAZING, as usual! I adore your characterisation, your plotline, your ideas, your talent at writing... pretty much anything else that comes to mind. And I think I could faint with love for your Yami no Bakura. Seriously, words cannot express the worship I have for this story. If it meant that I could never read anything else ever, I would still be content to pick this. More soon? *gives you three wishes, genie-style, as an incentive* |
Kuroi Ruusu chapter 5 . 1/31/2009 I have now lost track of the number of times I have read this chapter. Unbelievable is nowhere near a good enough word to describe it. It is so beautiful I almost can't breathe when I read it. I am completely and utterly in love with your writing. Even at the length of some of these chapters, it could never be enough. Your Ryou is adorable. Your Yami no Bakura is perfect. All of your other characters are exactly how they should be, and not a single fault with any of them. You have true writing talent - something which is so rare in the world of fanfiction. The only question remaining: where is the next chapter? I'm getting desperate here! |
the inscrutable one chapter 12 . 12/2/2008 At last! I have waded through the final flurry – for the time being at least – of this extraordinary psychological gore-fest. Intertwining the emotional and the emetic, it has been a curious beast. Not one we would wish to cuddle up to but most certainly a creation worthy of examination (nay, dissection) from a safe distance. The mix of profanity and playground inanity is typical of the surprises within – from the f-ing and fricassee fest to a politely British first dibbery. But amidst the knife play remains psychological insight. As ever some splendidly withering lines. ‘Your presence taints this room’. It sounds like something I have heard hurled, or perhaps hurled myself, across many a classroom. Full marks for expressing Cairo’s light quite beautifully in ‘stronger buttery shades’. So much more fulfilling than low fat spread. Ah, I do like my literature to be satisfyingly calorific… |
Niilan chapter 12 . 9/12/2008 Wow, where to begin? I'm going to incorporate my thoughts on all the chapters thus far in this review. This is an extremely introspective fic. Your analysis of each character is thorough. Though some might say your portrayal of the charaters is a bit OC, you have adequately stated that you have written the way you preceive them. I like how each character has been forced to come out of his/her box in some aspect. Your style is amazing. You write with breathtaking imagery and enviable metaphors. I applaude your talent. However, you must be careful that you do not sacrifice clarity for extravagance. I know it is tempting, and you write beautifully, but your story is a little hard to follow at points. There are a several scattered mechanical and grammatical errors, but nothing a good proofreading shouldn't fix. Another thing you want to avoid is switching point of view within scenes. Again, this a splendid piece of workmanship. A bit to much language for my taste, but siezes my attention and has yet to loosen its grip. |
Allecto Goddess of Madness chapter 12 . 8/1/2008 I know I've probably said something similar before, but I've just been re-reading this (due to the overwhelming amazingness of it) and it struck me how truly stunning your writing actually is. Seriously, you could publish books (and I would go and buy them when you do - let me know when the release date is!). The only problem is that this isn't finished! You can't leave me craving more this badly! I keep checking pretty much every day to see if there's a new chapter, and I'm always deeply disappointed when the little number still says twelve. Please, please, please, I need to read the next chapter! You will have my eternal love when it appears. |
the inscrutable one chapter 11 . 7/3/2008 Well this is interesting YK. You appear to have taken on the mantle of doing for 'Mikado' what Ingmar Bergman did for chess. And it's really pretty good. I did have a beautiful hand carved Mikado box about my person at one time but it has doubtless been buried beneath a sea of paper foolishness.. Your notion of 'pointless debate of concepts which ultimately they had no hope of understanding' reminds me only too well of the time I spent studying philosophy. Honestly, I had no choice. I was only following orders. But I can certainly appreciate the moment when '...he received the chance to clarify and reinforce his own beliefs, which were, after all, Truth'. Though too much self belief can be a dangerous and destructive thing it can of course be rather useful at times. I liked your little essay on mental stability, comparing it with tugs on a kite was a nice touch. A really interesting bit of imagery. As for the 'lithium carbonate'...well this has featured in the past hasn't it? You obviously gave this section a lot of thought. Favourite quote of the day? Possibly 'this was his head, after all, and he would be damned if he was to be denied access to any part of it'. One could only find it here... |

Beth chapter 12 . 3/29/2008 YAY! New chapter! *dances* Sorry about that... slightly hyper tonight... But yeah, so happy that there's more for me to read! I do love your Ryou so much. He's so effing adorable. And your Yami Bakura for that matter. Didn't know whether to laugh or sit on the edge of my seat reading this. Also quite amused that the Pharaoh reminding me of a child-minder at the moment. Simply genius! Beth -x- |
Bakura's Guardian Angel chapter 1 . 3/28/2008 Great story so far, I am on Chapter 4. I like the "kinder" twist you have given Yami Bakura. It is really exciting and suspenseful! A recommendation, in future stories/chapters, don't have them swear so much... Other then that, WAY WAY GOOD! :) |
Spidey meets Wizard-Theif chapter 12 . 3/28/2008 Awesome job! Please update soon! -WT |
