CrystalMoonlightII chapter 1 . 4/23 Wow! I'm gonna be real with you dude. This is the most invested I've been in a story in quite some time. I've been coming back and reading this one on and off for days. At first I had this morbid curiousity. Never was a phrase more fitting than "Nero fiddled while Rome burned," at the start of this story. Peri kept digging herself a deeper hole. No matter what poor Laslow did to help her it just getting worse. For a time they had peace and shared something special. It was a genuinely heart warming moment. But sadly, I knew in the back of my mind it wouldn't last. I really appreciate this story. It was straightforward, easy to read, and very engaging. Consider this a like from me alongside a big "thank you" from one Fire Emblem writer and fan to another. Always a pleasure to find a good writer on here. |
RealCoolDude chapter 1 . 3/15/2019 ...Well my weekend’s ruined. I take pride in knowing very few stories make me cry. Thanks for making me swallow it. |
Allstarall chapter 1 . 9/9/2018 Ah. A range of feelings are happening. And they aren’t sudden or shocking. Good story. Ah. His dad is Henry. That explains a lot. Peri. Her end was a fitting one. |
MenacingRelic98 chapter 1 . 2/5/2018 Fuck you, you made me like, root for, and feel bad for Peri. Even when she's in her mess because she fucking killed someone. You're a good writer to pull that off. ;) |
equach chapter 1 . 1/17/2018 Wow, this is beautiful. It has it's funny moments as well as some dramatic moments. Kind of odd that Corrin remains merciless even though Inigo showed that he and him have a lot in common, but sort of understandable. Another odd thing is that I sadly think Peri deserves more than death like have her confront all that she has killed so that she can learn her lesson. But that's just me. |
Blahdy blah chapter 1 . 11/26/2017 Maybe it's cause I skimmed through this both times now (not helped by the fact I wasn't exactly finding much 'humor' in this story) but where the hell did Peri 'apparently' kill Kana...? I'm serious, the way the story seems to be written the only people she actually managed to kill was Felicia (Nice going Corrin allowing her to be around a person known for murdering her servants, real smart you idiot) and Flora (whose marrage to Corrin really does come far to late to have the meaningful effect you intended). Then there's Xander who really doesn't feel fully utilised, seeming kinda weak and washy in his attempts to mimilise the consequences of Peri's actions (think he be a lot more harsh personally) Gunter and Jakob however do seem a lot more in character though, both harsh and unfettered in both judgement and action, Silas too what with the death of his best friend's...wife...? (Sorry, it's still not having an effect on me, plus I'm still confused about Kane, during the escape maybe?) Charlotte's actions are both in and out of character I'd suppose, in character for the fake tears persona, yet out of it for apparently getting nothing out of it (or maybe she did, I've forgotten while typing this all out) In anycase I guess Odin and Severa are also close enough in character (not knowing anyone like Peri is odd, isn't Henry almost the same 'crept for the known mountain of corpses?) Corrin meanwhile... err... I mean I know we're supposed to sympathise with him for his losses, but mister 'I love EEVVVVVEEERRRYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEE' seems to be a more darker version of his Birthright personality (Conquest was characterised as unable to accept any sort of death in anything, or something I really can't stand him right now). Plus there's the whole manipulating the evidence and facts to ensure the execution of someone he hates (Wasn't that the reason he led a genocidal campaign though Hoshido, to stop Garon, Iago and Hans from killing anyone they hated, not that Peri's hands are clear either mind you) I will admit I like the two scenes where he faces off against Laslow, a good series of lines and character description were you can actually see his pain and anger threatening to break free (certainly better characterisation than the game's 'attempts' that's for certain) One problem however, is that based on Laslow's feelings for Peri, as well as him being a morality pet for her, it'd seem to imply that they've had their C through A support convos (you know, the ones where he actually MANAGED to teach her EMPATHY for other LIVING BEINGS!?) The escape to Hoshido's good enough' I guess (kinda confused about the continued open use of names though, ain't that just a massive 'WE'RE RIGHT HERE!' sign though?, surprised it took three years to find them). No Deeprealm badly growth accelator's I see, that's good too... Seeing as this is going on long enough, and been negative enough already, I conclude my opinions here by saying I really don't find any sort of black humor anywhere in the story, some of the character's seem a bit out of it, and then there's the fact that some of the attempts at drama came a little too late and out far to have the full impact they should have, though some other moments do have the just blend of both to balance it out, plus the dialogue between the two main character's does feel natural and in character for them both |
TheFreelancerSeal chapter 1 . 10/31/2017 I found this story today, and I'm stunned by how incredibly well it was written. I've become a bit interested in Laslow and Peri as a pairing of late, and I have to say I feel more than a bit sorry for her. I mean, I never liked her much in game, but the fandom has made me pity her. This was one intense story. There's no other way to say it. I kid you not, I'm actually going to need to find something fluffy to read later just to cheer myself up. I had such hopes that this would end on a happier note, but sometimes, there is no happy ending. I think those are the stories that stick the most. Corrin's desire for revenge was one thing I never expected. With how you wrote him, I'm surprised he didn't force Laslow to serve as Peri's executioner himself. I have to say I think that was quite the approach, since Corrin is depicted as such an upright figure. The moments with them in Hoshido were very touching, made even sadder by Peri's death. I actually thought I might cry with Laslow, having to watch and let my imagination fill in the rest. It was an intense story from start to finish that really hits hard. It's the kind of story I could only bring myself to read once, but it's the kind of work I'm glad to have found. It's also the kind of story I wish I could write myself because this is one of the finest pieces of writing I've ever encountered on the site. Well done. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go cheer myself up. |
robotortoise chapter 1 . 3/5/2017 Holy fuck. Hoooooooooly fuck. This was one of the best fanfictions I have ever read in my life. It was a roller coaster: sad, funny, sad, sadder, funnier, sadder, bittersweet, sad, happy... I don't think I've ever been so happy to have my emotions toyed with like a fucking yo-yo. God, this fic was good. FUCK. I don't even have words. I hate Peri, and I wanted to see her get justice, yet when she married Laslow, I...didn't. I wanted them to be happy, but yet I...didn't. She deserved what she got, and she deserved it sooner. And fuck, I laughed at Felicia being murdered, and the casualness and dark comedy of it. I laughed much less when Flora was involved. Peri's actions were horrifying, yet I managed to feel sympathy for her. That's the make of a great villain. Also, FYI, this fic sparked a giant debate among my friends about Xander's character and whether he would step down as king. So if a fic can provoke discussion, I think it's doing it right. |
Deeludeed chapter 1 . 2/18/2017 This was great. That's all I can really say about this. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I've only discovered your work recently, but you are without a doubt my favorite author on this site. |
Golden Zero16 chapter 1 . 2/13/2017 While it dose feel a bit hypocritical to me to hear Conquest Corrin talk about Justice, it is interesting to see him snap. And this was an interesting fic. |
Yosei Ranbu chapter 1 . 2/13/2017 Man, was this good. The flow was great; everything felt like a natural progression of the story's focal point of "Peri kills Felicia and there are consequences". Characters were all in voice and the humor hit the right beats. I only really have one issue with this story, and that's that I don't think there was quite enough groundwork laid out in the first part. I felt the narrative expected me to take it as a fact that Laslow and Peri are in love and worked from there without giving much reason for this to be the case. (Don't get me wrong, past the breakout the story demonstrates this well, and I was legitimately touched by the ending.) For what is one of the central points of the story, Laslow and Peri's relationship seems underdeveloped prior to them becoming a couple. Maybe a flashback or two would have been in order. Continuing on with "after the fact", Corrin being married to Flora is absolutely something that should have been brought up before Flora is killed. If I'm being cynical, it feels like that detail was added in just to give Corrin sufficient motivation to hunt down Peri. (Which in itself is not a bad decision, it's just something that needs to be implemented carefully.) To not even have a scene where Corrin and Flora console each other over Felicia's death and discuss what to do about Peri seems like an oversight. The Kana reveal also kind of left me scratching my head; a coroner discovering that the victim was pregnant is most certainly information Corrin would have demanded to be included in the trial; it's not a bomb he would wait three years just to drop on Laslow. Similarly, the scene with Charlotte didn't seem to amount to much; the implication that Charlotte can now blackmail Corrin never goes anywhere, and in all honesty Peri's coup de grace can't be justified as self-defense; Flora was already subdued and unarmed. This of course makes Corrin's "high load vs low road" choice far less meaningful, but it could still have nuance if the question becomes about whether or not to conceal information that, theoretically, shouldn't change the outcome of a trial, but carries the potential of causing a faulty verdict to be delivered nonetheless. I hope I'm not sounding too critical with all of this. I really do love this story. For all of these perceived flaws I'm pointing out there are far more lines and details that I think were wonderful. If anything I'm nitpicking; the core of this story is exceptionally strong and the actual writing is executed excellently. (...Ok, one last complaint. Henry really should have been Inigo's father; I'm a sucker for pairing him with Olivia and it plays into the smile theme towards the end.) |
AwakeningFates chapter 1 . 2/12/2017 just. holy shit. I said it more than twice, this is amazing. you took my favorite pairing from Fates, and expanded upon it. I'm sad to see Peri die in the end but I do know that not everyone makes it through in the end. However, I will admit that Corrins reason for hunting them down is justified, if I were in his shoes, I wouldn't have gone through with it. now I just really wish there was alternate endings where it was Laslow who died or they both survive and go to Ylisse with Soleil. |
DearestDissapointment chapter 1 . 2/11/2017 you took Peri and- well, you didn't make her likable, but you did make her a good character with growth and stuff. Nice job |
