Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter, and X-overs. Hi all, I'm just going to list out some of the things about me that I think will give whoever's reading this a sense of who I am. That way, if you read my fics, it'll be from somebody that you at least know a little bit about. I'm 26 years old, male, a law student and living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I like to write original stories and have been published in semi-professional, sometimes known as B-list serials. I started fanfic writing as a way to write "freely" without having to be encumbered by the prospect of churning out publishable material, for, as you all are painfully aware, fanfiction is by definition unpublishable. In short, fanfiction is my way to write free of my "inner editor". Favourite writers: Tim Powers, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Umberto Eco and Salman Rushdie (Can you tell I have an Arts degree?) My sister got me hooked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed. I like to sail on Lake Ontario, I've recently taken up cross-country skiing and spent a week in Colorado as a participant in Ski For Light. I also like ice skating, hiking and, above all else, swimming. I play the guitar, sing classical opera, used to play the bari sax in high school band class. I'm a chocoholic. I'm incredibly lazy and take the path of least resistance. You can usually get me to do things by making me feel inferior to people I dislike. I hate reading fanfics that get dropped; especially by writers who beg for reviews. I like to think fanfiction is a give and take process, where writers bear a bit of responsibility (not much, mind you) for bringing their work to completion for the benefit of their adoring fans. Of course, if there are extenuating circumstances or if enough jerks are running around flaming you, well, that's another story. No one really ought to have to put up with that. Similarly, I think readers have a bit of responsibility to provide feedback, however rudimentary and/or infrequently to the fics they enjoy enough to read through to the end. It's all an honour system thing, though, that said, I'm not really invested in the issue all that much. We're all sitting around plagiarizing someone else's stuff anyway. No honour among thieves, and all that. Okay bye bye. |
