Post-series. Some men are just gluttons for punishment; Newkirk stayed in the service... and in the spy business. He's good at what he does, and he's done a lot of good. But everyone's luck runs out eventually. Dead heroes sometimes rate a statue in the park, but that isn't much consolation for anyone concerned. (Re-titled, formerly If The Sun Don't Come.)

2020 Speedwriting Challenge. What's in a name, really? And identity is a slippery, complicated thing. How would you go about proving that a man calling himself 'Colonel Hogan,' wearing his clothes and ID tag, is really someone else entirely? If no one else sees the difference... IS there any difference? Don't ask Schultz; he doesn't want to discuss the matter any further.

2020 Speedwriting Challenge. The right story, at the right time, in the right words, can change the world. Hogan knew that from the start. Now, long after the war, he's considering writing his memoirs. Because some stories do need to be told, and some worlds do need to be changed. And he always was good with words.

Mail, for the heroes, is a lifeline, the one fragile thread connecting them to the world outside the wire. And for their families, it's the one proof they have that their sons and brothers are still alive, still themselves, even in the harshest of circumstances. Both sides are being encouraging, reassuring, cheery... and, if not actually lying, perhaps embroidering the truth a bit.

If the Stalag 13 Glee Club didn't *want* Newkirk to sing Gilbert and Sullivan, then they shouldn't have *asked* him to sing Gilbert and Sullivan. A wandering minstrel he; the other POWs got a bit more than they'd bargained for, and they've no one to blame but themselves.

Post-war. Newkirk, by now a well-known and respected member of the intelligence community, has, in the spirit of international cooperation and goodwill, been called on to work with a similarly prestigious team of spies from across the ocean. A Smart move for all concerned. KAOS isn't going to know what hit 'em.

For the 'How Did Schultz Lose His Pass' challenge. Inspired by a forum discussion. Schultz has had his share of bad luck, and has lost more three-day passes than he cares to remember. These are some of them. War really is hell... especially when you're trying to guard Hogan and his crew.

A meditation and a memorial for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Sometimes heroism isn't enough. Sometimes there are questions that no one can answer. Sometimes there's just nothing to say except 'Never again.'

As the war winds to a close, there are things the men of Stalag 13 will want to forget. There are things they will want to hold on to. There are wounds that will never fully close. And there are medicines that work better than anyone could have expected. Some things are all of the above. 2020 PBA winner.

Challenge #375: Christmas Cheer. Christmas in Stalag 13 isn't much like it is back home, and no one can really pretend otherwise. The Colonel doesn't have the luxury of letting his homesickness get the better of him; that doesn't mean he doesn't feel it. The prisoner with the heaviest chain to bear has to bear it all alone. Episode tag to 'Cuisine a la Stalag 13.' LeBeau came back because he had to. He's not happy about that- not happy about a lot of things, really. Including his own behavior. He's got a lot of thinking to do, and a lot of decisions to make. He needs to process, to readjust, and that takes time and privacy. Naturally, he's not going to get either.

Long, long after the stalags were abandoned, long after World War II had become a matter for history books and old men's memories, an ex-POW, when asked what he had done during the war, looked down at his granddaughter and realized that he didn't quite have a ready answer. Truth is a slippery, elusive thing.

Speedwriting challenge 2019. Nothing in Stalag 13 was ever quite what it seemed. Nothing ... and no one. Hogan should have known that better than anyone. When attempting to make a man's acquaintance, heavy cell doors and cement walls are child's play compared to language barriers. But when the men in question are Cpls LeBeau and Newkirk, where *would* they meet but in the cooler? Two prisoners, both emotionally raw, are going to need each other if they're going to have any chance of surviving... whether they like it or not. 2019 PBA

A Russian spy on the island? And one that looks exactly like Gilligan? That's more than nonsensical; it's downright crazy... or is it? The castaways aren't sure what's going on, or who is who, or how much of any of it to believe. Continuation of 'Gilligan vs. Gilligan.'

Music is usually deeply interwoven with memory. Quill's music collection is very much a part of him, very evocative of his past and his Terran family. It turns out that he's not the only one for whom those tunes bring back a lot of memories.

2018 Speedwriting Challenge. A kaleidoscope of images from another one of *those* missions. The sort the heroes never, ever want to remember, analyze, or otherwise discuss, and, frankly, they're still not quite sure how any of it happened. You know. One of THOSE missions. It's rather amazing how many of those missions involve a certain Russian agent, isn't it? 2019 PBA medalist.

Written for the 2018 Speedwriting Challenge. Some flames are too bright to last very long, and there's never enough time to appreciate that light before it's gone. A person can make it through only so many close calls, and in wartime, one can burn through all their allotted miracles far sooner than later. A glimpse at a horrifying possibility.

Today's mission, Hogan decided, calls for a pretty fraulein. More's the pity, they're in fairly short supply in Stalag 13, and there isn't time to borrow one from the Underground. Guess who draws the short straw... and the metaphorical booby prize. Fortunately, Carter's there to relieve at least a bit of the tension, one way or the other. 2019 PBA medalist.

They've got files of maps, codes, contact lists, and all sorts of other information. Spies need that stuff; those files are meant to be used, to be read and digested. And then there's the one file that they hope no one ever has to see. It's no secret that Newkirk can't seem to leave the just-in-case file alone; no one quite realized just why that was. Christmas in the barracks. Well, what can you say? There's certainly more than enough snow, and a whole forest of evergreens not that far away, and there's always a carol or two to be sung. But not everyone is feeling particularly merry. 2019 PBA medalist.

Newkirk: Sir? You haven't been here five years. How do you know what Schultz was like? Hogan: Oh, I overheard the entire story... As I was telling it to you. Well, what *was* Schultz like, five years ago? How did Stalag 13 mold him into the man he became? One possible answer. Warning: contains references to adult themes, and the abuses and cruelties of war and captivity. Dark.

Hemming trousers is not intrinsically interesting. Watching someone else hem is less so. Chatting to pass the time isn't just pleasant; it's necessary, especially for quiet types like Hogan and Newkirk. Just a rambling conversation, including such topics as privacy, projectile weaponry, carnivals, costumes, military training procedure, and why man's best friend isn't always a dog.

Episode tag to 'The Well.' The secret documents have been retrieved from the bottom of the well, and so has Carter, but all is not yet well in Stalag 13. Since when does Carter get angry? Since when does he snap bitter comments at Hogan? No question; something is very wrong, and it's up to an unlikely therapist to find out just what it is.

The main thing to remember is that, in the end, the mission was a success. There's really no need to go over all the little details of who did what, whether or not the instructions were clear, who said they would handle that one crucial step, or why, precisely, someone ended up half-naked. Is there? No, I didn't think so. Let's hope Hogan doesn't, either. Drabble.

A missing scene from 'Hogan, Go Home.' For the men of Barracks 2, the prospect of losing the Colonel is a tragedy; the prospect of getting Crittendon instead is a horror. For Hogan, the prospect of freedom is a dream come true; the prospect of leaving his men behind is a nightmare. The prospects were grim enough for all concerned *before* Crittendon set their clothing aflame...

Character study; 1,000 word vignette. Thurston Howell's thoughts as he sits on the beach that first morning, contemplating his past and his future, the promises he'd made and the resolutions he'd forgotten. New beginnings and lackluster middles. The weight of other people's expectations and assumptions. He's facing his own harshest critic.

For the 2017 Speedwriting challenge. They say that mirrors can only reflect, only show us who we truly are... and it's a lie. You can choose to be the man your circumstances want to create; you can choose to emulate those around you, and fit yourself seamlessly into the mold. The path of least resistance is often easy. But there are other options, and it is your choice to make.

Carter wasn't trying to stir up old ghosts. But when when he stumbled on the rip in Newkirk's mattress and the secret it held, that was precisely what he did. Freedom comes in a lot of different guises, not all of which are kind, and hope can be found in the unlikeliest of places. 2018 PBA winner.

Losing family is never, ever easy, and there's something obscene about having to rummage through and pack away their personal effects. The questions they leave behind are even harder to handle. A young man, still reeling from the shock of a sudden loss, finds comfort, and, perhaps, closure while on a trip to Hawaii he never wanted to take.

A simple pleasure cruise strands seven ordinary people in a tropical nightmare, and even after being rescued, the darkness that engulfed them will not be denied. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but that is very little comfort once the crisis is past and only the memories remain. How far down does the veneer of civilization really go? Darkfic. (But it gets better.)

Hunterfic. Man truly is the most dangerous game, and the most lethal of his weapons are almost never the ones that confine themselves to inflicting mere bodily harm. The hunt may be over, and Jonathan Kinkaid may no longer be on the island, but he is by no means gone.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, and there's usually a story behind even such oddities as the world's least appetizing-sounding baked goods. Stories can explain a lot, if you listen carefully enough, and Mary Ann discovers a bit more than she might have expected while she and a friend wait for a pie to cool.

Tensions are running high on the island, and everything comes to a head when a truly memorable argument breaks out over the dinner table. Terrible, horrible things are said. Battle lines are drawn. And the best laid plans of mice, men, and castaways gang aft agley. Very, very, *very* agley.

The castaways have a new rescue scheme, and this one's bound to work... but in the meantime, a chance remark leads the Skipper to reminisce about his Navy days, and his meeting with a certain young recruit. And when their scheme fails, as they invariably do, the Skipper travels a bit further down Memory Lane, and not everything he finds there is sweet.

Wrongway Feldman. A legend in his own time. He's probably the worst navigator in the history of aviation. Possibly a bit mad. A walking- er, flying- disaster. One of the few people the castaways ever met with the distinction of disappointing them *twice.* This is his side of the story.

Sometimes it's not that easy to figure out just who we are, or where we fit. It's not a simple question, and there's rarely a simple answer. Mary Ann doesn't have a pat label, like most of her fellows do, and she has to decide for herself just who- and what- she wants to be. But nobody ever said she had to do it alone.

Music, they say, hath charms to soothe the savage beast. It may not do much for tropical storms, but it turns out that it hath charms to soothe the savage castaway, too. Riding out yet another storm, it's up to Gilligan to salvage morale.

The radio is quite possibly the most valuable of their material possessions. It's the single remaining thread they have to connect them with the world they've left behind, and each of the seven castaways listens to it in their own way and for their own reasons. Character study.

The Skipper's thoughts as he stands at the helm of his crippled ship in the middle of an uncaring ocean. They're alone out there, drifting and helpless; it's just him, reflecting on his ruined ship, the six lives for which he's responsible and the fact that there's not a single thing he can do... except stay strong.

The turtle races were, perhaps, a bit more illuminating than was strictly comfortable, and taking a good hard look at oneself is rarely pleasant. A series of drabbles illustrating different aspects of the races and their effects on the various characters. Episode tag to 'They're Off and Running.'

Mrs. Eunice Howell has had, all things considered, a charmed life. She has always been wealthy, and cosseted, and spoiled, first by doting parents, then by a loving husband. She has never been denied anything she needed or wanted. Except for the one thing that mattered. Episode tag to 'My Fair Gilligan.'

The Maritime Board may have cleared the Skipper of blame for the shipwreck, but that doesn't mean that there still aren't questions to be answered. And there is a vast difference between blame and responsibility; they don't always go in tandem. Who is really to blame for their plight? And what does it really mean to 'take responsibility?

Gilligan's infamous diary, and the secrets it contained, came close to driving his fellow castaways utterly mad. His strategy for making amends seems likely to finish the job. Episode tag to 'Diogenes, Won't You Please Go Home.'

Chess is the game of kings. A thinking man's game. A battle of wits; warfare writ small. The Professor gets a bit more than he bargained for when he undertakes to teach the rudiments of his favorite game... to Gilligan.

Set during 'Rescue from Gilligan's Island.' It's the castaways' first night back in civilization... and maybe, just maybe, civilization isn't all it's cracked up to be. Old habits die hard, and fifteen years is a long time.
