Author has written 5 stories for How to Train Your Dragon, Alex Rider, and Hobbit. Hey. Well, I seem to be unable to write a profile that doesn't make me cringe. Ever. So here are some words. I'm not actually Canadian - many people seem to ask this given my user name, but nope. I just like maple syrup and leaves. Canada seems pretty cool too though. I suck at finishing multichapter stories, though I try... and boy am I trying right now. I'm terrible at writing down plot ideas so am resigned to having 6 plots (along with their accompanying flashes of scene and character arc inspiration) dancing around my brain at various intervals. I get all my best ideas while brushing my teeth. I don't know why. I adore doing NaNoWriMo and Camp NaNo with my lil group of writing buddies - the communal feel makes it feel like less of a death slog while editing Wings at the moment. Aaaand yeah... Hurrah. So if you're feeling brave, feel free to have a read of my old lousy oneshots written by my 13 year old self (I wouldn't recommend). Read on for some word counts and my pitiful update log on Wings: NaNoWriMo/Camp NaNo Word Counts: UPDATES ON WINGS: UPDATE (17th Oct '16): After working heavily for the last ten days I now have about 6 new chapters of Wings and have finished re-editing Chapters 1-4. The editing process has taken me far longer than I anticipated because of how much work is needed, therefore I'm now running up against various other deadlines that I really need to keep on top of. Am going to keep working on it for as long as I can before needing to move on, as such I can't guarantee when exactly the update will come, but if it isn't in the next week then it'll be either mid-late December or early January, depending on my other projects. I know I said I'd try and get an update out before a year has passed (ew - how does time even work) and believe me, this is less than ideal, but I have to put my upcoming projects as my priority. UPDATE (27th March '17): Alright, I really need to stop trying to give time frames for when updates will be out... Ugh. ANYWAY - I have some news, not much, but some. I have revised versions of Chapters 1-7 all done and pretty much ready to go after a final proof read, however I want to revise Chapters 8-10 and then 11-16 DEFINITELY need some critical rereading to be done before publishing. Camp NaNoWriMo starts on 1st April so my aim is to *at the very least* get it in a fit state to do one bulk update of the revised chapters and Chapter 11 followed by fortnightly updates of Chapters 12-17. SO. The likelihood of there being no update by 1st May is very slim. But I just said I really need to stop giving time frames for updates... Damn. UPDATE (1st May '17): Okay so overall editing is going well, Chapters 8 and 10 are done, and 1-7 have been polished. However after going into Chapter 11 to read through so that I could go back and edit Chapter 9, I realised that given the changes that I've made to certain characters thought processes and emotional reactions, particularly in Chapters 8 and 10, I now need to edit the chapters going forwards more intensely than I had anticipated in order to keep things consistent. It is on its way however, and I can see myself being ready to update fairly soon, although whether I do immediately or not depends on how I can foresee update consistency being in future and whether it would be better to wait until I have made some headway in editing Chapter 12 etc. UPDATE (9th June '17): Ughh. Okay. No promises, no speculation, laying all the cards on the table. I haven't had time to write in just over a month and, honestly, I'm not 100% sure when that's going to change. I've had a couple of big projects to work on, one of which took waaaay longer than expected, which has now thrown everything else out and left me running quite behind on a couple of things (some of which I've managed to sort out (yay)). HOWEVER. Although there are about 6 different writing projects that I would love to work on once I've cleared this backlog, Wings IS on the top of that list and I fully intend to work on it until it's either finished or the wheels are well and truly moving. I did just look into the document at where I got up to with editing Chapter 11 and there is still a rather depressing amount of work to go, but I'm determined to get through it and will update when I'm able. UPDATE (6th Nov '17): After a fairly tumultuous few months (family bereavement etc) I'm back to editing and just wanted to put a quick update because I'm VERY excited right now for two reasons. 1 - It's NaNoWriMo which is just... just wonderful (even though I'm editing this month instead of writing a fresh story which isn't nearly as fun). 2 - I've just finished rewriting Chapter 9 of Wings, which only leaves a reasonably short bit at the end of Chapter 11, plus some proof reading, AND THEN I can do my massive update that I've been working on for 13 months now. So yeah. Rather exciting times. UPDATE (16th Nov '17): So tired but tentatively excited. After spending around nine hours proof reading today I'm fairrrly confident I'll be putting out the update tomorrow. I just need to triple check the end of Chapter 11 and then it should be ready. And then onto reworking Chapters 12-16. And then... finish the story... UPDATE (17th Nov '17): Okay it's going to be tomorrow - had a friend ask me for help editing an application statement and I have a cold and needed to finish off the end of Chapter 11 so that's my excuse. UPDATE (3rd Jan '18): Hehey - Happy New Year! I'm not quite sure where December got to but here we are anyway. Just wanted to put a quick note saying that Chapter 12 is almost complete, I think it's just the tail end of the last scene that needs finishing and then a thorough proof read before posting. However Christmas has left me in a bit of a spin so it's going to take a week or so to get back into the swing of things and figure out where I am again. Hoping it should be sorted by the end of the month. UPDATE (4th April '18): Just a short update to say - I'm not sure when I'll next be updating, my dog has been really ill so stuff has been kinda all over the place right now. UPDATE (6th Aug '18): I'm back at it - between a very ill dog, some commissioned work, some long projects, a party and a roadtrip, I'm not entirely sure where the last few months have gotten to, but I'm now continuing to work my way through Chapter 12. Some events towards the end of the chapter are proving rather difficult to smooth out, however, progress is being made. UPDATE (22 Sep '18): I've finally *finally* finished rewriting the end of Chapter 12 - all that remains is to let my friend critique a few bits I need help with and then a final proof read then it's done! Won't bother giving an exact time estimate - I gave up on that a long time ago, but I am hopeful! |
