![]() Author has written 4 stories for Naruto. Hey There! I've just posted my first story 'Midnight Sun' so thought maybe I should get around to updating my profile! I go by the title Winnieflutters, I'm a 21 year old female Londoner and a huge Naruto fan. My big three things have got to be the colour grey, reading and lasagne (seriously, I could eat that stuff around the clock). I suppose I should make a small list of things I like so I'll break it down into categories! Anime/Cartoon: Naruto Pokemon Beyblade Avatar: The Last Airbender Death Note Card Captor Sakura Movies/Television Game of Thrones Merlin (BBC version with John Hurt voicing the dragon) Buffy NCIS The Lord Of The Rings Harry Potter The Hangover Bourne The Matrix The Godfather Kill Bill The Devil Wears Prada Back To The Future Memoirs Of A Geisha The Cornetto Trilogy ... Okay I will stop there before I get carried away. Music Disturbed Linkin Park KoRn Avenged Sevenfold Mariah Carey Breaking Benjamin Evanescence Limp Bizkit Muse Slipknot Skindred ... Okay I should stop again. Fave Naruto Characters Anko Ibiki Neji Tsunade Haku Minato Ma & Pa Gaara Mabui And lastly.. Guren. When it comes to fanfiction, I'll give anything a try and if the story is well written I'll more likely than not stick around to see how things progress. I see fanfiction as being in someone else's dreams and I find it fascinating to see what other's will do with a familiar story. That being said, I can be quite unfair towards stories where Naruto starts sprouting fluffy ears and a tail and marries 10 different women by the age of 11. I'll read some yaoi if there's an actual plot to the story but that's the same as non yaoi anyway.. I hate when it's just lovey dovey unrealistic romance all the way through with no real substance at all. I like to think that I am a fair critic, I don't like flames just because if you're gonna go to all that effort of criticising someone else's work.. I believe you can at least offer something constructive, I have read some absolute crap before and rather than write horrible things I will either try to encourage the person to do read over their work and reconsider certain elements or I won't say anything at all- just the way I am. I'm not the best writer, I do get carried away and forget commas and the like but I like to make an effort to proof read and make things flow. For now that's enough about me, I always respond to PM's when people wanna talk more so feel free to start a chat with me! Winnieflutters Dear Midnight Sun Readers, Here are some character explanations, if you want any other characters explained better, PM me or leave a review somewhere in the story. Naruto- This one is perhaps the most confusing for you all by the look of things. The reason why Naruto displays so many inconsistencies in his attitude is because he is slowly losing a part of who he was in Root before joining the regular forces. You have to remember that he was trained differently from the other Root shinobi, I cannot stress it enough. Danzō wouldn't want a mindless drone to be Hokage and there's no way a standard Root shinobi would ever make it to Hokage anyway. If Naruto were just completing Root missions in this fic then he wouldn't be stopping to think as much about his actions, only about obeying orders. However, he has been instructed to merge who he is as a Root shinobi with who he has to be as a regular shinobi and it just isn't that simple. He is trying to retrain himself to somehow think like both a Root Shinobi and a Hokage Candidate. That is what this fic is about, about him leaving Root behind but taking the values at it's core right to the top with him. It's not meant to be as black and white as “Dark, Strong Naruto rises through the regular ranks to take over Konoha- then we would end up with an Orochimaru type character. Not what I'm going for. Danzo- It annoys me when Danzo is only portrayed as some evil spreading throughout the village, in my fic he's a shinobi that comes from a time where everything was done for the village and nothing was unquestionable. Where people like the Sandaime have somewhat given in to changing times, Danzo is supposed to represent that cut throat mindset of the before times. I don't want to portray him as someone that just wants to usurp the Hokage for his own greed and take the mantle for himself, I just want him to be that obsessed war hawk that doesn't just want Konoha to be thriving now but forever- hence the desire to instil his beliefs in Naruto. Yes Danzo has lost himself somewhat along the way but that's the thing with power, it often comes with some corruption. Again, I don't like that evil vs good thing .. I prefer my characters to be somewhere along a scale rather than firmly to one side. Kyoko- Okay she's a tricky one to explain because it's clear I've made a few mistakes with her as of late. She represents what Naruto has to escape, if he were to remain in Root completely he would slowly turn into her- consumed by the dark side essentially. She's the sort of person that thrives in Danzo's world, she doesn't have enough compassionate bones in her body to care much about what is asked of her. A couple people have said she's running the risk of turning into a Mary Sue and I can see why. She's powerful, she's powerful because I wanted Naruto to have a strong teacher, that's it really and she's high in Danzo's ranks because my Danzo isn't the kind of person that would trust Naruto's training to an average shinobi. I limited her strength to Fuinjutsu and Kenjutsu and thought that would be enough.. I know a lot of writers try hard not to write strong characters because of the “mary sue” flames but being strong isn't enough to label a character a mary-sue.. she's not inexplicably strong or almighty or involved in the main story so I don't see the big deal there. Next, the whole thing with her being feared in Root goes back to her being immersed in it's dark side.. Most the shinobi there are trained to be emotionless so I liked the idea of them not being able to understand someone like her who is just..such a bitch. I was going more for how Anko is often written as being creepy but I might not have done it well enough. Lastly, I said she wouldn't be in it much and.. she's not. What I meant was she's not in it for long but I didn't want to use the word long to give away that her character fades out, is it really too much that Naruto's sensei is around a bit more in the beginning of the story and crops up here and there after that? Hiruzen- Now he's also a tricky one! I said earlier that he's given in slightly to changing times but as shown by the incident with the Fire Lord, the old him is still there somewhere. He's a man who is also conflicted because he wants to do right by Minato's son on a personal level but has duties to the village as a Kage. Root's existence in this fic isn't the secret- Naruto's membership is. The Sandaime publicly disbanded Root but he and all the higher ups (and most the shinobi) know it still exists and most agree it should. He knows Root is not the enemy, he fully agrees with the existence of the division it's just Danzo he doesn't trust as far as he can throw. When he realises Danzo has a powerful assassin under his control he wants the kid dead but when it's Naruto, someone he knows personally on some level rather than a random shinobi, he sees a chance to make the weapon his but his shock at failing Minato's son on a personal level gets to him first. I hope that makes sense? Kurama- Don't we all love the Kyuubi? He's an interesting character in this story because for the most part he doesn't get involved. He enjoys watching Naruto kill mercilessly and embrace the dark side of his personality but over time he develops a sort of friendship with him. He too believes that Naruto can go far and, in his own way, he tries to help him merge Tatsuru and Naruto into one. He is an intelligent being and he knows that Naruto is struggling with when to be Naruto and when to be Tatsuru. Take the situation with Hinata, it's not something that would concern Tatsuru at first but the Kyuubi knows that if Naruto can't deal with one suicidal little girl then he has no hope at leading a village. He doesn't like to see Naruto displaying weakness though, he knows that the kid can't display his true power around the regular forces straight away so often gets frustrated at the lack of action. He wants to encourage Naruto to rise quickly through the ranks to Jounin to make it easier to act freely with his true strength and put an end to the Kyuubi's boredom at watching him do D ranks and miss out on awesome Root missions. Lastly, the story as a whole- There are times when it is dark and times when it's light and there's joking around because life isn't so straightforward. Think of the army.. They are a harshly trained military but they still go home and drink and they have friends and they buy prostitutes or whatever because they aren't robots. So when you see Anko and Naruto having a laugh or when Shisui and Naruto had their little moments, it's just showing that there are human sides to characters. The Anime does it too where you have those funny times where silly little things will happen because it's normal. For those of you that want a purely dark Naruto- you're in the wrong place. Sorry. So yeah, any more questions or disagreements I am more than happy to debate it in a PM. As quite a few of you can vouch for, I don't get angry at criticism very easily and I like to see both sides of the argument. Thanks for reading, Winnieflutters |
