![]() Author has written 35 stories for Supernatural. 7/23/2012 My deepest apologies for any who might be waiting on updates to my stories. After posting three chapters in a row that got no reviews at all I am rather discouraged, especially after FF deleted my longest and most reviewed story "Castiel Grows Up". Muses tend to wither away when they think no one loves them, so I am am taking a break from both reading and writing them to see if she comes back. I suspect it is simply that "sex sells" and I write most of my stories straight up Gen/Het. Too boring I guess. Anyway if I post again it will most likely be on AO3. I will have the same UN so you can find me if you want to. A Guest review recently posited that I'm too focused on reviews and asked what happened to the joy of writing just for the enjoyment... well the simple facts are these: If spend hours/days/weeks writing something in the little spare time I have and keep it only for myself (and I do have many stories that I have never published) THAT's writing for the enjoyment of it. If I spend the few spare hours I have in a day writing something and post it here, then I have an expectation that a reader who enjoys my story will return the favor by offering their thoughts...else there would not be a review system set up. It's hard to write in a vacuum, especially when you have no idea if anyone even cares if you write or not. It takes time to import and publish the stories...time I could spend writing for my own enjoyment...but I spend that extra time for the people that might like to read it. If that doesn't explain it well enough then put yourself in my place. A fic appears that is one long paragraph, the word "angel" is spelled "angle" in every instance, there is no plot, horrid grammar, spell-check obviously wasn't used, and every sentence runs on like this one, and you can barely read the story much less understand it. This fic gets hundreds of reviews gushing about how good it is and I get none when I post something I'm proud of. It stings a bit, and lessens the joy of writing. I'm not looking for gushing reviews on every story, I'm not even looking for all positive reviews. I'm looking for feedback...pure and simple. Don't like it? Tell me...tell me WHY you don't like it. Bad grammar? Tell me, I'm trying to learn. Misspelled word? Tell me and I'll fix it. I've always been more of a science geek and writing is not something that came easily to me. I want to know what I'm doing right...and what I'm doing wrong. |
