![]() Author has written 18 stories for American Girl, Star Trek: 2009, Tangled, Call of Duty, Bible, and Judy Moody. COMMANDER CODY FANFICTION PROFILE INTRO About Your Author My name is David. I am a retired fanfiction writer; "retired" in the sense that I am not writing fanfiction on an everyday schedule, due to my concentration on school and my other novel project. I will still write fan works, though the writing will not be frequent, as had been the case in the past. Because my story plots become more interconnected, I will release fan works only until said works are fully complete. Outside academics, I am working on a novel project of my own, and soon, I hope to publish the first book of my series. TRIVIA: One of many hobbies involves the occasional watching of anime series. With anime, I have a greater preference for the subtitled versions and the Japanese audio, since the English Dub versions, for me, are not just awkward to watch, but also leave much context of Japanese language and culture lost amid conversations. My choices of anime series are limited, however, due to time constraints, and preference of genre. I owe my introduction to anime to my younger sister, Maria, who has had an interest in the Japanese culture for years. Another hobby involves tinkering and building gaming computers, but due to the high cost of premium parts, I can only exercise this hobby on a rare basis. I also enjoy playing the piano and organ, and sometimes I take an opportunity to play both instruments when I can. The Efforts in Writing Excellent Fan Works With serious fanfiction, the goal involves not just entertaining an audience, but also edifying. Often in the drama of a story, there is a lesson of life to be learned as the reader progresses through the story, and this lesson becomes part of the drama of life that a story’s characters go through. But with these works of fanfiction comes the grim fact that these things take more effort than I previously anticipated. On average, it can take about six months just to write a fan work that spans more than twenty chapters, if I put my mind into the project. Such progress is often impeded by schoolwork, or writer’s block, which can become frustrating at times. The First of Many Fan-Works The origins of my storytelling leaned on one heavy concentration: America’s colonial period during its war for independence from Britain, and were concentrated in the series of Felicity the American Girl; the series for young readers composed by its wonderful author, Valerie Tripp. The main focus of Felicity fans is the main character striking up a deep, intimate relationship with Ben Davidson. Many fans of the series have devoted much time and attention to this relationship, and I’ve done the same, as I have found it both entertaining and inspirational. Much of writing fan works is more than just writing down what the readers wish would happen; it is the exploration of possible futures opened up, left to readers’ imagination to uncover and share. It is interpreting the original work to predict the future or discern the past of canon characters and analyzing how these characters would behave in new environments as fan writers take up the mantle of the works’ original writers. In keeping with this essential philosophy, I believe in the importance of keeping the characters of the fan work as close to reality or the originals as possible in behavior and speech, and I researched that period to fill in some of the gaps regarding culture, which included reading works written in the 1700s and the 1800s. My residence in Virginia aided my work immensely, as Virginia was a very historic place, filled with colonial history (and even a lot of American Civil War history). Mrs. Tripp was able to tour Williamsburg, which influenced much of her writing the series. Having lived in Virginia, I found it possible to connect, in some way, with the environment of Felicity because Virginia was her home state in the colonial era. The weather was different back in the colonial period; Felicity’s period took place in the Little Ice Age; today our climate seems to be a little pleasant compared to the past. I crossed the Felicity series with Star Trek, as I was curious to see how people from the 1700s would interact with people, places, and things set in the 24th century. Some of my works on Felicity have some derivation of ideas from the Firefly TV series, of which I still take a great interest in even now. The Present The works of Commander Cody have become varied with the passage of time, and some include the crossing of Judy Moody with the Call of Duty series, and two works on Disney’s Tangled, as well as the Bible in one fan-work (a parody, but one in good taste, just so readers know). Commander Cody’s Strengths and Weaknesses Before you begin to check out some of my work, I should probably tell you what to expect from my style of writing. I attempts are works that are serious, thoughtful, dramatic: writing that covers timeless themes in the human experience; cover romantic drama and emotionally depressing characteristics. Though none of my works would warrant R-Rating, I try to appeal to a different level of complexity, and make the general assumption that my audience is of mature mind to reflect deeply on what they have read, though sometimes that assumption may be shown the contrary. I always try to end my stories on a hopeful note with disguised optimism. NOW COMPLETE! Star Trek: The Next Generation – Souvenirs (A Felicity Fanfic) (a.k.a. STAR TREK XII or “Felicity Merriman and the Enterprise-D”) This literary work of fanfiction involves a crossover of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Felicity: An American Girl. In the Star Trek universe, the story takes place in the early to mid-24th Century, on stardate 48766.1 (regular date is April 11, 2370), almost after the ST-TNG episode All Good Things. In Felicity Merriman’s world, the story takes place on April 2, 1776, prior to the events of Traitor in Williamsburg. Felicity, her sister, Nan, her brother, William, her friend, Elizabeth, and the family apprentice, Ben, are abducted by an alien race. In a series of harrowing events, the five end up on board the Enterprise. They have many thrilling moments on board the Enterprise, encountering new technological amenities and new people, while trying to retain their cultural identity. But behind this adventurous visit lies an ever-present threat to the known galaxy not only to the Enterprise, but to the five youngsters. It is only a matter of time before each of the children must put aside their political differences of their time as they band together to survive the invasion of a cyborg race on a ruthless mission to assimilate all life in the known galaxy. They encounter an advanced alien race, the Enterprise and her diverse crew, a race of cyborgs on a ruthless mission assimilating them, and a beloved starship chaplain devoted to protecting the children's lives. Star Trek TNG: Souvenirs has a similar beginning of a story from Chronicles of Narnia, except the story involves a time-jump eight centuries into the future from 1776 and back. It is a Star Trek TNG/American Girl crossover adventure and sci-fi story of friendship, loyalty, conflict, survival, and uncommon valor in the face of danger on the part of children. Souvenirs has not been edited for a second time years after its last chapter release, so this story will come off as hokey, cliché, and awkward for many people. This epic fan-work boasts of sixty-eight chapters, plus eight" chapters" devoted to alternate/deleted story scenes, a questionnaire answer section, and acknowledgments! NOW OFFICIALLY RELEASED! Commander Cody CC-2224's short novelettes (Novelettes arranged in chronological order of their official releases) SERIES: FELICITY THE AMERICAN GIRL The Last Child in Williamsburg (Alternate Universe) Felicity Merriman is the last surviving colonial child to ever inhabit the town of Williamsburg, Virginia, after the occurrence of an 18th century pandemic apocalypse in the Thirteen Colonies when the town is under military quarantine. Along with her beloved horse, Penny, who is her sole companion, each of them must maintain an ever-vigilant watch for the remaining townsfolk, whose animal instincts have taken over them, leaving them bereft without rational thought and mercy. They must also be on the lookout for themselves. But will Felicity continue her bleak existence, bereft of all welcoming human companionship? An Alternate Universe fanfic depicting a tragic theme of Felicity the American Girl. Inspired by the movie I Am Legend. Benstown Benstown is Felicity adventure story with an adventurous flick. Felicity Merriman’s engaged and beloved Benjamin Davidson, who formerly served in Washington’s Army as a sergeant in the Fifth Regiment, a subdivision of Col. Henry Lee’s Legion operating as a wartime special assignments organization, is still finishing his apprenticeship with Felicity’s father. Ben is hailed as the town hero in Charles Town, South Carolina, while Felicity’s father is involved in a business venture in the town. Ben’s situation is the end result of his former involvement in a previous heist gone awry during the latter years of the war against Britain. And Felicity herself seems to be quite thrilled about it, until Ben gets a too carried away, and until Ben winds up in a deadly conflict against a former comrade in the Fifth Regiment during the heist. Inspired by the Firefly TV Series episode Jaynestown. Young Benjamin Davidson The story of Benjamin Davidson and how he became the beloved lad that we know today in the Felicity: an American Girl series. Young Benjamin Davidson narrates Ben’s childhood from infancy to the early part of his teenage years in a semi-accelerated approach. Witness how the interesting events of his childhood have shaped him into the character that we know, and how his childhood influences greatly coincide with, and foreshadow, the characteristics that you will see in the rest of the Felicity series books. The sequel to one of Valerie Tripp’s unique literary creations ever written in the backdrop of colonial America. Duel For You, Ben Davidson The prequel to the previously released Benstown. Duel For You, Ben Davidson narrates another story of Felicity Merriman’s and her engaged and beloved Benjamin Davidson, who formerly served in the Continental Army as a sergeant in the Fifth Regiment, a subdivision of Col. Henry Lee’s Legion operating as a wartime special assignments organization, and is still finishing his apprenticeship with Felicity’s father. Duel tells the story of Ben Davidson having his participation at a grand ball in Richmond transformed into a duel in defense of her honor and his romantic prospect with Felicity. Duel will keep you in a flux that entails you getting gripped to your seat (while reading from the pages or a book or on a computer screen) or in a relaxed mood. The story brings into life new interesting characters; some from the imagination of the author, and others recalled from the Felicity series books written by Valerie Tripp, including two of the Felicity books written by Elizabeth McDavid Jones: Traitor in Williamsburg and Lady Margaret’s Ghost. Inspired by the Firefly TV Series episode Shindig. Story title derived from a famous quote about T.R.: “Bully for You, Teddy Roosevelt.” The Wedding of Felicity and Ben This wedding story of Felicity Merriman and Benjamin Davidson is supposed to be the culmination of most of the Lissie and Ben stories that take place in the post-Revolutionary War era. For four agonizing years she had waited for Ben. Now, Felicity and Ben are finally getting married! Their marriage ceremony involves nearly the entire community of Williamsburg, as the town itself is close-knit. His Excellency’s Orders Remember Ben Davidson, the character from the Felicity the American Girl Series? His Excellency's Orders features a glimpse of Ben Davidson's participation in the American War for Independence. Rather than featuring Ben as a common soldier in Washington's Army the way most fanfics about Lissie and Ben seem to have done, this fanfic takes a radical step featuring Ben participate in a special tasks branch in Washington's Army known as the Fifth Regiment. This epic fan work features Lissie and Ben, and it also...briefly...features a reprise cast of all the characters we have read about in the Felicity the American Girl series. We get to see Lissie and Ben's children, and those of Elizabeth and Phillip Michaels, previously featured in "Duel For You, Ben Davidson". As the children of Lissie and Ben and Elizabeth and Phillip listen with rapt attention to Ben's storytelling, we get a glimpse of what it is like for Ben and his two trusty comrades, Walter Wheaton and Matthew Brady, to operate behind enemy lines. When Ben and his comrades are assigned on a sabotage-and-rescue mission by His Excellency, General George Washington, the stakes in securing the freedom of the Thirteen Colonies have never been higher. Will Ben and his comrades succeed in pulling off this double-assignment? FELICITY PARODIES I had written these parodies with less than exemplary skill. The art of humor is not exactly my strong point. Read at your own risk. SERIES: TANGLED A Dangerous Treasure This is Commander Cody’s first fanfic work based on the Tangled film. This fan work features Flynn Rider’s first encounter with Mother Gothel for the first time. Flynn unburdens to Rapunzel a horrible moment in his life that took place during his days as a soldier-of-fortune. He details how he, along with the Stabbington Brothers, first encountered that devious woman on a search party. But is Mother Gothel just an eccentric, innocent woman, or does she have a devious plan involving Flynn himself? Story inspired by Treyarch’s latest cinematic videogame of the Call of Duty series titled Call of Duty: Black Ops. Only two chapters long, so that makes for easy reading! Entangled in Plague Set five years later after the events of the Tangled film, Flynn Rider tells the story of how he disarmed a dangerous Plague Device in Corona’s Capital City to his five-year-old daughter Daphne. This royal commission from the King and Queen of Corona carries a great risk not only to his life but to the city and its inhabitants as well. Flynn would not be here to tell his story to little Daphne if he had not succeeded; but how in the world did he manage to achieve such a perilous feat and live to tell the tale? Story inspired by the motion picture The Hurt Locker. SERIES: STAR TREK 2009 The Needs of the Many Needs of the Many was the first Star Trek fanfic to feature young Kirk, Spock, and McCoy debating the ethics of consequences in the Fable series. Featured in this work is a dialogue over the ending of Fable II. Spock, ever the logical one, is predisposed to choose the welfare of the many; though even his actions are only calculated to bring about the greatest good. Kirk, who seems inclined toward the individual, is predisposed toward fulfilling his own desires. But is the clash of philosophy that simple? Can this philosophical debate be reduced to the generous advocating on behalf of “the many” versus the selfish who advocate “the one”? Read on as you discover that each point of view is worth ruminating. The Needs of the Many II Needs of the Many II picks up the mantle of its predecessor; this time in a dialogue over the beginning portion of Fable III. Spock, ever the logical one, is predisposed to choose the welfare of the many; though even his actions are only calculated to bring about the greatest good. Kirk, who seems inclined toward the individual, is predisposed toward fulfilling his own desires. But Spock makes a move unexpected for a Vulcan. Could Spock be well on the way to acting like a human? SERIES: JUDY MOODY Crossover With: CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE Judy Moody and her Evening with Infinity Ward The first Judy Moody fanfic released on FanFiction, crossed with the Call of Duty series. Judy Moody and her brother Stink are thrilled exploring the Infinity Ward Museum in Encino, California. But when the pair explores the very same room that was featured in the very last level of Modern Warfare 2, affairs start to go awry as a single push of the information desk bell triggers a hostile encounter with characters of Modern Warfare 2 on exhibit display. Can Judy and Stink survive this deadly encounter and make it out alive? SERIES: THE BIBLE The Wedding at Cana – A Different Take Anyone schooled in the Bible at a basic level would have known about the wedding feast at Cana, and how Jesus performed His first public miracle through changing water into wine. But could all this have really happened that way? NOTE: THIS IS A PARODY! Hopefully, this is a parody in good taste; the humor is quite subtle. Works Outside of FanFiction September 12, 2011 - Commander Cody will now be divulging his new YouTube channel called DavyTheEntertainer. He has officially released a brand-new video lecture called "Why James Cameron's Avatar Is Not Anti-Military". Click the link to watch: Commander Cody's Updates: June 04, 2016 After a long time, I have decided to expunge "Felicity An American Girl Adventure Ending Parody" out of my collection of works. Aside from Grania's well-deserved scathing review over an unnecessary insult of the Shakespearean language, the reason for this deletion was its cringe-inducing property; after reading that fanfic again, I began cringing without end. There are just some parts that are too risque for the American Girl Fanfiction Archive, and frankly, many parts of the parody, I have to admit, were vulgar and crude, and done in poor taste. I am trying to build my reputation as a serious writer, even on this site, which means that I am setting high standards of writing for myself; and having that fanfic in my collection would only serve to undermine my reputation. April 04, 2017 For Star Trek TNG Souvenirs I have replaced Chapter 23 with an edited version that is supposed to be more in good taste. UPCOMING NEW FANFIC RELEASE! I have already finished my very first anime fanfiction based on a series titled Hyouka. The title of this fan work will be called the Hyouka Afterstory. Hyouka is a slice-of-life mystery anime series from Kyoto Animation. The anime is based on a novel, which you can find on Baka-Tsuki, if you are curious about reading all five volumes of the series, now completely translated. The anime version covers Volumes One to Four. Find out more on this series in MyAnimeList: ...And watch the anime on , if you have time! So far, there have been many romance fanfics with Houtarou and Eru, and Satoshi and Mayaka. This Hyouka fan work will be expansive, and this work will give what usually Hyouka fans desire: For Houtarou and Eru to be together, and for Satoshi and Mayaka to be finally together. However, much to my great disappointment, for some inexplicable reason, I am unable to upload any new story on this site I have noticed that new fanfic works keep coming, which means that somewhere, somehow, someone is able to upload new works. However, I cannot upload new works, not on this site, anyway. So far, I have looked on forums on how to get around this problem, but all these endeavours are to no avail. In the meantime, you can get access to the entire literary work, using this link: http:///works/7058461?view_full_work=true Until this site has the problem remedied, you will not be able to see the new "Hyouka Afterstory" here, but rather on my profile on Archive of our Own. Very Important Note: If you are unable to get access to the webpage through clicking the links, copy and paste the links to another tab on your Web browser. |
