![]() Author has written 14 stories for Newsies, Avatar: Last Airbender, Tangled, and Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm Pen n' Notebook. Over in the Newsies fandom I'm known as Repeat because music is large part of my life. I can never listen a song just once, I listen to it over and over. “You have to have an imagination and this character (Jack) had a wonderful imagination -- and I think that’s part of what is attractive about this film. Imagination can create reality and the newsies proved that. That if you can imagine something and then stand by it, you can make it happen.” -Kenny Ortega, Newsies director My Stories: Avatar: The Last Airbender: Invasion - AU. Zuko is raised by his mother as Lee in Ba Sing Se, unaware he's the Fire Prince. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation invaded. I just wanted to play with Zuko and life in the poorest part of the city. The story explores prejudice and classism, and because it's about Zuko, destiny. Instead of being on the front lines of the war, what if he was trapped in the middle of it? Multichapter. Outcasts - AU. Based on a tumblr prompt were the elements physically affect benders. Society fears them because they do not look human. More of a character study than a plot based story. Still, fun to write and imagine how each bender would look and behave. And Sokka is the best big brother in the world. Fullmetal Alchemist: Dream a Little Dream of Me - I fell HARD for Royai. One of my favorite aspects of their dynamic is their long history and deep emotional intimacy. So I explored both by letting them do one of the most intimate things people can do: fall asleep beside each other. Riza's discomfort at sharing a bed is inspired by the first time my husband and I shared a tiny bed: it was awful. Hayate waking Riza from a nightmare was inspired by my own pup waking me up one night by standing on my chest (an icicle falling off the roof scared him, the coward.) One day I'll finish the smutty version of the one time they DID sleep together. It will only be posted to AO3. Newsies: Hard Promises - Currently being rewritten! Modern day story inspired by the original script focusing on Jack moving past the death of his kid brother. He’s ready to forget, but no one will let him. A few years ago this was my first attempt at fan fiction, and was alright at the time, but now I'm a more mature writer. I feel that I didn't do the story justice the first time. The plot is fine, it needed to be fleshed out more. Specs - A background story on (you guessed it) Specs. A summer of watching Roundhouse, he found his way into my heart. Besides, background stories are always fun. It's not the stereotypical abandonment story with a horrible family and hateful parents. I wanted to show a real family's distress of being separated. Comparing Manhattan - Written for Jack week 09. Before the strike Spot compares his leadership and friendship with Jack Kelly. Character centered on both boys and stays cannon. The two are rivals more than friends. However, they are both in the same position: leaders of the most influential boroughs. The idea came after watching the docks scene. It was written for Jack, but takes an equal look at Spot. Ball Game Blunders - General stories are super fun and can show character depth. I always thought Blink's eye patch would handicap him, so I had a little fun and let the other newsies experiment on the issue. Remember, best friends can be more evil than our worst enemies. Without realizing it, I never answered whether Kid could or couldn't catch, so it's up for interpretation. Maybe in another circumstance he could have caught the ball, who knows? The Night Before Newsiemas - Or, the Night Before Christmas Newsies Style. The first verse literally struck me at midnight when I couldn't sleep and after that I knew I had to finish it. I tried not to stereotype the boys, but some of them may have fallen into loopholes. Every boy has his own verse because their individuality needed to be recognized. Pie Eater, Bumlets, Specs, and Dutchy's verse is combined because it is a shameless Roundhouse reference. (Yeah for those that noticed!) Skittery almost didn't have a verse because he was mentioned, though not by name in Tumbler's stanza. His was added last minute. A Matter of Importance - Honestly, I'm sick of predictable, badly written Mary Sues worming their way into the Newsies stories. This story is how I imagined a real rich girl Mary Sue would react to the world a newsie lives in. She would have nothing to do with someone so poor and looked down upon. Just for fun, this was published on 10-10-10. (This was written before Newsies on Broadway so the young lady is not Katherine. However, since Katherine is a rich girl Mary Sue it should have been her reaction. Besides, I believe this would be a more accurate encounter of Pulitzer's daughter meeting a newsie.) Pennies and Dimes - Another Specs story! I wanted to explore a friendship/non-romantic relationship a newsie might have with a female character. This story is also a great chance to explore life in New York and the adventure of selling newspapers. Sidewalk Snowman - Written for Stress for the NML Secret Santa Exchange. (I have finally gotten my story, the mystery has been solved! Pegasus M, thank you so much! Please write more!) Inspired by several feet of snow on the East Coast, and the snowman I built in my front yard. Newsies Christmas Carols - Written for Adren for the NML Secret Santa Story Exchange. The third Christmas story I've written for Newsies. All of the songs were written on Thanksgiving Day hours after watching the Broadway cast perform in the Macy's Parade. |
