I do, however, only really write fanfiction whenever I have an idea I can't really fit into an original novel or short story. I hardly ever read fanfiction any more because the lack of writers who actually obey the basic laws of written language. If I read and review your story, it means I've found one of those rare fanfiction authors who aren't ruining their "fandom" and write rather well. I'm a part time editor and part time novelist. "Hearts of Glass" will be published (in a rather different format) in Winter 2013. Thank you to all the readers who have supported me through this process. I will warn fans of the original that the edit has been going in a rather different direction: although the characters will be the same, many events and sub-plots have changed, as well as the story conforming to what is "normal" for drum corps instead of the fictional approach to practices. Laura, Thomas, Jon, and all the other characters are still going strong, though! This has been a long, stressful project and hopefully I can tell the full story of how many people have tried to keep this book from being published because of the unusual genre and the negative repercussions some drum corps leaders feel this story would leave on a reader. I'm a college student at a private four-year and am a Journalism major/Comm minor. I was formerly a music education major. I work at a television studio as a tech and operator. I no longer accept critique on anything I post on this site. This means: no flames, no rude reviews, and no criticism. My writing is regularly torn apart by my editors and professors and publisher, so when I actually find the time or motivation or energy to do fanfiction, I don't want to hear about how much it sucks or how much better you could have written something. I promise I will always have one or two typos in my stories, but I also promise to make an effort to write above and beyond the level of expectation for a typical ol' fanfiction piece. Now, if you're thinking, "Wow, kind of a snob, huh? No critique? She must not want to grow as a writer or just needs her ego stroked or something..." I want to say: meh. Like I said, I'm not going to take time to listen to some fourteen year old tell me how my writing isn't good or some troll rip apart something I wrote, so I am warning them not to waste their time, as well. If you haven't taken at least two college courses in writing, don't even bother. I grow as a writer in my classrooms and in my personal and professional projects: fanfiction is the after dinner mint on the food tray of literature. I don't write fanfiction for ego stroking, either, because if I really wanted some attention I wouldn't be looking for it on this website of all websites. I do appreciate all my readers, though, and that all being said, I do thank everyone who has left or will leave a kind review of some sort; it honors me that you have taken the time to read something I've written and, even though I can't get back to everyone, I do read everything and they do make me smile. Happy Reading! ~goldnote |
